There have been eight pedestrians struck and killed by vehicles since saturday night. Three of those killed by buses. This is heartbreaking not just for the families, but for safer street advocates who say more needs to be done when it comes to enforcement and Holding Drivers accountable. Lets run through a few of the accidents. Saturday night a group of people trickortreating in the bronx struck when a driver careened on to the sidewalk. A nineyearold, her grandfather and a 24yearold were killed in that crash. On tuesday, a 70yearold woman was killed by a bus while crossing the street. Another woman was killed by an mta bus sunday in queens. Last night an 84yearold woman was struck and killed in flushing, queens, by a charter bus. The driver actually took off in that crash. Police tell us they later caught up with them in connecticut. Its headed to foxwoods casino. The mayor says despite the scenes, vision zero is working. We should assume crashes are avoidable, that theyre not inevitable, theyre avoidable. We see the Public Education making an impact. We see the lower speed limit making an impact. The enforcement of the lower speed limit, nypd issued 100,000 speeding tickets this year so far. 100,000, which is nearly twice as much as before vision zero was put into effect. The mayor said that rightofway violations were up three times since vision zero took effect. Hell be attending a day of remembrance for victims next sunday and parents who have lost children say they are encouraged by that. I spoke to one mother who says more needs to be done. We want to be true to these characters, true to who they are in personality, but deliver an experience that is big and action packed. Reporter jeff helped create the movie. He works for Animation CompanyBlue Sky Studios in greenwich, connecticut, and he showed us how they make the magic happen. First, they start with drawings that explain the story. Then its up to the animators to figure out the motion and the acting of the characters. Get into the acting room and film myself dancing. Rudimentary. It gives me a rough sense of the timing. It was cut down in gardner, new york, earlier. A mansion on long islands gold coast is in need of an extreme home makeover. Dari Jodi Goldberg shows us the effort to save hempstead house. The hempstead house was built more than 100 years ago. Today it holds vast history as one of the oldest gold coast estates, where the guggenheim has called home. Its a venue for celebration on the estate was taken over by Nassau County in the 1970s. A group known as friends, short for friends of the sands point preserve, is vowing to restore it. Its in beautiful condition from a distance. When you get up close, you realize it has structural issues. The chairman of friends says restoration is the only way to properly preserve the houses history. These carvings in stained glass are original. Up until now, the county was using a 1 million grant to repair the cracked windows on the outside. Soon after the work started, the contractors realized a lot more needed to be done. The interior is safe and it is used for events. But the roof is really the area that we think is most critical. Its heartfelt. When you work here, its just part of you.
