Nice and cool this morning, your temps came down, but theyre actually just back down to where they should be, maybe a little bit below normal. Its a 9degree drop from 12 hours ago. Sky, well, its basically clearing out. Still some clouds over the Northern Tier, so up around orange county, sullivan county, even some showers trying to flirt with the Northern Tier of sullivan county, but for the most part, were seeing the clouds pulled away from her. Now, we are dealing with this issue on the lie west after exit 28. Its an accident, the center lane is blocked off, you see all this red, traffic is jammed moving into it. Accident in the center lane in away. Area. Here is whats going on. You see we have the car that got into the accident on a tow truck, some other flashing lights with Emergency Activity. Really, really heavy moving into this spot. Delays at least back to the rfk triboro. Heres the fdr. Traffic moving this way is the northbound side, looking much better than it was before even though the southbound side at 116th, we had this accident in the process of being cleared away. Those delays have eased out, so looks like maybe that activity on the northbound side is gone, but if youre heading southbound, youre still going to be hitting a ton of traffic. Traffic at the gwb nonexistent to go inbound, no delay at all. If you can look through the haze here, we do have a decent inbound to the helix, holland tunnel is also looking pretty good. Trains are looking good, and new Jersey Transit system running along with a new timetable, so pick a new one up. Good morning, everyone. The house Homeland Security chair was short on details but still quite scary stuff. The pope will be here in about a week and a half, and while a lot of people are excited, it is presenting some major security concerns. We had always heard this was going to be a massive security operation, but it seems as though this is greater than even anticipated especially since the pope has a tendency to veer off script. We are monitoring very closely threats against the pope as he comes into the United States. We have disrupted one particular case. House Homeland Security chairman congressman Michael Mccaul says intelligence officials have this warranted an attack planned thwarted an attack. He did not provide specifics. Its unclear in which city the attack was to take place or if it was directly linked to the holy father. The numerous events in washington, philadelphia and new york city including open air events like the popes ride through central park are cause for concern, especially since pope francis has a tendency to veer off script. He likes to get out with the large security risk. I think were all very, be very vigilant to protect him as he comes into the United States. According to the New York Post, the director of the secret service has even traveled to rome to study vatican security. Meantime here at home, officials are dealing with another big problem, that of ticket scalpers taking advantage of the popes central park visit. The tickets, which were given out in a free lottery, appear on ebay and craigs list for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Timothy Cardinal Dolan says scalping free tickets goes against everything the pope stands for. New yorkers agree. You cant sell it u. Its something very personal. You should feel very lucky to attend an event like that. So weve got a subway station thats brand new on the Far West Side. The 7 train goes from far out in queens to far out in west manhattan. This is a gleaming new subway station, and the entrance is beautiful as the riders descend down to platform level. This is a muchneeded station in a neighborhood sorely in need of subway service. This provides access to not only the hudson yards, but also the high line as well as the Javits Center nearby. And as i said, this is the citys first subway system since 1989. The number 7 train extension is open for business. New workweek, new subway station. The 469th, to be exact. This is really a monumental day for this city. The 2. 4 billion extension runs a mile and a half from times square to 34th street and 11th avenue. The trip takes about six minutes, but the journey from the start of this project to its years. The mta chairman says it was worth the wait. Just is like in the 20th century when the 7 train created neighborhoods like long island city, sunny side, jackson heights, this extension instantly creates an accessible new neighborhood right here in manhattan. The columnfree station is light and airy. Mosaics adorn the interior. At least for now it is free of the gunk and grime that cling to the citys other 468 stations. It boasts new incline elevators which have been prone to problems and delayed the completion of the project. On the first day that the new 7 line extension was open, this was practically a stampede to ride it. And for the mta which normally only hears grumbles and complaints, we heard nothing but satisfied customers. I used to have to get off at 34th street, at 34th and eighth and have to walk a mile from Harold Square. I got to work, i was tired and sweaty already, so this is nice. Mayor de blasio took some heat from the mta chair, tom prendergast, for not ponying up more city money to support the capital plan. Looks like thats probably what its going to be, right around 58, 59 degrees. Anyhow, its a cooler start to the day. 56 at newark and 62 in montauk. Dewpoints are way lore, so the airs drier, its cooler, comfortable, open up the windows, let that fresh air in. It actually looks like its going to be comfortable through the majority of this week, but the warmer temps will be making a comeback. Winds coming in from the southwest today. At this point around 612 miles per hour, so its a little breezy this morning, but the winds will pick up later on today as this area of low pressure which is kind of driving it all continues to move to the northeast and High Pressure builds in on the back side.
