After Advocacy Group fliers rights challenged the faa saying cramped planes planes are a safety hazard and the government needs to do something about it. It does not appear that people can get out with the smaller seats. Most recently there was an evacuation for a burning engine in an aircraft and it took about five minutes instead of 90 seconds. Reporter according to fliers rights, seat widths have decreased about an inch and a half since the early 2000s measuring up to 17inches. The space between seats has also decreased going from an average of 35inches to about 31 with some bargain airlines having just 28inches of leg room. Thats almost inhumane. It ought to change. The new evidence of safety gives the faa the opportunity to look into this.
