Right now youre still dealing with what could be more than several days of septa troubles. Yeah, and same with the Regional Rails. If youre going to ride do it earl if you can because thats when the trains seem to be not so packed come 7 oclock we start to see the overcrowding, we start to see the delays, so if you can, get out early. We are on these new schedules as of yesterday. Theyre being called enhanced saturday specials in most cases. Thats a weekend schedule with a couple extra trains added during the rush hours. On four lines the airport, warminster, Chestnut Hill west and fox chase, youre on strictly a saturday schedule so thats a lot less service than a normal weekday schedule and thats why were seeing that crowding. Kin woods line is shuttle busing, not run wag so far, so again, if you can, you want to think other modes of transportation. Even on septa theyve beefed up service on the norristown high speedline, 101 and 102 trolleys the subways. If you can driver to one of those subway stations like fern rock and at t, you can park at the Old Navy Hospital and then walk over to the station, that would abgood idea. Our big traffic story this morning is on the new jersey turnpike. Its a crash northbound north of exit four in mount laurel. Couple lanes blocked. Slow speeds. Head for 295 northbound instead. Matt. Thank you, matt. We begin with breaking news here. Police say a 14yearold girl was shot as she and her friends played with a gun. The action cam is live where this happened in the citys germantown section eastwood lawn street. Firefighters were called in to help officers search for a weapon on the roof and that is where they located a rifle and a handgun right up there. Police say they know who pulled the trigger. That person is not there but is known to be an acquaintance of the victim. The teenaged girl is in the hospital in critical condition. Police are calling this a terrible accident. Just hours earlier, another teen was slot in another philadelphia neighborhood. It happened as an angry driver sent a gunman into a crowded street firing at will. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live at east detectives with that story. Annie. Reporter and matt, Police Believe that it was a stray bullet that hit that 13yearold in the leg. They say that adults and children were playing in the block when at the time a man did open fire. They say earlier there was a road rage incident on that block and they believe that the two incidents are related. Well, take a look at this video. This is video from the scene. Police say it happened around midnight in the 4300 block of north darien street in hunting park. A 13yearold was shot in the leg around 11 30 a woman pulled up in a car and almost hit the kids and adults arent that playing in the street. Police say that they were ranging in ages from two to 20 years old. Now, there was an argument between the female driver and the and people on the street. A short time later, she returned with a passenger, a male who was armed with a gun. After the argument, that vehicle left, went south on darien. About five or 10 minutes later that same vehicle returned to the block, this time with a male in the passenger seat. When the vehicle stopped at the intersection of bristol and darien, the front seat passenger, the male reportedly exited the vehicle and began firing shots north on darien street, just firing. Reporter and police say that that man fired multiple shots. In fact, they found about eight shell casings at the scene. Now, the 13yearold that was shot in the leg is in stable condition. He was transported to Saint Christophers Hospital by his parents. At this hour police are still looking for the vehicle that was involved in that shooting. They say its a white sedan possibly an older model honda. If you have any information, you are urged to contact police. Developing overnight as many as 40 shots were fired at a car in the city of chester, some of them struck the driver. This happened at 12th and chestnut streets at 1 00 a. M. You can clearly see some of the bullets shattered windows there. Police say it appears the victim was trying to get to the ramp for i95 northbound when someone opened fire. There is no word on his condition or what led to the shooting. Septa riders are getting used to the new normal after the first full workday with limited service. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is checking out this mornings commute at the glenside station in montgomery county. Good morning, katherine. Reporter good morning, erin. Weve seen three inbound trains come through this morning about 35 minutes apart. It certainly pays to be early. Those passengers had no trouble getting on board the train and here in glenside you can see that the platform is already starting to fill up again for the next train, but its relatively quiet. But lets go to video from yesterday evenings commute in glenside. This train was standing room only. Some even stood in between the cars. Yesterday quite a few people showed up to the stations unaware that septa was down a third of its Regional Rail fleet due to structural defects in the trains. 13,000 fewer Seats Available to riders. Septa had to down size their schedule and that translated into crowded cars, long waits on the platform and delays. In some cases, overcrowded trains will to bypass stations. There was simply no more room. Septa is hoping people look for alternatives to the Regional Rail. Estimating only about a thousand people did yesterday. Septa says today could be a little worse than yesterday with people coming back from an extended holiday weekend. Heres what one man told us today on his first day back. Ive been listening to the news yesterday coming home from the shore. Reporter one alternative that few people used yesterday were parking lots in south philadelphia that you can drive to and then walk to the subway, but whether its that, whether its another mode of transportation on septas routes, whether its uber, whatever it is, try to find an alternative thats going to ease the overcrowding and of course this is a problem there could last into august. And a couple of the left lanes are blocked so as we pull in the commuter report, you can see the sort of speeds were dealing with. Just 6 Miles Per Hour on this sixth day of the month. Usually we like the number six. Not sure that we do in this case. Id stay over on northbound 295 as you travel through Burlington County instead of the northbound turnpike this morning. Meanwhile overnight here hammonton had some construction along 322 the black horse pike. That should be out of there in about 15 minutes. And overnight construction that was out here on 422 in the eastbound direction that blocked the offramp to first avenue has cleared. They will close that ramp from eastbound 422 to first avenue again tonight starting around 10 oclock. Right now no eastbound delays but if you travel 422 just west of pottstown beware theres a new traffic pattern this morning. They shifted westbound traffic between 100 and stow onto the newly built bridge over the Schuylkill River during the overnight hours so things are going to look a little different there and then tonight starting at 9 oclock, theyll shift to eastbound traffic so the eastbound lanes will close starting at 9 00 tonight. Also a couple of closures in delaware. Last week they started to close falk road. Thats staying closed for a couple months. Marsh will get you around that. In claymont route 13 philadelphia pike is now shut down. Thats lasting until midnight on saturday for some Railroad Crossing work. Instead of 13 philadelphia pike i would stay over on 95 or even 495 as some alternates. Matt. Thank you, matt. Breaking right now, a South African judge has just sentenced olympic runner Oscar Pistorius to six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend. The announcement just came this morning. Pistorius was convicted of manslaughter in the 2013 shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp and served one were in jail. The conviction was overturned and he was later convicted of murder. Pistorius lawyers will now decide whether to appeal the sentence. A Mississippi Police chief has an unorthodox method of maintaining law and order.
