In wilmington as we look at the home of the wilmington blue rocks, but its a much different story here here is a live look at washington, d. C. , where the snow is coming down in the nations capital. President s day is a federal holiday. The streets here in st. Mary county, maryland. See the snow there on the roads following a plow truck on its way to salt roads and a live look now at the radar shows where some of the heaviest snow is falling, and we could see some problems a little later on when the snow changes to sleet and then, of course, freezing rain. We have Live Team Coverage of this winter storm affecting our area. Lets begin with nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. This is an unusual type of storm that is developing here. First of all, the greatest amounts of snow are going to be in the southern portions of our area. We already have a few inches in some places, cape may from the marquee to lafayette. You can see the lens and the temperatures are below freezing and the snow is changing character a little bit and it is very wet snow. We have snow that will be moving through the area today and if its not snowing where we are now it will be as we go through the afternoon and it also will change over to sleet and freezing rain over a portion of the area, at least and everybody will see at least some heavy rain during the day on tuesday. As well, we have the first alert out through both days and the area getting hit the hardest and Sussex County, delaware and the southern point in our area and winter storm warning at 7 00 tonight and four to eight inches of snow and the rest of the area has Winter Weather advisories and most of the region until 10 00 tonight up toward the Lehigh Valley in poconos and less serious conditions and less snow accumulation and now the longer it takes for this to spread up to the north, the longer its going to take for the snow to change over to rain in the southern portions of our area and it is starting to spread to the north, as you can see coming up through New Castle County, delaware and into salem county, new jersey and well be getting into philadelphia within the next hour and its already starting to change over in Cape May County as you saw on the lens of the camera there and from washington, d. C. , southward, thats where theyre getting hit hard if you extrapolate that into southern delaware, thats where theyre going to be getting the greatest amounts of accumulation. The visibleit tells us how the snow is and we dont have anything from philadelphia northward, but even in wilmington, were starting to see some snow, getting heavier snow in dover and millville. Pretty heavy snow in Atlantic City right now and so parts of our area are already getting socked with this. The temperatures, of course, are going to be critical and theyre way below freezing even in southern portions of our area, so it will take a while for the warming to continue this is the 32 degree line in red as we go through the noon hour. So wherever it is north of that line it is sticking. In other parts of the area and southern parts it will start melting a little bit more and then here comes the rain. Theres 2 00. Theres 4 00 and it may be some of the heaviest snow in and around the philadelphia area and points to the north while theyre getting significant rain farther to the south and by 6 00, that 32degree line is already all of the way up to the Lehigh Valley. So you can see some big changes during the day. More on the hour by hour forecast and county by county in just a few minutes. Glenn, well see you then. Penndot is briefing the media right now. This is on walnut street between south 21st street and 22nd street. You cant see it falling there yet and we dont have volume or backup if youre headed to the schuylkill or 95.
