Erika has already brought heavy winds and inches of rain to the caribbean. At least 12 people are dead in dominica and more than 20 others are missing. That storm is expected to hit the Dominican Republic haiti and the bahamas before reaching florida on monday. Of course were keeping an eye on erika but also looking ahead to what should be a nice weekend here at home. Yeah, nice and hot. Meteorologist adam Joseph Standing by live at the big board. Adam first though the latest track on that storm erika. Erika has a lost heavy rain, tropical rains in the caribbean but with respect to the winds, it is a very disorganized storm at the present time. The center of erika is right about here and you can see all of the storms are on the eastern side of that sent. It is encounter something very strong wind shear, that is very strong winds in there upper levels moving from the west to the east ripping erika apart and thats why she really hasnt strengthened since she was a named storm early on this week. Also, the track will take it right over the Dominican Republic and over the Dominican Republic you have mountains that are 10,000 feet high. The tall of the mountains in all of the caribbean, so as erika passes by over those mountains that will also help to prevent erika from strengthening over the weekend. Then it heads towards cube barks the turks and caicos encountering moreland there, the wind shear so you can see the winds do in the really change. If not it could weaken some as it passes by cuba. Erika will hit southern florida possibly monday morning as a weak Tropical Storm not a hurricane and carve its way through central florida. If erika stays as a very weak Tropical Storm and it brings rain to south western florida, that is going to be a good thing because they have a drought and desperately need some soaking rain that erika could bring. Back at home, though, 80 degrees in allentown, reading and trenton. A very comfortable day. 83 in millville. And upper 70s at the shore and in that full accuweather forecast, well talk about the humidity increasing along with those temperatures into the 90s with another heat wave on the way. John rawlins is live in conshohocken with more on Montgomery Countys plans and john, this involves hundreds of National Guardsmen. Reporter hi, alicia. 600 to be exact here from Montgomery County, thats the request. Its not clear if theyre going to get all the guardsmen theyre asking for. Among the plans here to use some of those guardsmen to deploy along this popular biking and walking path, the Schuylkill River trail. The pope will be staying in Montgomery County at the Saint Charles borromeo seminary. The plan to use National Guard troops to help with expected traffic there as well as other roads that feed the eastbound expressway which will be closed. We certainly anticipate the side roads to be quickly clogged. We have plans in place to expedite movement of cars and open up traffic should we need them for emergency vehicles. Reporter tom sullivan says the county is also asking for guard helicopters to survey the traffic and if need be transport critical first responders. Whether its a bomb squad for a suspicious package or hazmat teams, well have the same issues facing traffic as the motorists will so if we need those teams someplace for any event that weekend we want to be able to move them in. Reporter another focus the Schuylkill River trail, the thinking many will use it to cycle to walk to see the pope. The owner of this bike shop already thinking. Were a bike rental place. Our thought was lets get them interested in the idea of hey lets ride in, well make a weekends event out of it. Reporter returning pilgrims will likely be traveling after dark. Thats where the guard comes n uniformed personnel with flashlights would guide and protect. Many peddling today thought biking to the pope a good idea but some wondered about congestion and parking. I dont know if i would do it. Reporter why. I would probably watch it on tv honestly. Reporter well, Montgomery Countys request for 600 a fraction of the requests for the entire region. Were told that tops 5,000 or at least it did at one point. Multiple officials today said, though, this is not some sort of marshall law situation or potential marshall law situation forming here. The primary deployment will be for Traffic Control because of so many roads being closed. Theyre expecting traffic problems and that is the situation in which theyre hoping the National Guard can help them as they stretch the limits of all the Police Departments that will be involved. Live in conshohocken, john rawlins channel6 action news. Alicia. So many roads and so many people coming to town. John, thank you. Yeah, friday afternoon, matt pelman live in the action News Traffic Center with anup day. Hi there, matt. Reporter second to last friday afternoon in the summer time. Unofficially. Whos counting . You. I guess i am. These friday afternoons can be a little rough. After labor day they get at least a little bit better but this one is looking very busy brian and alicia. Live at the schuylkill expressway, the eastbound lanes right by the blue route definitely slow going. We had an earlier crash this afternoon on the eastbound side by the conshohocken curve. Thats long gone but got us off to a bad start here along 76. Westbound travel time even a little bit slower from the vine out to this point at the blue route. On the big picture, of course 95 doesnt let us down. It has plenty of slow speeds as well, 19 Miles Per Hour northbound by girard avenue. 18 then as you pass the betsy ross bridge anded up towards the work zone at cottman avenue. Close to Villanova University watch out for a motorcycle crash this afternoon along county line road at i think than avenue. One in Plymouth Meeting along Germantown Pike close to 476 right by plymouth road which by the way reopened yesterday so go ahead and use that this afternoon. But if youre out bowne in bellmawr starting at 9 00 tonight and then lasting all weekend long, you dont want to use you wont be able to use the ramp from the black horse pike, 168 southbound to 295 southbound. That ramp is closing all weekend for construction. You may want to get on the southbound side of 295 from the white horse pike instead. On 295 southbound, speeds just in the 20s this afternoon. Lets grab the ipad to the commuter report on this finally friday afternooner were we are just getting reports of a crash at the walt whitman bridge into new jersey, bad time for that coming in with the waze app and you can see 7 Miles Per Hour on the approach to the bridge there on the eastbound side of the schuylkill expressway. About the worst possible time for. That well check this situation and the others in the next half hour. Matt thanks very much. Speaking of that accident, chopper six is in fact just arrived over the scene of the accident that matt just mentioned, this on the walt whitman bridge heading into new jersey from the philadelphia side. The accident reported again in the eastbound lanes. No word on injuries just yet but you can see that car is flipped over. Thats blocking two of the three lanes there. Its two of perhaps four lanes on the span. There is the fire truck and several Police Officers on the scene. Again, that car flipped over blocking two lanes eastbound on the walt whitman bridge. So, make sure to plan for that if if your evening commute takes you in that direction on this friday evening. So much more to come today. More fallout from the Ashley Madison hack. The head of that company that owns the web site made a big announcement today. Plus, the latest on the tv news crew killed on the air. It was all cheers for the 22yearold army National Guard specialist and tears and hugs from his parents as you can see, this just one week after what was supposed to be a european vacation for three childhood friends took a turn while on a train from amsterdam to paris a man appeared armed with an ak47. Skarlatos and his friends becoming International Heroes for tackling the terrorists. In an exclusive interview with abc news skarlatos says both his gut and his training kicked in. We didnt have a conscious thought for the whole first two minutes so it was just pretty much a gut reaction. We were just acting on adrenaline and doing what we had to do to survive. Training kind of kicked in after he was already down. Spencer started providing medical care on mark who was shot through the neck and i grabbed the ak and looked through the other train cars in case there was anybody else.
