About midnight tonight, and through noon well be under a first alert for those passing snowshowers to move on through. Where . Specifically new jersey and delaware, although it looks like the snow line extension could clip right around philadelphia and total one to three inches. Thats the highest were looking at. This morning a white house Senior Adviser and the department of Homeland Security say despite a federal judges stay, President Trumps travel ban on people from several muslim majority countries remains in force. The adviser says nothing, quote, in any way impedes or prevents the president s executive order which remains in full, complete and total effect. The judges decision to put President Trumps executive order on hold last night sparked cheers from protesters across the country. Dozens of overseas passengers arrived yesterday only to learn they had to immediately fly back to their war torn countries. Others were detained. The aclu took the travel ban to court yesterday. Last night the judge in new york granted a National Stay allowing airport detainees with visas to stay in the u. S. And not be deported. This is where passengers come when theyre coming in to the u. S. Were expecting a flight from qatar in less than an hour. We also know at least five people detained here yesterday are expected to be released today. I checked, though, this morning with the aclu and still no word on exactly when that will happen. We do know those people are among 109 people detained across the country when coming into the u. S. In the first 23 hours this kpkive order was in place. It was designed as a National Security measure, it has created confusion and even anger and frustration at airports across the country. Let me show you the scene here last night at Philadelphia International airport as protesters showed up with signs. They were opposing the president s executive order and also demanding the release of the passengers here. Now, as this was happening, work behind the scenes by attorneys and lawmakers, local and federal elected officials got involved with this trying to sort it out and get those passengers who had been detained entry into the u. Sch u. U. S. , including congressman bob grady. Here is what he had to say. These people here had visas, very vetted for six months, ready to get their green cards, in flight over and all of a sudden with the order theyve got to go back. Theyre the wrong people. They are the christians were talking about that trump says he wants to help and now theyre on their way back. Reporter as he was talking there, you could hear the crowd behind him and the protesters. We are expecting more protesters to come back this afternoon. Weve been told about 2 00, and the group involved with that vary. In the Lehigh Valley ps, the stay could bring new hope to a family of immigrants. The assali family in allentown has waited 14 years to greet relatives from qatar. The family says customs agents deand the their relatives yesterday before sending them back home to the middle east. It had been approved. For overnight all that to be taken away while theyre in flight, thats just frustrating. He says he wants to protect those who are being persecuted, but hes really sending them back to danger and war. The Trump Administration was called to suspend enforcement of the travel ban from those predominantly muslim countries. Nbc 10 spoke with the assali family after trump halted the ban. They told us theyre trying to get in touch with relatives so they can come back to the United States. Philadelphia mayor jim kenney says hes sickened over families being turned away. He said, quote, the Trump Administration may have given these families a death sentence. Thats not the only local response. Philadelphia congressman dwight evans tweeted, eight days in office and potus executive orders arent just unfathomable but unconstitutional, right vp . Muslimban. So far theres no direct response from President Trump to the stay of his travel ban. Yesterday reporters at the white house asked the president about his executive order and whether its a ban on muslims. Not a muslim ban, but its working out very nicely. An adult woman and her 10yearold sister were hit by a car at the boulevard and large street just before midnight. The driver of the vehicle that hit the two victims was taken into custody. As you know, this is an emotionally charged issue. There are still ten people who remain detained here at jfk. Lets give you a live look at what the airport looks like right now. At one point, hundreds upon hundreds of protesters gathered here. Lets take a look at this video. The protesters numbered in the hundreds here, gathered outside every level of the local parking garage here. There were cheers in brooklyn when the aclu, working on emergency stay, got that court order from a federal judge saying that the people who are detained here at Kennedy Airport, they will not be deported. However, that court order doesnt mean that they will be released. Ten people remain here. There were two people who were released a little earlier in the day yesterday. It was quite a scene here with hundreds of people, also taxi drivers refusing to work for several hours. There are Immigration Attorneys working with the people who remain detained here. We are hearing there will be another protest scheduled for this afternoon. Again, as far as what Kennedy Airport looks like right now, its still a normal day, but there are hundreds of protesters expected to be gathering here a little later this afternoon and then again ten people remain detained here. At the jersey shore a judge dismissed charges against a teenager involved in a deadly crash with a new Jersey Transit bus three years ago. Melissa rodriguez was 18 when it happened. She was driving five friends when she crossed into on coming traffic and hit the bus in pleasantville. Three of her friends were killed. Authorities say she was using a cell phone when she crashed. You can see areas like somerton have dropped into the upper 20s. Its a cold start out there. You want to layer up with at least a few layers. You can peel maybe one off as you get into the afternoon. Overall today, a chilly forecast. Radar and satellite, thicker cloud cover into the northern edge. Further south, a nice mix of clouds and sunday. Looking sunny over parts of philadelphia. Its mostly dry right now. Thats going to be the case today. We dont expect a lot in terms of snow in the forecast, that is, until tomorrow. That will drive by to the south of us which will push that potential into our neighborhoods. By the noon hour were left with scattered cloud coverage. Monday morning, were looking at one to three inches possible along the jersey shore and sussex county. About one pinch most likely as we go through south jersey and one to about half an inch through philadelphia. Parts of Delaware County and chester county. Surveillance video shows a white minivan fleeing the seen. It hit Catherine Brown and dragged her down 57th street and around the corner. Just before the crash, she tossed her 3yearold grandson out of the vans path. Her soninlaw says she would do anything for her family. If she wasnt working, she was with her grandkids. Thats it. Thats her life. The family says this has been very tough on the grandkids. The crash happened as they were leaving a birthday party, and the Young Children witnessed the entire tragedy. The fight to keep the Affordable Care act spread to a local congressmans office. Dozens of obamacare supporters were outside congressman patrick Meehans Office in springfield yesterday and held signs and rallies to try to convince the republican congressman to oppose the repeal of the Affordable Care act. People we spoke with say the lack of an alternative plan to the aca is one of the biggest issues at play. We need this health care, we need this in this country. Health care needs to be fixed. They dont have a plan, and he knows it. The aca is crucial to all of us. Its a matter of life and death and health. Congressman Meehans Office released a statement saying parts of the Current Health law need to be repealed and replaced with reforms that make care more affordable and more accessible. House Speaker Paul Ryan says the goal for republicans is for universal access to health care. The phrase suggests a more modest number of people would be covered than President Trumps insurance for everybody. Speaker ryan says people should have the ability to buy Affordable Health care, but the government should not make people do something.
