People are wondering, do the bad guys have access to this information . Well have more on this in a moment. Were going to start with politics. Formal debate over the new Health Care Reform bill against underway on capitol hill this morning. It is facing strong opposition, not just from democrats but also a number of republicans, as well. Well cover all of it. Well start with nbcs Hallie Jackson at the white house. Good morning. Good morning to you. Today, the president will meet with conservative leaders here to talk about health care with the white house, emphasizing, this is really the start of a process to figure out whats in and whats out of that new bill. On capitol hill, lawmakers today will start making changes. But for the gop, its far from a united front. Reporter this morning, republican rebellion. With the white house working to avoid what might be a mutiny brewing against a new bill to repeal and replace obamacare. Were going to have something thats going to be much more understood and much more popular than people can even imagine. Reporter so far, it is not popular with some in his own party. Conservatives concerned about different parts of the plan. Those on the far right, including outside groups, worried about it costing too much and not going far enough. This is, instead, a step in the wrong direction. Obviously, we have serious concerns. We are united on repeal, but we are divided on replacement. Reporter more moderate republicans are focusing on saving medicaid expansion. For others, saving planned parenthood funding might end up a Sticking Point. The administration reassuring everyone, this is still a work in progress. A starting point, as Vice President pence explained to nbcs kcasey hunt. Were early in the process. Reporter the white house is still facing fallout from President Trumps explosive tweet, accusing president obama of ordering the wiretapping of trump tower. Have you seen evidence of that . No, i havent. I have not seen that evidence. Reporter the white house still providing no proof of his claim. But press Secretary Sean Spicer pointing to the need for a congressional investigation. Why would the president Want Congress to investigate for information he already has . I think there is a separation of powers aspect here. As i mentioned to jonathan. You talk about resources and time. Why waste it . It is a question of appropriateness. Reporter Committee Chairman nunez defending the president. The president has been doing this a little over a year. I think a lot of the things he says, you guys sometimes take literally. Congressman nunez is also announcing the first public hearing of his house intelligence committee. Former intelligence officials under president obama have been invited to testimony on march 20th. And so has former acting attorney general sally yates who, if you remember, was fired by President Trump not long after he took office. Hallie jackson, thanks. If the new Health Care Plan is enacted, how would it affect your costs . Nbc news chief Business Correspondent has been looking at the numbers for us and focusing on three groups that could see big changes. Ali, good morning. Good to see you, willie. Lets start with the first scenario. A 45yearold woman who perhaps has diabetes. Diabetes, 9. 3 of the population has it. Good example. Shell have guaranteed kovrcove. You cant lose coverage if youve already got it. Premiums cant go up for a preexisting condition. But this is how Insurance Companies get around premiums. More out of pocket expenses. All americans have seen that. And increase in the amount youre going to spend on your health care. So for people who will already sick, costs likely to go up. Lets move to the next board. Were looking at the poor medica medicaid. 55yearold in some financial distress. Perhaps relying on medicaid. Under obamacare, this woman would have had subsidies to pay for health care. On medicaid, you dont have to worry about it. At this point, they can stay on medicaid. They may be eligible for tax credits. However, on january 1st, 2020, the grants from the federal government to the states that have medicaid are going to change. Theyre going to become block grants, and theyre going to be stuck at 2016 levels. The states may slash the benefits you get if youre on medicaid. Also for those who are poor but not on medicaid, if you let your coverage lapse because you dont have the money to pay for it, when you go back to get it, youll pay a 30 penalty on top of the premium. This is to encourage people to keep on buying insurance, even when they think they dont need it. The medicaid revision, a Sticking Point even for republican senators. Thats right. The last group. Older americans perhaps on a budget. This is before you get into medicare. Lets say youre 60 years old. The credit in exchange for the subsidies under obamacare, the maximum credit youll get if youre 60 years old is 4,000. You cannot get a proper policy for 4,000. You might be able to get a catastrophic policy, meaning if something very bad happens, youll be covered. Thats a problem for older americans. The premiums are likely to get up. As i said, the only coverage youll get is the basic coverage. If the worst thing happens. If youre older and want insurance to pay for your normal, ongoing medical care, thats going to be youre going to be out of pocket a lot of money. Young adults up to 26, people with preexisting conditions, still protected. They get to stay on their parents. Again, this is initial stages. A lot of this may change. Always good to talk to you. Thank you. Thank you. Now to the story we talked about at the top. The explosive new document dump from wikileaks. It is hitting close to home for millions of americans. This claims to reveal how the cia hacks phones, televisions and other devices, not in the u. S. But all over the world. Peter alexander has the latest. Good morning. Good morning to you. Wikileaks released thousands of documents that it claims shows how the cia could crack open devices by apple, samsung, microsoft and google. The documents potentially reveal the agencys secretive hacking techniques to try to penetrate the systems around the world. Reporter this morning, growing fallout over the wikileaks document dump, what it claims to be the most sweeping collection of u. S. Spying documents ever. It is a very, very, serious issue, and congress has got to pay more attention to it. Reporter wikileaks posting 9,000 pages of documents that it claims comes from the cias hacking arsenal. Nbc news hasnt authenticated the documents and the cia didnt commenting. Among the documents, secret techniques that show vulnerabilities in tvs and smartphones to spy on their owners. It exposes Software Tools to break into any iphone and android, and bypass whats app. Weeping angel repealing how to pick up on conversations on internet connected samsung tvs when they appear to be cut off. After the Company Issued a clarificatio clarification, saying the sets do not monitor conversations. But they do collect voice commands. When a user pushes a button to make a search request. Many of the nations top tech companies, including google and microsoft, say theyre investigating the documents. The spy tools, experts say, would have been used for Foreign Surveillance but now could be used by cyber criminals to target americans. When you see something that is billed as internet connected, a car, a home, a light switch, whatever, just remember that that also potentially means hacker connected. This is the ultimate Swiss Army Knife of hacker tools. Anyone can now take a tool, decide what to attack and they can turn anybodys Electronic Devices into surveillance devices. Reporter wikileaks isnt reveals its source, but it says documents had been circulated among former u. S. Government hackers and contractors. Claiming one of them passed the documents to wikileaks. The release also puts President Trump in an unusual position. After attacking the intelligence community. And during the campaign, praising wikileaks. Wikileaks, i love wikileaks. Reporter the white house declined to comment. Late tuesday, apple said it had addressed many of the issues described in the documents. It posted a statement that read in part, while our initial analysis indicates that many of the issues leaked today were patched in the latest operating system, we will continue to work rapidly to address any identified vulnerabilities. What theyre doing right now is urging people to make sure that you download the latest operating system to make sure you have the most updated security updates available. Peter alexander, thank you.
