This was the officer shot last night, a bullet lodging in his left thigh. Tonight he flashed his right thumb, telling reporters and supporters that he is ok and lucky to be alive. It is monday night and the big story on action news tonight is the latest in the case that temporarily failed a philadelphia cop. Tonight this man, 23yearold Scott Griffin is behind bars. He is the alleged triggerman in the mccullough shooting and was captured today. And reporter Trish Hartman is live at headquarters. What is the latest on all of this . Jim, moveser k ee eer of mccullough recovering at home as he left the hospital today surrounded by family and fellow officers. After one night at penn presbyterian hospital, officer mccullough surrounded by his brothers in blue left the hospital. The father and 2year veteran of the force shot in the leg last night. Tonight in northeast philadelphia his friends and teammates from the rugby club were celebrating. He is a quiet guy overall, but on the field he was a mad man. And i heard the report that he tackled a guy, and i thought thats jimmy. Not just a tenacious player but loyal servant. He made the decision to become a cop because he loves it. One of the few i hearsay i i hear say i love being a cop. The suspects, 23yearold Scott Griffin and another robbed a man on Market Street and car jacked a woman nearby. The suspect takes off and officer mccullough starts to chase him. And at that point he turns and shoots, and he shoots him in the leg. Today, griffin arrested facing attempted murder and robbery charges. He was arrested 14 times, most recently for carrying a firearm without a license in march, landing him in jail. His courtappointed lawyer tells action news he had a preliminary hearing ruling in griffins favor dropping charges, and charges were refiled the next day but griffin was not taken into custody. And he was charged with a gun conviction when he was 18, and he had a gun on him earlier today. And ballistics tests will determine if that was the gun that shot officer mccullough. It happened inside of his kensington home. 30yearold Maurice Phillips faces charges of thirddegree murder. Police say he confessed to shooting 4yearold Tahirah Phillips after initially blaming the killing on the victims 5yearold sibling. And the fourth person was also shot but managed to escaped and is in critical hospital. Condition. And a crossing guard struck and killed. A red truck hit another car and the impact sent the truck into the crossing guard. Nobody else was hurt. The ntsb has released its preliminary report on the deadly amtrak crash in chester earlier this month. Investigators say the backhoe on the tracks was doing preplanned working when the train crashed into it april 3. It is still not clear if the track was closed to trains at the time. A worker on the backhoe and his supervisor were killed. The report also says that the engineer used the emergency brakes as soon as he saw the equipment. A full investigation will take months to complete. Former University Student leader pleading guilty to tweeting anonymous threats against black students last fall. And the state prosecutors will recommend that the 25yearold be sentenced to 90 days in jail. They also want her to pay 82,000 in restitution to cover the costs of the heightened security after the threats. And she will be sentenced in june. The governchvernor of texas declared a state of emergency in nine counties after widespread flooding. More than a foot of rain in the houston area in the past day. And tonight, Officials Say five people died in the flooding. Two of the people died when they ignored barricades and tried to survive through an underpass.
