The two were later identified as doctor raja fayad and his ex wife sunghee kwon. The couple had been married for four years but divorced in august 2013. Records show kwon filed for divorce from fayad, blaming irreconcilable differences. Fayad was an associate professor with the university of South Carolina in the department of exercise science in the Arnold School of Public Health. The student i talked to today says fayad was an outstanding man, mentor, and professor. I think what i want people to remember about dr. Fayad is that, you know, with whatever you do in your life, you have to be optimistic about it, because thats the approach he took to everything. When you have struggles, you keep going. Everyday, especially when i was starting out, and i was trying, he put me right into a cancer biology field to learn about drug design for cancer. I knew nothing good six months just in limbo not knowing what to do, and everyday id go show me whats wrong. Well fix it. thats what you want out of a professor. Thats what you want of someone that you want to be your mentor, and thats exactly what he gave us.
