Trail to the walnut street bridge when a man slashed her in the forehead just like that. No warning, no conscience. It is thursday night and the big story on action news tonight is the search for an attacker. After an assault that once again brings into question the safety of the Schuylkill River trail. Action News Reporter Christie Ileto is live at the scene of the attack. And christie, youve got the full story. Thats right, jim. Police say that she and another person were walking up these steps when they realized that they were being followed. Moments later, the 24yearold woman had a 3inch gash on her face. At 3 00 this afternoon there was a it is all people are talking about on the Schuylkill River trail. Detectives say a 24yearold woman attacked in broad daylight today. Today . Yeah, at 3 00. Oh, my gosh. The victim and her friend were climbing these steps that led to walnut street when the suspect wearing a dark hoodie began to follow. And he reportedly shouted you dont know anything and slashed her forehead with an object. And a day like this you have runners and bikers and passerbyes up top. And you wouldnt think that anybody would be harmed. A lot of people out here. Wow thats correct is scary. A rash of attacked early w earliyer this year put a spotlight on it. And they say this is a painful reminder to step up efforts to make the trail safe. And volunteers as part of a new trail watch, they will be patrolling a lot sooner. We just think we should use the resources that we have and go out on the trail and have another layer. The trail has newlyplaced markers and lighting and later cameras. And for now, extra eyes on the trail to make sure this attack isnt repeated. The victim was taken to the hospital and is stable. Now the suspect is described as being in his 20s with a beard and having a dark hoodie. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives. The accident happened at 4 30 at the intersection of germantown and gravers lane. And a woman suffered head injuries and at einstein medical center. And a 50 woman treated for hand and knee injuries. Police in south florida say a philadelphia woman admitted to killing her two small children yesterday. Sophia hines allegedly suffocated her 7monthold son, st. Leo and 3yearold daughter ariel yesterday at a relatives home. And we spoke to hines husband in the frankford seconds of philadelphia, and Anthony Singleton is the father of the boy. Really good with the kids. This was the last person i would think would do something to our son. To our daughter. Police say hines called a relative to come home after the incident. That relative saw the childrens lifeless bodies and called police. Investigators had not said why hines allegedly killed the children. Police charged Anthony Gilbert of upper chichester in connections with a shooting on i95 on tuesday. Police say a 38yearold victim was traveling north near the girard point bridge in philadelphia when gilbert came up fast behind him. After an exchange, gilbert fired a hand gun, allegedly hitting the rear wheel of the victims car. Arrested in south philadelphia this morning, he has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief. On the campaign front, things are moving quickly on the democratic side. President barack obama endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. I know how hard this job can be. Thats why i know hillary will be so good at it. I told them i believed this was unconstitutional and now i know that i am right because the court said so. The representative has been fighting pgws collection process calling it flawed and a federal judge agreed. And they say it violates due process and pgw is appealing it. And telling action news they currently suspended placing leans on the property of the landlords upon resolution of the case. Allowing the gas works to lean the landlord without notice, and they hope to change that. Justice requires the right thing be done. If the law is repealed, they get nothing. Of course thats what i want. What hearing will reserve any issues with the Summary Judgment and determine if leans on other properties will be thrown out. And pgw has not said what they owed but if they cannot collect it, it will be passed on to other customers. We want to join the Camden School district in paying tribute tonight to 20 outstanding students in the class of 2016. They overcame poverty, violent neighborhoods and family issues to excel as students, earn High School Diplomas and set sights on continuing their education.
