And as we are learning tonight, these undercover operations can go wrong very quickly. Reporter still blocked off as investigators work into the night to figure out how this Undercover Police operation went so terribly wrong. Reporter bullet holes through this black car, a huge presence of police, and a quiet neighborhood shattered. Police say this was all part of an undercover buy of illegal guns of an undercover officer was contacted by the suspect earlier today to buy a gun in the bronx. The suspect instructed him to drive here to westchester county, where a second suspect got into the car. There was some discussion. And a gun was put to our undercovers head. Reporter police say the two suspects tried to rob the officer. Thats when the officer signalled to his backup team who opened fire on the suspects. But the bullets also hit an innocent man. A 63yearold man who was standing behind the suspects was also struck by at least two rounds. Reporter the bystander is now in serious condition. The suspect who police say pointed the gun at the officer was shot and is in stable condition. The gun the suspect used was not real. This is a picture police just released of it.
