Well have more updates when i come back. Breaking news, police are one man in custody this morning after he allegedly hit two teenagers on their bike and drove away. Pamela osborne is on the scene. Reporter they took the driver away to get a blood alcohol test this morning. I want to let you know, i just got off the phone with police a couple of minutes ago. One teen is still in very bad shape. Now heres what we know. This all happen around 2 00 this morning. Two teens were riding on one bicycle with a group of their friends when they were hit. Police say there were a total of five teens on four bikes. They were riding south in the northbound lanes of broad when a red lexus came speeding down the street. The force of the impact was so severe that the front wheel of the bike was knocked off, went airborne and landed half a block away. The teens were also thrown if from the bike. One suffered a broken leg with, the second in very Critical Condition still at the time after suffering severe trauma. Witnesses were able to give police a zrings of the vehicle, a red lexus with the black rims. They were able to see a man driving and a woman was also in the car. Officers caught up with them a short time later. Police tell us witnesses the car, a red lexus also had some frontd damage on the front of it, pieces of the car were recover from the scene as well. The driver was taken away if you hit a person, you have to stop and render aid. People have to understand if you hit somebody whether you hurt them read bad or there are minor injuries, if you stp and render aid, its just an auto accident. But in this situation its a good chance that the person left the scene because when we found him, he appeared to be intoxicated. Reporter police are interviewing the female passenger as a witness in all of this. The driver facing serious charges. If youre heading out and about, youre going to want to avoid this area. Accident investigation is still on the scene here trying to reconstruct and lay out exactly what happened when those teens were hit this morning. The agency got a tip on its cruelty hotline and served warrants on two apartments in front further. Now workers removed a total of 33 cats from those two apartments. A couple of them were found dead. Conditions on the first floor are what i would describe as filthy, you know, feces, urine, bugs throughout. The owners willingly surrendered the animals. The cats were taken to a shelter for evaluation and will hopefully be adopted. Newcastle countys only state campground is sporting a new look. Yesterday the campers got their first look at the upgads and addition. The improvements include hookups for water were sewer and electricity, a new bath house and several walkin tent sites.
