This morning we continue to track theoc flooding and rip current threat that hermine poses to our area. That includes the jersey shore. Nbc 10s Pamela Osborne live in ocean city this morning. Pamela, you were down the shore yesterday as well. We know the surf will be very rough again today. It is going to be very rough, rosema rosemary. We also know there is a ban in effect for swimming on the beaches they put this into effect when hermine was on her way here. That has not changed. Its going to be in effect through today because of the dangerous conditions on the water. Were talking about high and dangerous surf, high risk of rip currents through labor day, perhaps into tomorrow. Were talking about sustained winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour. Gusts of up to 45. Officials here in Cape May County are monitoring high tide this morning and low tide this evening for any potential for coastal flooding. Now, here this morning in ocean city, we saw a truck going by just kind of leveling out the sand here on the beach a little bit earlier today. Again, dont be deceived as we were saying all day yesterday, as bill said, it will be a Beautiful Day at the shore. Keep in mind the conditions in the water are dangerous, while some of the beaches elsewhere are open. Its your best bet not to get inside, because these waters will be difficult to navigate. Tim, we know that similar conditions to the jersey shore, windy and of course you have to deal with the rough waves. Yes, its breezy right now. My pants are doing the parachuting pant thing here. We were here on friday when they took the trash can lids, moved some of the lifeguard chairs back from the ocean. This is breeze were talking about. Not horrible but any stretch but windy down here. Its hard to see at this time of the morning, you can see where the waves are breaking. It doesnt look that rough. It really isnt that rough right now. On a normal day in rehoboth, the beach goes out about another 20 feet and drops down really low. What happens is the water is very hey. Heres the good news for rehoboth. Rehoboth sits higher than some of the other towns. You go up the road in lewes, you have low spots down by the beach, the cape henlopen. Dewey, the inland bay sometimes meets up. They meet up with the ocean and you have a breach like we had dlu during the blizzard in january. There are going to be swimming concerns today. Well talk more about that in the next half hour. Swimming concerns and other concerns and certainly Business Owners want you to come back to the beach. If you didnt come down because you thought the storm is worse than it was, theyre hoping to squeeze out a good last day of the summer season. Governor Chris Christie made that announcement yesterday. He said park visitors should be very mindful of rip currents and rough surf but should go out and enjoy the day. The park will open at 9 00 this morning. In new york city, the mayor says nobody will be allowed to swim or surf at city beaches today because of those dangerous rip currents. And new from overnight, a man dies after being stabbed to death in west philadelphia. The stabbing happened just after 1 00 this morning on belmont and westminster avenues. Police are looking for a gunman in a double shooting in north philadelphia overnight. Nbc 10 was on the scene in north chadwick street around 4 00 a. M. A man is in Critical Condition at Temple University hospital. He was shot in the head. Police in ocean conte are looking for a trio of thieves who held up a rite aid stealing prescription drugs. These three men stormed into the pharmacy in brick township last night. One of the armed american acted as a lookout at the front of the store while the other two jumped over the pharmacy counter and demanded several types of prescription drugs. Witnesses told police the suspects may have gotten away in a small black or blue toyota or mazza suv. In the Lehigh Valley professor who was denied tenure is ending his eating strike today. High risk of rip currents, that will continue in rough waters. The winds gusting to near 25 miles an hour this afternoon. The wind speed forecast way down with hermine further offshore. Minor flooding, yes, moderate flooding well be watching to are that. High tide is late this morning at the jersey shore. Thats the greatest threat for seeing flooding at the shore. Then again late tonight we could possibly see that. But 70 mileanhour winds with hermine is expected to weaken. It will be moving to the west. In the next few hours, expected to take a turn. The heaviest rainfall, i believe, will stay offshore. Were not completely out of the woods with a shower possible at the shore later today but its looking much less likely. Inland will be dry and sunny, too. 6 mileanhour wind right now in cape may is forecast today to be elevated to 17 miles an hour. Gusts as high as 25 miles an hour this afternoon. A fastmoving wildfire is forcing dozens of people to evacuate their homes near the colorado wyoming border. The starwood fire has grown to 300 acres near the town of red feather lakes.
