We want to get straight over to fox25 meteorologist Sarah Wroblewski with what we can expect over the next couple day. Were going to be dealing wih hermine as it has been pushing o the east, northeast throughout the day. Its going to take a slight jog to the north and that means its conditions that are going to be hazardous over the next couple f days, and also bring the threat of some rain to parts of the south coast as well as the cape and islands. Here is the center of the storm. It is further east than expected at this point, but as we take a look at the official hurricane track, i want to point out, it s still expected to move to that north and slightly to the north and west as it still holds on to Tropical Storm force winds. As it makes its close approach o east and notice the time stamp here. This is by mid weekly, so its going to continue to be in our area for a couple of days and that is going to result in some Hazardous Conditions along the beaches. Current wind speed about 70 mils per hour. We just watched the coast guard hop aboard a boat and head out o check out the wind conditions ad be proactive, be out there also if there is a distress call. The high winds and rough surf that hermine is bringing as it lingers off the coast of new england for the next few days do present a threat thats why the coast guard is urging boaters to secure their vessels, tie everything up and if you do go out, make sure you have wrong. Thats of course if you choose o go ought at you will. Go through all your safety equipment. Make sure you have your life jackets and all your lights work on your boat before you head ou. If the weather is going to be to much for your boat and you dont really need to go out, if its unnecessary, dont go out. And a warning, of course, for swimmers as well. Of thousands today in the vaticn city as Mother Teresa was cannon ized. Millions watching as she was honored for her sacrifices. A man who was touched personally nearly three decades ago. Jim, that man was working at a local jail when they met. He certainly many catholics getting the news today of Mother Teresas elevation to sainthood while thy came to sunday mass. Shes one of the most recognized figures in can. This man from franklin can claim all of those things and, yes, it happened in a most unusual place. Im fortunate that i have met a saint in my life. Nearly 30 years ago, brian a maximumsecurity prison. Curly just out of the marine corps had taken a job as a correction officer. I was working this june saturday afternoon and Mother Teresa was scheduled to be there on the request of an inmate. Curly says that inmate was a monk who had written to Mother Teresa several times. She finally agreed to come in june 1988. At the time i was assigned to the kitchen and she was going to give a speech to the inmates auditorium that was adjacent to the kitchen. She had to walk down a corridor where i was working and as she was walking down the corridor i introduced myself and she had a bunch of rosary beads. She gave one of those strands to him. He was have i humbled by the whole experience. He feels Mother Teresa deserves sainthood. She walked the walk. The way she lived her life, she serviced the people who were in poverty, people who were not as fortunate as maybe i am or other theyre not worth anything other than to me. Although hes guessing their value probably went up a bit today. I told my children about the, i want to preserve them and pass them on to them and now that she is a saint it takes it to a whoe different level. He remembers that visit as a great day for the prison. He says that Mother Teresa not only gave a speech, she also met individually with inmates. I asked him whether or not it ws a brave thing for her to go to a maximumsecurity prison. He says he doesnt thi she has probably seen much worse in her life. In dorchester, jim morelli, fox5 news. The churchs priest told fox5 hes honored the church is now named after Mother Teresa and hopes to follow her message of caring for the poor. This is a fox25 Storm Tracker weather alert. Weve been tracking hermine for days now, and all morning long we kept on seeing that northeastward progression, and sure enough it has slowed down n forward speed and were going to have to wait to see if it makes the northward starting to impact our area as e saw some winds pick up for the day today, but theyre only goig to strengthen as we get through the overnight hours tonight as hermine gets a bit closer. In fact the strongest wind gusts will occur tonight into tomorrow where we could see gusts up wars of 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour and were looking at the cape and islands seeing the brunt of the action. It may lead to a few downed trees, even some Power Outages. You have to remember were in a that are already stressed out there. As for the risk of rain its not going to be a drought buster. We are talking about minimal amounts north and west, but the highest chance of seeing precipitation will be down acros the southeast, the cape and islands and thats when we have the potential of seeing up to a couple of inches. Its really going to be a coastl storm thats going to be impactd the hardest with the rain, the wind and also the high surf and dangerous rip currents, so if te beaches is where youre lanning on heading for aware we will have the high ris. As for tonight as the waves will be crashing, we have a potential of seeing a 1 to 2foot storm surge for the high tide for the south coast of nantucket and the vineyards. This is our storm system right here. Noticing its about 300 miles away from our area, but it has a large wind field with it, so Tropical Storm force winds are extending several hundred miles away, and we can see the edge of precipitation too, mainly offshore. Southward and not allowing the system to really go anywhere, so thats why its going to stall and it may even retro grade back to sea over the next several days. So thats why well be dealing with the situation over the next several days. And noticing where it is, its over warmer water, so it still has that potential to strengthen as we have wind speeds currently right now at 70 Miles Per Hour. It will probably sustain that bt as it moves into cooler should say it will begin to weaken slightly noticing the jog tuesday and pushing to the north and east. This is by mid to late week. We have a couple of days that its going to be just churning p the seas and really pounding our coast, so thats why we do have Tropical Storm warnings in place in orange and that now includes the cape and islands because were expected to see Tropical Storm force conditions within te next 36 hours. Take a look at the wave action out here. Anywhere from 10 to 20foot seas but look what happens. As we go through time youll notice by tomorrow afternoon its only going to get bigger, especially down across our south coastal waters. So i have to point out, thank yu so much for sending in your reports today. I know, blue skies, it was beautiful. A lot of folks headed to the beach, but the red flag was up and sure enough its going to be up again tomorrow. Because the winds will continue to allow for the surf to really come on in. Wind gusts today, theyre about 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour right winds increase 15 to 35 miles pr hour for boston out to the west, 35 to 45, down across the south shore, the south coast and up wards of 45 as you head to the cape and islands, thats tonight through tomorrow. As for the risk of rain, noticig by tomorrow morning, waking up o clouds and sunshine. The first band of rain comes in across the cape and islands eary monday and then retro grades bak into eastern parts of the area y the afternoon. So not everybody is going to see eastern areas and it will be quite showery too, especially across the southeast. The risk of showers may linger for the next couple of days before we dry out and warm up late in the week. Theres the latest look at your forecast. Thank you, sara. For some people it is finally time to unpack. After moving all of the stuff into apartments in boston there is a new warning from officials tonight. Coming up what people need to be asking their landlords. First. Finally a sense of closure. 27 years after a boy went california jail shot two Correctional Officers leaving them with lifethreatening injuries. According to authorities the suspect, 37yearold tong vang was in the lobby when he started struggling with the officers, shooting them. Hes charged with attempted murder and bringing drugs into the jail. Both officers are in the hospital. Tonight a unbearable sadness. People have felt invested in the wetterling familys as we report, many people hope it will bring a sense of peace. We were all in that Church Service that night. The same place they gathered the prayers were different on this night. Herb and darlene hoped for a long time that Jacob Wetterling would be safe.
