New nontravel related zika virus case, one confirmed locally in our area. Governor rick scott just wrapped up a round table discussion with leaders in clearwater. And theres big concern about how to fight the virus before it spreads even more. Jamel lanee is live from clearwater right now and what is the governor saying about this local pinellas case . Reporter good afternoon, gene, stacie, like five new nontravel related cases here. Four of those in Miamidade County and one right here in pinellas county. Theyre saying right now is that they are working with that person who tested positive to see where that person may have caught the virus. The room was filled with members from the Florida Department of health, pinellas county, floridas Surgeon General, state officials and doctors and Mosquito Control. Governor scott says the total is now at 42. Floridas Surgeon General said the case here was someone who recently tested. She also said that theres no ongoing transmission where that person recently traveled. And Governor Scott reiterating the Health Department and Mosquito Control are closely monitoring the situation. Just because we have one case here doesnt mean we have local transmission. The next step is the department of Mosquito Control effort, theyll start doing aggressive Mosquito Control and aggressive testing to find out if they have local transmission. Reporter again, theyll monitor the situation. This he wanted to make sure people know that there is free clinical testing at several sites here in pinellas county.
