Plaquers left on the scene. Look at the scene from earlier today. A terrible story. We understand, we were told by the chief of police is a group from a home here. A group home for special needs residents had left their house just up the block and were walking down to a basketball court. They were going to play some basketball. They came across two people in a car. For some reason or another, words were exchanged. According to Prince Georges County chief of police, one of the residents of the group home doesnt respond real well. And someone in car pulls out a gun. Opens fire. And hits that man in his 20s. That man runs just a little ways before he drops to the ground. Police say, this is an important note. Someone who was with the shooter was apparently horrified by what happened. Got out of the shooters car. Actually ran to the victim to and made comments that were heard in the neighborhood about how horrified that person was by the shooting. Police want that person to come forward. That person likely faces no criminal charges but holds the information they knead to make an arrest. Again, a terrible kraime out here. Two dead on the ucla campus in los angeles, california. Michelle reports coming in a little before 1 00 our time. Students put on lockdown. Hours later we learn its a murdersuicide. At times we saw police mapping out the area and rushing around the buildings there. Mike carterconneen is at the live desk with more. Mike the Los Angeles Police chief says two men are dead. There is mo evidence that any other suspects are outstanding. The two men were not identified. And police have not said students or staff members. But the shooting happened in a small office in an Engineering Building there on campus. Police found a gun along with what might be a suicide note. Meanwhile, officers methodically moved buildings at times with the weapons drawn escorting everyone away from the crime scene. The hands raised in the air. We are in the process of releasing students from lockdown. But we need to do so in an orderly fashion. And in a way that allows us to make sure there are no other participants. At that point this investigation will be handed over to Robbery Homicide Division of Los Angeles Police department. Mike the white house says president obama was briefed on the shooting. The man who ran the silver diner killing a customer last month faces new criminal charges. He is facing seconddegree murder. Tom roussey is in Tysons Corner with more on the story. Tom . Tom jonathan, the reason he wasnt charged prior to this, police were waiting for him to get out of jail. Its been four weeks to the day since it happened at the tysons silver diner. If you look at the entrance you cant tell anything happened. If you look closer you can see a few marks left over. But man it looks better than four weeks ago today. Here is video from that day. A wednesday. During the busy time of lunchtime rush here at the silver diner. Police say he rammed his s. U. V. Repeatedly into that entrance and then hi he wouldnt let folks try to help him. He doused himself w hummer on fire. He was pulled out of there. He spent weak in that time. In that time one of the three people injured when it happened passed away. So now he is facing seconddegree murder charge. Charge for destruction of property and a alleged arson as well. He was released in the custody of d. C. But he decided not to fight extradition in virginia. So he was taken to the Fairfax County jail. Reporting live in tysons, im tom roussey, abc7 news. Michelle a cloud of controversy surrounding Chevy Chase High School and the Montgomery County public schools. Six students who showed up drunk to prom were told they couldnt walk at graduation. The principal made that call. But then reversed the decision. Montgomery county reporter kevin lewis was at the Commencement Ceremony where opinions were mixed. Kevin after a year of deadly alcoholrelated crashes and underage drinking parties partin Montgomery County, the principal here wanted to ensure her students were kept safe at prom. So anyone who planned to attend senior prom had to sign this contract, which included a clause planning students from bringing drugs or alcohol or being you remembered the influence. The contract stated violators would not walk at todays graduation. In the may 6 prom at the omni hotel in woodly park, six seniors were found consuming alcohol. The principal kept to her word banning all six students from commencement. The kids and their parents appealed that decision. The petition landed on interim mcps superintendent larry bowers desk. His decision, let the kids walk. He cited policy that bans blanket disciplinary measures. We had to sign a contract. It was in black and white. We simply stated if anyone had a question about it. If they didnt want to give her the authorization to make the decision they should have had a discussion prior to her making that announcement. Tonight a woman in new jersey is learning firsthand about the devastating effects of the zika virus. The woman gave birth at a hospital yesterday. And doctors are confirming now her newborn has microcephaly. That is the condition caused by the virus in which a childs brain and head are only partially there are often developmental problems and developmental problems can be severe. Could be intellectual problems. They could be problems with sight, hearing, movement. Alison so the mother who was visiting the United States contracted the virus while she was in honduras. And there is a potential breakthrough in the fight against the zika virus to tell you about. The brazilion Health Surveillance Agency Approved a test to detect the zika virus in 20 minutes. After at least eight months of research this is the first test that quickly detects the disease in brazil. Until now patients who suspected they might have the virus had to wait at least some three weeks to get their lab results back. According to investigators, they say she returned nearly 230 designer handbags at t. J. Of them were fake. According to the Court Documents investigators say the suspect Praepitcha Smatsorabudh was buying legitimate purses from Department Stores and returning them for refund using the counterfeit bags and then selling the real ones online. She was buying the counterfeit bags from china. Investigators searched her apartment in march they found nearly 600 purses. Some of them were real. Others were fake. Some of the ripoffs are pretty good at it. They look really good. Not shocking but just sad. Sad that the stores wouldnt be more diligent.
