Reporter police say miguel colon ran over alicea and his mother Josephine Rivera at lehigh and mascher. Investigator say colon was driving a friends 2006 infiniti with his brother when they smashed into the two at a high rate of speed. The owner of the car went to police shortly after learning about the accident but police had to build their case. These investigations are very difficult proving somebody was driving a vehicle. There was two people in the car at the time so we had a little difficulty in proving the fact that he may have been driving. So, it just took some extra investigation. Reporter an arrest warrant was issued for colon who remains on the run. Aliceas mother has recovered from the injuries but the emotional scars will be lasting. The family and police have message for colon. Turn yourself in. You ran the first time. You should have stopped the first time. Leaving my babies out like road kill, you know, man up. Man up. Reporter and police say colon likes to frequent the kensington area especially the area of wishart and front and investigators also want the public to know this. There is a 20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of colon. Im live in brewerytown, chad pradelli, channel6 action news. Thank you, chad. The runner who was struck and killed by a truck yesterday in southampton Burlington County was a middle schoolteacher. 29yearold Allison Mcginnis taught english and Language Arts at Helen Fort Middle School in pemberton township. She was running on route 206 at 2 oclock yesterday when she was hit. The truck then struck trees and overturned. 31yearold david eldridge, the passenger in the truck was also killed. The driver, Patrick Miller was flown to Cooper University hospital for treatment. A former Pennsylvania State Police Firearms instructor will spend two weeks in jail for accidentally shooting and killing a colleague. A Montgomery County judge also sentenced richard schrete to three to eight months of house arrest. 26yearold trooper david kedra was killed when schroders gun went off in a Training Session at Plymouth Township Police last september. A chemical leak at a delaware refinery sent three people to the hospital today. The incident happened at noon at pbf energy in delaware city. All three were dee contaminated on site and taken to the hospital as a precaution. This is the same refinery where a fire broke out last friday. Investigators say a problem with a chemical reactor sparked the flames. Fortunately nobody was hurt in that incident. We have seen mostly sunny skies today and were in for a beautiful late august evening. But warm temperatures will try to make a comeback this weekend and beyond. Lets go live to meteorologist cecily tynan with the late word from accuweather. Cecily. Hi, jim, and its certainly beautiful out here. Weve got bright sunshine, comfortable temperatures. The past two days temperatures have been on the cool side but today its starting to feel like summer again. Philadelphia 85 degrees, a high thats 1 degree above normal. Wilmington also 85. Allentown 81, trenton 81, Sea Isle City 78 degrees. The last friday night of august is very comfortable. Its 83 degrees in philadelphia, wilmington and millville 81. Allentown 77. The boardwalk in Atlantic City with that sea breeze 76 degrees. This is part of the reason why it feels so nice. Dewpoints generally 60 degrees or below. That indicates a very dry air mass, not a lot of humidity in the air. However, that will be changing as we head through the weekend. By sunday the dewpoints will be in the low to mid 60s, so thats not oppressive but compared to today, it will be slightly humid. You will feel the difference in the air mass and also by sunday, philadelphia should be up around 90 degrees likely starting our next heat wave of the year. In the meantime, Tropical Storm erika has a huge hurdle to overcome. The mountains of the Dominican Republic. How does a threeyearold boy decide to leave his Daycare Center, cross a busy street and then arrive back home . By himself. Well, thats exactly what the boys mother wants to know. New jersey correspondent Nora Muchanic has the story from hamilton township. Its scary. I still cant believe it happened. Reporter shes still steaming. At 7 20 thursday morning she dropped off her threeyearold son dario at the kinder world center on hamilton avenue in hamilton. Imagine her surprise when a half hour later her daughter called saying that dario was back home knocking on the back door in tears. You just decided you wanted to leave . Why did you leave school. Reporter dario says he wanted to walk home. To do that he had to cross busy hamilton avenue to walk a block and a half to his house. Furious ortiz called the Daycare Center director. Just apologized and said it would never happen again emand you said . I know it wont because hes not coming back. Reporter she reported the incident to Hamilton Police and the department of children and families which sent an investigators to the site today. We attempted to get a comment but no one returned our call or answered the door. Some relatives making pickups are upset. Its horrible any child can get out of there. That means anyone can get out. Somebody could have picked him up, taken him. Thats not good. Get their stuff together. Its just not right that any kid could just walk out the School Without being noticed. Reporter hamilton avenue is a busy thorofare especially at rush hour. Darios mother and others say its a miracle he crossed this street without being hit. I dont know how the boy got out and walked across the street without anybody watching him, cars stopping because its so busy. Reporter his mother is trying to find another Daycare Center for dario. In hamilton, im Nora Muchanic, channel6 action news. Prek advocates are calling on Governor Tom Wolf and pennsylvania lawmakers to pass a state budget. If not they say classrooms like this one at play and learn in royersford will sit empty when the school years begins. Without funding from the state, prek providers must decide whether to remain closed or seek bridge financing to pay the bills until a budget is passed. Democratic senator tom carper of delaware has officially announced that he is backing president obamas nuclear deal with iran. Carper is the 30th senator to do so. The agreement seeks to keep iran from building a nuclear bomb in exchange for International Sanctions relief. Carper says the deal is a good one for america. At the end of the day, the regime, well know, well know and were in a position as one nation, the United States to reimpose the full range of economic sanctions that have brought the iranians to their knees. Critics say the agreement makes too many concessions and will eventually allow for a Nuclear Armed iran. A vote on the deal is set for next month in washington. Montgomery county is asking the Pennsylvania National guard to help with traffic and security when the pope comes to visit. Remember francis will be staying on the Montgomery County side of city avenue at the seminary. Action News Reporter john rawlins has the story. Reporter during his visit the pope will be staying overnight at the sprawling seminary in lower merion Montgomery County plans to use some of the requested guardsmen to deal with possible traffic snarls here and elsewhere in the county. Its also requesting guard helicopters to survey the traffic and if need be, transport critical First Responders says director of Public Safety tom sullivan. The bomb squad for suspicious package or hazmat teams, well have the same issues facing traffic as the motorists will so if we need those teams someplace for any event that weekend we want to be able to move them into preestablished loading zones. Another request behind the 600 guardsmen the Schuylkill River trail a largely paved thruway for bike riders and walkers from Montgomery County to the city. Regular riders say getting from, say, norristown to the parkway a snap. Yeah, i mean, if i was going to come down to the city, i think the Schuylkill River trail would be the way to go. The plan with flashlights in their hands they will guide and protect. The National Guard is an excellent tool to use for that. We already have established communications with them and our plan is to position them at intervals along the trail systems. Reporter a spokesman for the National Guard said no decision has been made yet about Montgomery Countys request for either helicopters or 600 personnel.
