Abcs Marcy Gonzalez reports on why this weekend in particular is a battle against the virus. Concern growing across the country. With more than 80 cases of measles across more than a dozen states, Health Officials warn this is a critical point in this outbreak. Big thing with measles is its extremely contagious. Experts believe this outbreak began last month after an unvaccinated family was infected at disneyland and a woman exposed to them contracted it. Doctors worry she may have exposed nearly 200 children to the virus when she visited a clinic near phoenix. Health Officials Say 1,000 adults in the area are also being monitored. What theyre being told is watch for signs and symptoms of measles. With super bowl fans heading to the big game in phoenix this weekend, medical students will be out looking for anyone with measleslike symptoms which includes fever cough runny nose, pink eye and rash. The risk is really very, very small. And if youre vaccinated your risk is nonexistent. This outbreak is reigniting the debate over vaccinations and the choice more parents are making to not immunize their children. Theres also many risks if they get the vaccine vs. Getting an illness that they could actually recover from. Its a personal decision i understand. You have to look at the greater good as well. And now in phoenix and in across the country, doctors are telling anyone potentially exposed to the virus and not vaccinated to stay away from Public Places for 21 days. Marcy gonzalez abc 7 news. You look outside one minute and its blue skies and sunshine. Next minute its dark as night and in between times its windy. Thats todays weather. Were not talking about whats happening sunday yet. Lets jump into it. This is the wind advisory up until through midnight into the entire area shaded in i dont know if thats tan. Maybe kind of a tan. Kind of shows you the whole story and these winds could gust over 40 Miles Per Hour. Theyre kind of the threshold for wind gusts to prompt the advisory. We also have the snow squalls and some of them are very heavy but rapidly moving from the northwest to the southeast so right now the heaviest snow squall moving across calvert county. There could be a few more. Biggest story today will be the winds. Temperatures arent bitterly cold. The really col icy air is to the northwest. Up the road in arlington, snow squall. Look at that. It came and then back to blue skies and the sunshine. Another snow squall. Thats the way the day has been. I think there will be a few more flurries but theyll tend to be fewer and farther in between spacewise as we get through the afternoon. A little colder north and west now. 32 in hagerstown. 32 in couple cumberland. The winds will continue tonight and by tonight, much colder air will be moving in courtesy of these strong northwesterly winds. At last check, wind gusts to 32 Miles Per Hour at dulles. 36 in manassas. 31mileanhour gusts at Reagan National and well continue to see these high gusts through the evening and right through late tonight as well. This is our futurecast and its showing clear skies tomorrow. The winds will diminish but it will be much colder. Highs only around 32 and already, our attention goes out west. Whats coming here sunday . Will it be rain . Will it be sleet . Will it be snow . Yes. But how much and exactly who gets what remains to be seen. It all depends on where the storm center goes. Right now this analysis on our futurecast suggests that we may get very little snow. May start as snow but winds up as a mix or plain oldfashioned rain. Storm system going to move west or east overhead. In order for us to get any measurable snow, the storm center has to pass to our south. Remember, if youre a weather map watcher, you probably already know this but all, as in 100 all of our major snowstorms we get in our area, all of them come from the south. We can get three, four five inches now and then from a storm from the west. But were not going to get the big one. And again if this storm comes as tracked like this were not going to see much snow at all. Inch or two in some spots. Mainly a mix and then changing to rain. And well see very cold weather resume next week once again. Heres the forecast for today. Well see sunshine windy weather. Temperatures about 36 38 degrees. Tomorrow, well have the same kind of conditions but it will be a bit colder and check out the next seven days for you. Heres what we see. More cold weather. Now, we have the high probability of precipitation saturday night and sunday. Dont get me wrong. But it does not appear right now to be all snow at all. Rather, a mix. And we still have some time for more computer models to work on it but it will clear out by wednesday. Look at how cold it remains and another chance of a system possibly by next thursday. Oh, good the fun never stops. Ill tell you. I was going to say. Bring in february yeah. Thank you very much. We are learning new details about the Sexual Assault trial against two college vanderbilt football players. The players were found guilty yesterday and tonight, 20 20 takes a closer look at the case and uncovered some Surprising New details. Brian smith joins us live to talk about it. Good to see you. What can you tell us about this case that we didnt hear in the courtroom . Autria tonight, were going to have a lot of as you mentioned some new details but many, many things we learned. One of which was talking to the jurors learning their impressions in that jury room and how they came to their decision and one thing that i think stunned a lot of people was these jurors and their anger when they saw that video in that courtroom. This was video that no one else has seen. Video from inside the dorm room where the young woman was now, as we now know sexually assaulted and they talked about their fury when they saw that and how that affected them. Not only that we learned a lot about how they came to their decision. This was a jury that very quickly felt that all that the young men were guilty on really all counts. They just had to wrap things up quickly. Test each other on theories. But when you think about it this case, a lot of people thought it might take hours and hours, maybe days to decide. But it wrapped up in three hours. Thats fairly quick for double digit counts. It is ryan, but you mentioned the video that they were shown. There were cell phone photos taken of the assault. What can the backlash be for their decision . For their verdict . I dont think theres a lot of backlash at this point. I think there was a small contingent that said you know these are young men. Was it perhaps, a situation that got out of control, but many of those jurors that i spoke to the jurors that i spoke to talked about how this didnt feel like a situation where they could be lenient. They had a responsibility to impose the law, and they said when they looked at the law, especially when you talk about Brandon Vandenburg and the idea that he was criminally responsible, the law said if youre encouraging, you could have that responsibility. Brandon was in that room saying certain words to encourage them. And they felt like once they heard that, and once they saw that video, the
