Classmates gathered here at this temple to say their final farewells to grace mann. Mann a 20yearold university of Mary Washington student was found unresponsive in her off campus home last friday. Her life tragically cut short after authority said she was strangled. Mann was described as someone who loves music and among her peers was known for fighting for justice and equality. This morning, a family friend read a statement from her parents. Its with profound sadness and disbelief that we are here today. Our hearts are simply broken. Our beautiful, sparkling, compassionate, wonderful funny, brilliant grace is not with us. Brianne were learning new details as well about exactly what happened. Now, we did have a reporter in the courtroom there in fredricksburg as 30yearold Steven Vander briel who lives in the same home as mann appeared in Court Earlier this morning. We understand he is facing charges in connection with her death. This morning, he was appointed a public defender and we understand according to this t proceedings was held without bond. Jummy new developments this noon in the search for the man wanted in the murder of his wife in an Anne Arundel County dunkin donuts. Police are still looking for patel. According to the capital gazette, patel may have fled the country. Hes charged in the death of his wife in the shop where they learned. They found her body on april 12th and they say she was apparently hit multiple times with an object. Court paperwork suggests that patel took a cab to Newark International airport in new jersey where he may have boarded a plane. The investigation also continues into what caused a fatal spinal injury in freddie gray up in baltimore. This cell phone video has eemerge emerged that shows the end of the encounter. The 25yearold can be seen on the ground with three officers over him as he screams in apparent pain. He died a week later. Right now, six officers are on leave. Theyre responsible for what happened here because it happened in their custody under extraordinarily suspicious circumstances. A former Michigan Police officer has a Court Appearance today after he was charged criminally for beating a man after a traffic violation. Protesters are on their way to the capital to demand lawmakers take action on police brutality. They want more Government Investment in minority communities. They want to demilitarize local police and then, of course they want to end racial profiling across the country. Now, they started this march nine days ago in new york city. Today, they will end on the west lawn of the capitol. They say they expect thousands of people members of congress and even celebrities. Meanwhile, jurors will hear evidence in the penalty case of the Boston Marathon bombing trial. As expected Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted of all 30 charges against him earlier this month. As abcs Marcy Gonzalez reports, this phase of the trial is going to be much harder to predict. Marcy back in the courtroom, today is a battle for convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaevs life begins. The same jury that found him guilty on all charges seated again today for the penalty phase of the trial. The home had belonged to a woman who had been dead for three years. This is johnsons second trial. She was convicted in february of stealing and moving into another home. Well have a lot of sunshine and gusty winds and temperatures are going to be close to 70 degrees in some spots. Lets look at Reagan National with a live shot from the rooftop camera behind it. 65 degrees with a westnorthwesterly wind at 16 miles an hour. 63 in frederick and 61 degrees in baltimore at this hour. So well be watching for temperatures to make a slow climb. Gusty winds will bring in drier air. These are the wind speeds now, not the gusts. On monday morning, he called for help saying he and his sister were trapped inside the burning home on small drive in clinton. Im happy i did that. Trying to save my life and he did. She says it happened as she took a quick step back inside her home before taking her son to school. Baby was gone and there was a bike there so i knew somebody took my baby. This after ice cream tested positive for listeriaosis. The company is looking into how that bacteria got into the manufacturing line. Blue bell issued a recall last month after it was linked to three deaths. Five others were sickened in both kansas and texas. The usda says cases of bird flu are growing in the united states. Nearly eight million cases have been detected in 13 states since december. Most of them are confirmed this month. Officials say more than seven million infected hens will have to be euthanized in iowa and minnesota. Health Officials Say no human infections with the virus have ever been detected. Another legal complaint has been filed seeking to halt the closure of sweet briar college. The complaint alleges breach of contract against the private Womans College and president james jones.
