The bus. 20 kids were on the bus at the time of the crash. Heading to kathleen high school. Three students and the driver of the truck were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries. In sarasota overnight shooting leaves one person dead. Abc action news anchor james tully is live at the scene. Hes been there all morning. What is the Sheriffs Office saying about the suspect so far . Reporter they have not named suspects yet. Detectives have been here since 3 00 this morning ta no threat to them at this time. Again everyone involved in this shooting they say all the parties involved are accounted for but again no suspects named. No arrests yet. This home here is on the 1,800 block of rita street in sarasota. Its an area that deputies say isnt a common place for drug or Gang Activity but still they are not ruling that out at this hour. One neighbor tells me he heard about six gunshots after 2 00 in the morning. Then heard yelling at each nearly 40 years says hes hardly ever seen anyone from the Sheriffs Office around this neighborhood. Its kind of weird that we had a murder in this neighborhood. You know, you always hear about it in other peoples neighborhoods but not your own. So its kind of disturbing. Reporter looking outside the home. You see a car parked. Weve noticed that one of the tires there is flat. Not sure if its related to any of the shots fired worth noting. The body of the man shot and killed hasnt yet been removed from the home so well be careful of what we show you. Deputies saying theres no danger to anyone living here. But one person shot and killed. Were waiting for more information. Live in sarasota, james tully, abc action news. Lets check in on the forecast. This morning were learning new information about that fire at the mosque where the pulse nightclub shooter worshiped. Investigators say the fire at the Islamic Center of fort pierce may have been a hate crime. The st. Lucie says Surveillance Video shows a white or hispanic male walking toward the building carrying a bottle containing liquid and paper. He soon runs from the mosque before a big flash comes to the building. He left on a motorcycle with a low seat and high handle bars. People who live in the area say its the latest in a string of harassments toward that house of worship and its members. The message we want to send to the public, an attack on any house of worship is an attack on all houses of worship. Authorities very suspicious given the 15th anniversary of the september 11th attacks and the beginning of the feast of the sacrifice, a muslim holiday. Investigators believe a mosquito repellent candle left burning may so sparked this fire in Hernando County that destroyed a home. Firefighters were called yesterday afternoon to the brooksville home but say there were no fire hydrants in the rural why, they rushed in to bring water tankers. They managed to keep the flames from spreading to other houses but couldnt save the home the fire marshal is now investigating. The red cross is helping the two kids and two adults that live there. The fight against the zika virus heads to capitol hill. Reporter Jacqueline Powell reports on how governor rick scott is in washington, dc to fight for more federal funding. Reporter governor rick scott will be meeting with lawmakers like senator marco rubio once he gets to washington, dc. This comes after three failed attempts to create more funding for fighting zika. Right now lawmakers are working on a plan that would provide Governor Scott will be talking to Congress Members about that plan and stressing the importance of doing something now. Right now in florida nearly 800 cases of the zika virus have been confirmed. Lawmakers expect there will be a vote on the zika virus bill later this week. Im Jacqueline Powell reporting. A man accused of severely beating and biting a toddler is scheduled to go on trial today. Police arrested glen neal in july of last year. They say he old baby boy so badly that toddler suffered bleeding on the brain and had to go on life support. Investigators say the 31year old kicked and punched that baby while taking care of him. They charged him with attempted murder. Well still waiting for neals relationship to be revealed in relationship to the baby. A 2monthold baby is in dcf custody after miami police found the baby in a back seat of a car with two adults passed of the baby. Both adults are in a miami hospital. This is the second incident like it in a matter of days. On friday a 4yearold was found sitting in the back of a van in ohio while his parents are passed out from an overdose. That video went viral. A Pinellas County man is under arrest and charged with trying to rape a woman at the bar where he works. Indian Shores Police arrested peter hillicker for attempted sexual assaults and false imprisonment. Police say the v that is when police say he locked the doors an started to rip her clothes off and saying he would rape her. She kicked him in the groin and ran away. That security then detained 40 yearold bazine and a 42year old until Police Arrested them. Hes a liar. We went to the stage and he tackled me. The event unnerved the lochte about what just happened. We thought it was a joke. Part of the show. Then when we realized it was not that hurt broke my heart. That people are still on that subject and no one is moving forward. I thought they were cheering his name. Then i see dave, our Security Guard just throw them to the floor. I realized it was not a joke. The Medford School district the superintendent thinks the extra time will give kids a chance to recalibrate and go back to class refreshed. Kids love it but the district says its gotten a little pushback from some parents who think school is nor learning, not for playing. Usually takes a pretty unique circumstance to call off class but last wednesday it was not the weather or fire drill that cleared one school. Students left the building for a beloved teacher. What happens next just shows the teachers infleurns can sometimes spread beyond the classroom. Influence. Wow. It was amazing. In that moment i felt like i was not alone. Diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer last september, love for ben ellis and his family pours in daily. His wife shelley shows the cards and letters. From Elementary School students through, yeah, students that he taught 10 and 15 years ago. Reporter but they also one thing he found comfort in is singing. Reporter pastor nate morrow said it came together the night before. Tuesday evening the ellis family got hard news. Just in looking at bens progression of the cancer, we were looking for a way to just love him back. Our High School Principal got on the announcement and said everybody dropped what you are doing, load up the buses and well sing with ben. [singing] it was wonderful and more than we could have ever imagined or thought of. Reporter for ellis, accustomed to life in the classroom with young people it was profound. None of us were built to think outside ourselves at that age. And, it overwhelmed me that god with that much love, not just for me, but also for one another. We had this community that was built on loving one another. Instead of worried about self. It was a miracle. Reporter while ben ellis looked out that window more than 20 million have now looked in. At his life. And this teacher who has suffered so much has his most important thin voice dont make microphone. You know . Take the opportunity to not only to love others but, to receive love from other people. Which is often so much more difficult. To not only get to know others but to let others know you, that loving others, love you, road rage incidents becoming more common.
