Police got on the scene, cleared it out of the way. Now we have residual delays there. Now that were moving into rush hour, i dont see it clearing out of the way anytime soon. Because of the weather, some schools are dismissing classes early. Matt delucia is live in the philadelphia neighborhood of tacony where a charter still will let out at noon. Good morning, matt. Good morning, vai. Its warm and muggy already. Only going to get worse as we get throughout the day. Several schools are closing early because of the heat. The problem is you have a lot of schools in the area that have older buildings and they dont have air conditioning. Those rooms can get very hot. The safety issue is in play here. As bill said, the temperatures are expected to get into the 90s again. We could have a heat wave and the feelslike temperature could be hotter than that. Hot weather comes just as many schools are opening up this week. That includes philadelphia schools which started yesterday. Right now philadelphia schools are scheduled for a regular, normal day. We have been reaching out to them to see if thats going to change. As of right now it is still on schedule for a regular day. But lets get to the list of schools that are closing early. The list right here, Trenton Public Schools and Trenton Catholic academy. Closing early today. Hamilton township schools in new jersey, they are having an early dismissal as well. The Keystone Academy Charter School, thats where we are right now here in philadelphia, also closing early. Philadelphia schools as we mentioned still operate on a normal schedule right now. You have all these schools that are starring this week and you have kids going into the classrooms, a lot of the schools are updated, theyre modern, they have air condition. Those that do not, thats where you have to be worried. Right now its not too bad. Warm and muggy. As those temperatures rise, that situation could change rapidly. Now live in the tacony section of philadelphia, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. 6 03. A Philadelphia Traffic Court judge acquitted in a ticket fixing scandal faces a new legal challenge. Federal prosecutors charged Michael Sullivan in a Tax Evasion Case involving a restaurant he own. If convicted he could get up to a year in jail. He and five colleagues were charged in a ticket fixing scheme. Four of the junes were convicted of lying to authorities. Sullivan was not one of them. First criminal charges, now theres a push to suspend the law license of Pennsylvania Attorney general kathleen ckan. The states Attorney Ethics Office is calling for the state Supreme Court to suspend kanes law license, arguing a conflict of interest. Kane faces charges for allegedly leaking information from a grand jury probe and lying under oath. We have reached out to kane for comment. Shes not responded to our latest attempts. She has denied wrong doing in the past. A man who helped homeless addicts in camden get drug treatment is accused of running an operation that sold heroin and crack cocaine. Harold miller was a Program Coordinator at josephs house, a homeless shelter. He was charged with drug conspiracy in a federal indictment last week. The shelters director says miller no longer works there. Happening today, the murder case against a woman accused of kidnapping and enslaving mentally disabled people in philadelphias tacony neighborhood will be in court. A federal Court Spokesperson told us that linda weston will be appearing here in federal court in just a couple of hours for whats being called a change of plea hearing. Weston pleaded not guilty last year to kidnapping mentally disabled adults and holding them while stealing Social Security and other government benefit checks. You may recall the shocking discovery of four adults found chained inside the basement of a tacony Apartment Building in 2011. The conditions were atrocious. Some were attached to a boiler pipe. During the investigation, it was revealed weston and her codefendant allegedly moved those adults to texas, virginia and florida wrenn she thought authority were on to her. The victims told police they were also beaten. One had children while being held captive. Weston was also charged with murder and discussions are under way in several states, including the u. S. Attorneys office regarding the federal death penalty, seeking that in a statute. Well let you no he what happens when she appears in federal court today. And this morning, were learning more about the taxi cab crash that killed two people that came to philadelphia for the made in america festival. Police say the cab driver likely had a green light. This all happened early monday morning in center city. Witnesses say the driver hit the couple as they were crossing broad street at arch. Theyre trying to confirm how fast the driver was again at the time of the crash. Amanda digirolomo died as well as her friend. The company ceo di, united ceo resigned. The feds are looking into whether the airline tried to influence the Port Authority of new york and new jersey by creating a special flight between newark and an airplane near the South Carolina home of david sampson. Thats when they say louis vogwell hit and killed officer poole and then took f÷k4jy a tow truck driver followed him and boxed him in until police got there. Hes now charged with murder. Happening today, Athletic League officials in texas are set to meet and investigate the two actions the actions rather of two High School Football players accused of assaulting a referee during a game that happened last week. Two students from John Jay High School in san antonio tackled the ref during a play at the end of last weeks game. The school suspended the students from the team and placed an assistant coach linked to the incident on administrative leave. The players allege racial slurs were directed at them by the umpire. The students allege that an assistant coach said, that guy needs to pay for cheating us. School officials call the incident shameful but said the football season will not be canceled. We expect to hear more today about a tentative settlement that would pay the parents of freddie gray 6. 4 million. The city of baltimore says it has agreed to pay that amount to settle all claims surrounding his death. He died from a spinal cord injury suffered in Police Custody in april. His death led to the arrest of six officers. The city board that oversees spending has to approve the settlement and it meets today. Macys will close up to 40 stores early next year because of slow sales. They did not specify which stores will close. If youre in this righthand lane, heading towards 30th street station, that might be what this traffic is from. We still have a threeminute drive time in total from 95 up towards that point. The eastbound lanes doing just fine heading towards 95. We did have an earlier accident scene on the southbound side. It is cleared and out of the way. You can see that line of showers just to the west due in tomorrow afternoon with heavier rainfall. Today, the clouds will be thinning out, hot and humid. Scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and back into the 90s today. But well be nowhere near the 90s, thanks to the rain. We need the rain. The kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to samesex couples gets a heros welcome after being released from jail. Shes making it clear that her fight against samesex marriage is far from over. An a Delaware County family trying to help two stray dogs has their family pet mauled to death. A Montgomery County man was trapped for hours after his car plunged off an embankment in lower merion township on monday. This was the scene at grays lane and millcreek road. The driver says he lost control and went off the road and through a dense patch of trees and into trout creek. That happened nine hours before a Police Officer unknowingly approached the scene. He was greeted by the victims cries for help. He lost his car in there at 7 00 p. M. And nobody saw him until that Police Officer heard him. If that Police Officer wasnt coming by, im sure he could have been in there for another day until somebody saw him. Rescue crews are calling this a miracle since the victim was trapped inside the car out of plain sight from the road above it. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
