Milwaukee second and fifth graders come here as part of an educational field trip. They learn about what to do in case theres a fire in their home. This morning 21 second graders from Franklin Pierce elementary went through a simulation. The mock home filled with smoke and it was up to the children to figure out how to get out safely. That could mean climbing out of window. And then of course calling 911. And its a field trip that can one day be life saving. Like anything in life, sports figures they practice, or ballet or dance or whatever, have to practice. So when it comes to a time of an emergency, having that frame of reference to go back to and say we practices i know what to do thats a valuable for the children. Away. 35yearold jerry hub confrontation with police and just learned his sentence today. Today. Cbs 58s amanda devoe joins us live with hsi sentence. Amanda. Bill, Michele Hubbard was sentenced to 37 years behind bars. It was very tense as the families of both the defendant and the victim spoke before the judge in todays sentencing. Jerry hubbard showed no emotion as the judge handed down the sentence. Back in january hubbard killed his johnson. As they were breaking up. Officials say hubbard suffocated her, and then threw her over their apartment balcony. He then attempted to run away from officers as they tried to subdue him, and stabbed a supervisor with a knife. He was shot by police but survived. Hubbard maintains he acted in defense but wouldnt say what he suffocated her with. The judge made the court sit in silence for two minutes before handing down his ruling, the amount of time medical johnson suffered before she died.
