Local 12 news, live at noon. Winter weather advisory continues for the tristate. Originally, it was set to go until 6 00 in the morning. This includes everyone in the local viewing area. Earlier today. Parts of southwestern ohio were under a winter storm warning. Thats been discontinued. The advisory remains with no warning in effect, and advisory in effect, that should tell you, there should be impacts from scattered snow showers late in the arch this evening and early tomorrow. The impacts will be lower than early this morning, when we have burst of moderate to heavy snow and even snow squalls. Outside chance of snow squalls this evening and early tomorrow. Most will see snow showers. Subtle reductions in the visibility. Bursts of accumulation. S in temperatures are falling down to 20 degrees late this evening and overnight, well showers. Scattered meaning not everyone will see snow overnight. And showers imply snow that starts and stops. Early tomorrow morning, temperatures will center in the midteens. The windchill will likely be in the at least upper Single Digits, if not the low teens. Some could have wind chills briefly close to zero. Satellite data, clusters of snow moving to the tristate now. The Cincinnati Police departments new command staff adds to almost a century of chief elliot, named two Police Chiefs and new executive this afternoon. And the new assistant chief, calls gates, mike john and hairy higgy. Higgy is just the female assistant chief and the Police Departments history going back to 1803. Shes been in the department 25 years, working on key jobs, including criminal investigation and serving as a district commander. 25 years, ive felt ive always been treated just a man in the department, which is what i want. And local 12 larry davis is the Middletown High School and he tells us what he saw today. The high school plans to be open on thursday despite the fact that there was a threat issued by a student. Thats according to the city of middletown and police department. They confirmed a student was connected to the threat. They say there will be extra police when the threat was supposed to be carried out. The city manager nor the police chief is commenting, but the police chief was critical of the news media and has a few things to say in the facebook media. Im larry davis, local 12 news. And reaction from the middletown naacp who is also a Middletown Council member and wanted in the district. 48yearold michael pruit is accused of shooting his girlfriend. They believe he shot her boyfriend as well. U. S. Marshals there tracked him down and arrested him. Officers expect pruit to be extradited later this afternoon. A jeep crashed into a local train. Joe webb is working the story. And im in boone county where a driver last night slid on black ice and ran into the side of a freight train. He survived. His car was stranded on the tracks. It is not unexpected. Thats the latest we get from Public Health experts in ohio and indiana. The first case in ohio, reported a 30yearold woman in cleveland who traveled to haiti. The same was true for the case in indiana. We dont know the gender or we did hear from Public Health experts in indianapolis. The virus was spread by mosquito bites. Were not in danger of spreading this way rapidly in the winter. They have tracked similar virus like those in the west nile. They will likely do the same as . This virus. Weve been through this before. As the signs develops and we understand the relationships between what the mosquitoes carrying the zika virus as well as the problems or causing infections, diseases causing, well adjust accordingly. For the case in ohio, were told the person didnt have to be hospitalized. Avoid travel to south america if theres suggestion that theres defects. If you have symptoms like the flu, red eye, check with your doctor. You could check for the virus. Although were not in mosquito season yet, protect against bug bites. Wear proper clothing. Theres a few cases of sexual transmission of zika. Some say the advice with sexual contact if someone you know has traveled to those infected areas as well. You could get the virus possibly from them this way. So far, as many as 50 cases so far overall. Even cases who travel from each other. Someone got bitten by the mosquito. We think it could be 30 days you could infect another person. You have the virus, goes out, develop the virus . I think were still figuring out. It includes Northern Kentucky and south eastern indiana. This is not a warning. So this is more of an inconvenient event from here on out. This morning, roads were dangerous in some spots. Bursts of snow. Moderate to heavy. Big drops of visibility. This goes around, bursts of snow, reducing the visibility. Some in spots under a mile. And the potential is there for accumulation with every single snow shower that comes through. Theres no rain that mixes in. No sleet or rain mixing in. Evening. Expect scattered snow showers for the next several hours and at least in the first half of tomorrow. Scattered meaning nobody will see snow showers. Snow showers, snow that starts and stops in the next several hours, down close to 20 degrees by midnight. Overnight, including at the start of good morning. Upper teens. Snow showers continue overnight and in the scattered form and right to tomorrow morning and we have light to occasional moderate snow, hamilton, boone county, and claremont and Warren County, individual clusters of flurries and snow showers will reduce the visibility.
