Welcome back Dr Simeon Hein is the director of the Institute for residence in Boulder Colorado beautiful place the institute is devoted to the study of subtle energy sciences including remote viewing crop circles and related subjects Dr Hein has a Ph d. In sociology previously taught research methodology at Washington State University and is familiar with many of the kind of topics that we discuss here on this program often his new book is called wax on ghosts we're going to find out what that is in just a moment Dr Hein Welcome back to the program. That's a lot church Thanks for having me tonight you know you have something in the beginning of a book I had to go back to it after I read it in which you say you know this at one point in my life this topic seemed like something you'd be interested in as a teenager then grow out of as you grew up and became wiser and you say it's not something I was looking for after I read the book I went back to that page and I thought to myself well maybe you had meant looking for it but it seems to have been looking for you. Yeah isn't that right I mean isn't that true for a lot of us the listeners the show people who get involved in this topic it's. What you're pointing out is something that's really interesting is that the way we're trained from our schooling and our perspective you know as being part of western society is to kind of keep pushing this sort of phenomenal way and you sort of think you can get away with that for awhile right I mean you hear about stories like this and you go to conferences and hear about people strange experiences strange quote unquote and think it's not me you know it's someone else but it kind of keeps showing up again and again and eventually you realize you need to address this you know seriously need to take Are there others in your field that that study these kinds of topics I would think it be. A rich vein to mine even if even for those well maybe especially for those who think it's all nonsense. No sadly there are very few academics that study this I think you know Richard Dolan point this out quite a while ago in his books about the u.f.o. Subject is that you know he came out of political science and there are very few people that actually look at this it's really surprising because he think I know and sociology is also Ron Lester I'm. Done working on this but it's actually kind of weird because I think academics are really afraid of what their peers are going to think of them it's really. A real tragedy in the sense that they want to get promoted they're thinking about tenure you know you're going to get reviewed by your peers the last thing you want to do is see a pint of strange to them that you're doing something really off the wall it's really the opposite of what science is supposed to be you know people that were you know eccentric and Ok in that way and now people are really kind of very conformist . It would seem to me though they could at least make fun of it you know do a sociological study of u.f.o. Eyewitnesses or something to declare them crazy or to explain it away in some other academic way. Yet though they won't because they want to touch it it's like the 3rd rail you know like Stephen Bassett said this is the 3rd rail if you touch it you get like shot that destroys your career and people are just have been avoiding this subject I mean I don't think they can get away with it much longer I honestly don't think so but it's been something that people have been able to avoid and academia I just so surprised you to. It's kind of what you said it really think people would want to go after the subject some much there you know just and in doing Black Swan Ghost and all the witnesses I encountered I wasn't looking for them but they kind of showed up and I realized they were so credible and so truthful. There are a lot of people out there like that and it's really a rich area but people a lot of professionals want to you know play it said let me talk about you a little bit and then we'll get into the title of what it means as a way of looking as a frame of reference for these kind of events you had an experience as a youngster that's sort of what I meant where as this phenomena are this area sort of came looking for you Do you think the seeds were planted at that instance for what you would do later in life and can you share with us that that the incident if you haven't talked about it before on the program. No actually I have never talked about it before on the program and it's something it's very interesting you sort of forget about these incidents but what you're saying is something that my mom actually suggested we were in the Everglades when I was a teenager my mom was a bird watcher and we were just walking around looking for birds as you do and all of a sudden I saw something that I thought was the moon but it looked way too green and it was in the wrong position for where the moon should be and I said to her Hey look at the moon it looks really weird and she said the moons over there is a totally different direction of the sky and we both look back and realize all the Moon was over there what was this thing it kind of looked like a green cloud it really wasn't very structured but we both had by not yours so we planned our Brainiac with binoculars and there was in the parent Lee a green cloud with a structured series of dots in straight lines that form to be like a big sea in the sky and as soon as we started to look at it it moved rather quickly into a cloud and disappeared and then shortly thereafter all the lights went out and there was a blackout in that whole area we went to a Ranger talk as you often do in a national park at least we did back then and we sat next to keep a little also seen it but then when we went and told the ranger about it after the talk she said Oh sure you know tell me more like she didn't even want to hear it and my mom often thought that that was some sort of alien craft I'm not making this up she said the through many times that something did something to us and got me interested in the topic and and who knows you know a couple you know why was I might have thought that was a funny idea but not anymore I mean did you become obsessed with your posts to collect all the books that you go to all the conferences as a result of that and tell her just kind of sat there. You know I really didn't come to sat there I came across the mosque and prophecies you know John Keel by accident ended up going you know to college studying history and science and things like that history of science then came across Timothy Good's book was top secret in the late 1980 s. In a bookstore and Amherst Massachusetts and I really hadn't read much apart from John Keeler or Timothy good and they're kind of set until I actually went to graduate school and they completely forgot about the topic I mean believe it or not it was until I came across remote viewing with you know Dr Gordon Brown the farce that it's too and I just I just thought I had to see what this is about and it all kind of came back and I counted more witnesses and the kind of opened it up again but there were long for it's my life where I didn't really have any active interest in the subject really passing interest and so remote viewing is your path back into paranormal and I'm using air quotes around that word you heard a radio show in 1906 talking about remote viewing and they you jumped in with both feet. Well sort of I mean I heard Courtney talking about it on my local radio station Katie and you here in Boulder Colorado and I mean I had just come out of graduate school I've been teaching to sticks and you know that type of training makes you very skeptical and very critical of anything I mean you're really looking for facts and things that can be verified and there's a part of me that did not find it legal another part of me thought this is interesting so I thought just go and check it out and it's either going to work or it's not going to work but there was certainly a large part of my mind that did not think that the average person could do remote viewing I mean absolutely I just thought you have to be special one of these natural psychics you know you've seen on t.v. Police trying shows and things like that I didn't think I could do it but charge I turned I was wrong I could do it and every one of the class got some results after about a week I wasn't sure I wanted it to work but it worked there's no doubt about it it worked you remember what the 1st test for you that worked the 1st. Result that was confirmed. Yeah you know when you do remote viewing in the beginning you have these kind of training verifiable targets you're not looking at stuff really far far out and stuff that you can't verify it's just basic structures you know mountains in from Italy or landmarks on the planet and so forth and Courtney had given us a picture of Canton Mexico and I remember you know that it's a blind target the targets hidden in a folder and you're sitting in a cubicle you can't see what it is and the monitors not telling you anything about it apart from giving you cues to just kind of keep you did get writing and I just started describing the scene I could hear people speaking Spanish in the hotel and I have pictures and look at Cove and I thought you know I'm making this although there's no way this has anything to do with the target this is like day 2 or 3 right a lot of people who take a remote viewing class are going to have experience and all of a sudden you know sessions over time for your feedback and there was this picture of Cantu Mexico which I had drawn perfectly on the page and it's called Phase 3 and everything it was 100 percent accurate and I was really shocked I mean because George you don't know how you do it I mean you you write this the information down in a remote viewing session but you don't know how you got that information it was really quite shocking to see that accurate it certainly wasn't what I expected that there was at work and you're saying pretty much everyone had had the ability to one degree or another in this class Yeah and even the most skeptical people at one point or another would get the best results within one of the targets that it's amazing to see that kind of transformation come over someone. You know who's very skeptical I member you know help put off an awful charge would talk about having skeptics come to Sri and they would inevitably become very good viewers it really transformed you in in just a week it was quite remarkable and it certainly wasn't something that I expected that there was and everyone. To some degree would get some very accurate results which were way beyond what you'd expect by chance so it showed me that there
