Apparently this is a pretty popular after School Hangout spot on flatbush and atlantic avenue. This is where everything broke out. I want to walk you through what happened. It was about this time yesterday afternoon in front of the Burlington Coat factory when this big fight broke out. The nypd was able to break it up and a group ran down flatbush avenue where another incident broke out. Theres a noticeable Police Presence here one day after the incident took place. Now detectives are trying to figure out whether or not this fight was planned on social media. This cell phone video captured part of the bloody brawl on flatbush avenue. You can see dozens of teenagers gathering around, some of them cheering each other on as they punch, kick and hit a teenager on the ground. I looked out the window. I saw the helicopter. I saw kids running up and down scattering all over the place. And a bunch of police. But its an everyday occurrence. This was criminal activity reporter this Community Activist says the violence started monday afternoon when a student from John Jay High School stabbed a 16yearold student in the stomach. Part of the group moved to the Burlington Coat factory where two teenagers were assaulted. The police did respond. They did get in position and move the kids away. But a faction of the kids, upwards of 200 of them, moved down the street, down on flatbush avenue, where they turned around and set upon an individual who had nothing to do with anything. They beat the poor kid senselessly. Reporter the nypd is tracking social media to see if the fights were planned. A lot are built up on social media. Were doing that to see what the source is and prevent anything in the future. Reporter three people were arrested but activists believe there are more suspects out there. We are asking that the parents, if you see the likeness and know your child participated, do the responsible thing. You have to bring the children forward. Community activists plan to get in touch with the principals at the schools that had students involved. They want to have an assembly bringing in excons and former Corrections Officers to speak to these students and let them know their consequences can have serious repercussions. A former new York City Police officer is in a Westchester County courtroom pleading guilty to attempted murder and also dwi charges. In april of last year, he opened fire on two men in a car in pelham. One was hit six times and was seriously wounded. The other one was able to get away. Police say it appeared to be a deal, he will spend nine years behind bars. Steve 10 more have been arrested in the death of michael deng. He was a freshman during pledge week when he was killed. 13 people have been charged in his death. 22 are expected to face charges. Dari a new squad of nypd officers will police a stretch of harlem plagued by a growing homeless population. The area is along 125th street. In addition to the homeless, hundreds of recovering addicts use two methadone clinics. At a breakfast for the association for a better new york, commissioner bratton issue. Im going to be assigning a fulltime unit, about 38 officers, for that area. They have many hospitals and theres an attraction. Theyll have officers with the nuances of the law, the specialized training to deal with the population, is what were doing throughout the city. Dari the commissioner said in the First Six Months of this year, calls to 311 about homeless camps were up 105 percent. And calls for homeless assistance jumped 200 percent. One of the biggest issues, families looking to transition from shelters into Affordable Housing have limited options. The new facility is expected to solve the problem. A critical first piece of mayor de blasios efforts to stem the homelessness crisis in new york city is taking shape. We all deserve a safe and affordable place to live. Of the landing row of residences is complete, it will include a permanent Housing Development and new homeless shelter, two facilities in one says the deputy mayor for housing and economic development. This project will help hundreds of homeless new yorkers both get quality shelter and also have an opportunity to get really low cost affordable permanent housing. Reporter the challenges of transitioning from living in a shelter to Affordable Housing, a focus of a recent fox 5 special. The project in the bronx is a mix of private and Public Investment and part of the administrations home stretch initiative. There are too many that are homeless. This is one of the initiatives were launching to deal with the problem. Dari well, the citys styrofoam ban has been crushed like a used cup of coffee. Steve a judge overturned the ban saying the argument that dirty containers cant be recycled isnt true. Heres linda schmidt. This is a great day. Reporter this attorney represents the Restaurant Action Alliance which sued the city over the styrofoam ban. A New York State Supreme Court judge today ruled in favor of the alliance, striking down the ban. Now, the city had maintained that styrofoam packaging used in restaurants, delis and bodegas, cannot be recycled if its soiled with food. But the state Supreme Court judge determined there wasnt any evidence supporting the citys claim. The judge found that the record showed that food service items, all polystyrene items will be recycled, and there was a plan proposed that private city would have paid for to recycle all of the citys polystyrene and have less of that waste going to landfills. Reporter the styrofoam ban went into effect in july. City hall released a Statement Today saying it is reviewing its options to keep the ban in effect and that, quote, we disagree with the ruling. These products cause real environmental harm and we need to be able to prevent nearly 30,000 tons of expanded polystyrene waste from entering our landfills, streets and waterways. As i said, the styrofoam ban in the city actually went into effect in july, but the city wasnt going to fine violators until january. Attorney general Eric Schneiderman announced an investigation and it looks like more cars are affected. Volkswagen said it intentionally rigged emissions tests for half a million diesel cars in the u. S. Now it says 11 million cars are affected world wide. Vw installed software that would switch its engines to a cleaner mode for emissions test and switch them afterwards. The german car maker could face a record fine of 18 billion for that. Today the company said it has set aside 7 billion. Its ceo has been apologizing, but he could lose his job. The ceo of porsche is rumored to step in. Apple, the company has been hacked. They can steal personal information from iphones. These are apps that are big in china, not in the u. S. If you thought Apple Software was unhackable, think again. Theyve had issues before. Youll remember the celebrity photos being stolen off icloud. There have been other instances that involve Apple Software. What happened here was, you know, apple makes a promise that theyre going to do their best to review apps that come on to the app store. They cant read every single line of source code and think about everything within the context of that app. What happened here is we had a couple of bad apps that were added to the store. Its High Pressure thats building down from the north that will dry things out. What we will have to watch is notice the swirl going on out here.
