Two years ago this month, Pennsylvania Attorney general Kathleen Kane was featured in reports calling her one of the brightest stars in the democratic party. Today the embattled kane is preparing to unceremoniously leave office while fighting criminal charges. She maintains her office continues to do its work. Well, kane sat down for an interview with me at our studio this week to talk about what happened. I loved my job. Im grateful that i ran. Im grateful that i was elected and i will do it all over again even knowing the trials and tribulations that i have personally been put through. And the trials and tribulations have been many for Kathleen Kane. Her term as pennsylvanias first elected female and democratic attorney general has been tainted by controversy and scandal. She has been charged with perjury and obstruction by Montgomery County prosecutors and faces a criminal trial in august. She has spearheaded the socalled porn gate investigation after a series of lewd and inappropriate emails discovered on state computers. A final report was supposed to be released this week but has been delayed raising suspicions about its findings. Kane will only say the report does confirm evidence of government impropriety. When you have government officials whether theyre judges prosecutors or Defense Attorneys or Law Enforcement personnel and they are looking at such misogynistic emails you cant have that. Reporter yet, with less than seven months left in office, kane says shes in some ways looking forward to leaving the political arena and spending more time with her two teenaged sons who have both been affected, she says, by the professional turmoil. I think its been difficult on them. Ive heard about some things happening at school for them. But theyve handled it and im proud of the strength there they have shown. Reporter and kane says she wants to show that shes not shying away from doing her job, of fighting crime and corruption despite the scandals. Her one regret, though, not realizing that her biggest obstacles would come from within, combating her political opponents who she admits to definitely underestimating. When i thought i was going to fight the good old boys i sure did but i had no idea how rough and tumble they were going to be. Kathleen kanes term in office will officially end january 1st of next year. I asked her if she would ever consider running for another elected office one day. She told me she hasnt ruled it out but right now shes trying to focus more on the present than the future. Monica.
