Welcome back. Our partners at Coldwell Banker are back with their annual home listing report. It breaks down the priciest and most Affordable Housing markets in the country. Take a look. The home listing report is a report released annually by Coldwell Banker real estate, which is the most extensive report available in the industry, because it compares home prices across 2,700 different markets. On the most expensive side of the survey, what we found is that over half of the markets were located in the state of california, and the most expensive market in the survey this year was Newport Beach with an average listing price of a four bedroom, two bath home at 2. 3 million. In the most affordable market in the country for the third year in a row was cleveland, ohio, where an average price for a four bedroom, two bath home was 74,500. This is an Incredible Community was a lot of things going on at this present time, but still remarkably affordable. But one of the great surprises is how the survey really speaks to the concept of affordability. Prices are rising, lots of focus on those markets like San Francisco and new york, where prices are really escalating rapidly. But within our survey, there were 1,600 markets where the average price of a four bedroom, two bath home was under 300,000. And this is an aspirational home, not a starter home, so the affordability remains. Well, i think what it speaks to is that after several years of continued housing recovery, individuals, consumers, buyers need to really focus less on the headlines overall and understand that real estate is going back to the basics. Its hyper local, and the fact that within every market youll find a variety of different opportunities in terms of price levels and the fact that housing is all about lifestyle. Well, the home listing report is a phenomenal sources of information for individuals to be able to compare apples to apples and make an intelligent decision and look beyond the overall market price for a metro area and understand that sometimes just even a short commute can make all the difference in the world in terms of what is available in their price range. You can go to hlr. Coldwellbanker. Com for information on all the 2,700 different markets within our survey, as well as great information for individuals who are in the market to buy at this time. Stay right here. Up next, cheryl eisen shares some inspiring holiday decorating ideas. Cheryl an appetizing holiday feast begins with a really well designed dining room. Even the foods in on the color scheme. Well be right back. Announcer open house is brought you in part by Coldwell Banker, where home begins. Avoiding the cliches of holiday decor can be a challenge. Well, stager and designer cheryl eisen has a few ideas, and it begins with that oft forgotten rule, keep it simple. She shows us how she created a fun and festive vibe that proves simple doesnt have to be boring. Hi, im cheryl eisen of interior marketing group, a luxury home staging firm in new york. When decorating your home for the holidays, why limit your holiday decor to the cliche of just green and red . Today, im gonna show you how to create an incredibly decor for the holidays by using just one unexpected color in each room. The color i chose for the entryway is gold. It sets a warm and festive tone the moment you enter the home. Creating different planes using a cake plate, different sized candles, different sized glasses creates an interesting visual. I wrapped the room in grass cloth. It has a reflective tinsel to it that really complements the world. Even the beige chair looks gold, because neutrals take on the dominant color in the room. Gold always conjures feelings of luxury, prosperity, and tradition. In that way, its the perfect color for a festive holiday house. Here in the living room, the dominant color i decided to design with is white. I chose white because its not distracting. It just feeds into the background. I use varying shades of white to create visual interest and depth in the room. The name of the game for decorating in a living room is keeping it warm and inviting. I do that by keeping the functional areas very clean and minimal. But minimal doesnt mean it has to be boring. On the table, for example, i used a big mirror as a tray. For visual interest, the candles here are varying heights, and i even put them on a cake plate to create more height. Another little touch i did was to wrap the sofa pillows in white fabric. Its easy to do. Its just like wrapping a present, and it mirrors whats under the tree. Obviously, major decorations for the holidays are things like Christmas Trees and wreathes, but its important to keep them interesting and personal. Different shades of white are all over this area. For example, we used white pine cones, white flowers, white seashells. I even found these beige baby booties to go with the classic white ornaments. An appetizing holiday feast begins with a really well designed dining room. The color i chose for this room is blue. I used different shades of blue from the plates to the cupcakes, to the glasses. I also used mismatched plates to make sure that the table doesnt look like a set. It just keeps things more exciting, and interesting, and authentic. Even the foods in on the color scheme. I have blue cupcakes, white cupcakes with blueberries, even a blue martini. Even in the tree, i stuck to the blue theme by using blue trim, ornaments, and flowers. Against this white tree, they really pop and make a statement, and unify the overall theme. Now you see that a festive holiday decor doesnt need to have a chaotic combination of color. So choose a color that means something to you, and mix it up by using different shades, textures, and heights to keep it interesting. Happy holidays. Still ahead on open house, see why this connecticut home makes a colorful statement. The whole space was just very dreary. So to make it brighter, we decided to use a fun color and have it lacquered on the wall. The shimmer helps to catch the light. Garden party for her birthday. A fabulous so i mowed the lawn, put up all the decorations. I thought i got everything. Almost everything you know, 1 in 10 houses could get hit by a septic disaster, and a bill of up to 13,000. Now were heading to weston, connecticut to check out one of the latest interior Design Projects by guillaume gentet. This decor is whimsical, unconventional, and chic, all wrapped in a sparkly bow. Hello, my name is guillaume gentet, and im an interior designer in new york city. And here we are in weston, connecticut. My clients came from the city. We moved into a house that was very traditional, and we decided to make it up to date and make it more fun for them and their young family. So coming into a round foyer, i wanted to take the attention to the floor first. Since we had a circular space, i wanted to go the opposite and create a stripe effect into the floor just to bring another drama, and then make your way up. Since my clients had this huge collection of murano glass, i decided to create cubbies, boxes where we could show off all the artwork and all the glasswork. So the walls were done in a combing effect, and on top of it, we put some mica finish to make it shimmering. So pretty much, the walls have the same shimmer and reflective effect as the murano glass. The office, we kept all the structure the same. It was just a very dark mahogany. The whole space was just very dreary. So to make it brighter. We decided to use the a fun color and have it lacquered on the wall. The shimmer helps to capture the light. The border above, its called eglomise. Its a technique where you paint behind clear glass, and it becomes like a mirror. I wanted to do something that was just a little bit more neutral, so we used all the white murano glass, and some things that were just a little lighter, white full furs, and the white desk. So for a working environment like that, uses bright colors. Use white accent. Itll just make the space much more pleasant to be in. And the living room, i started with the pink sofa. Pink is my signature color. So we used this beautiful pink velvet, and the colors just took on from there. I used more purple lavenders to go along with the pink. We put the roman shade about a foot above the actual height of the window, and then we finished with vertical drapes. The actual windows are much shorter behind. Thats a good trick to fool the eye and give you the impression that the room is taller. In the dining room, i wanted to create a contrast with the colors by bringing everything down to blue. The owner had the four lucite vases that were for a pedestal. I reused the four of them, and it became the base of the dining room table. When it was time to look for chandeliers for the client, i wanted to tie them with their collection of murano glass. And because they were so important, i wanted the pieces to be as important. Here, we are in the master bedroom. And the client wanted a canopy bed. But instead of doing the traditional canopy bed with the four posts that are all matching, we made one big post and had it cut in four pieces. What i wanted to create was a modern take on the moroccan bed with the canopy, and the silver, the metallics, and all the prints and pillows inside. So the bed being the centerpiece, we took on more reflective pieces with the big antique mirror, crystal beads, wallpaper inside the cabinet, and also the reverse painted glass on the mantle of the fireplace. Its hard to tell, but theres also crushed glitter onto the walls. If you look at it closely, close to the light, youll see a lot of shimmer coming out. So by using the bright colors, the reflective elements really makes it young and fun, and makes it easy to live with. Well, i hope you enjoyed the tour, and i hope all the small tips are going to be useful for your future decorating projects. And dont be afraid of colors. Just have fun. Its only decoration. Were not done yet. Still ahead, design tips and inspiration from dcbased interior designer zoe feldman. Im gonna to show you how you can use very basic Design Elements to make any space more modern, chic, and even a bit edgy. Welcome back to open house. Now were heading to georgetown for our final stop, where interior designer zoe feldman shows us how she infused a youthful, edgy style into her clients otherwise traditional townhouse. She shows us how color, texture, and the right accessories can turn a classic space into an ultra chic pad. Hi, im interior designer zoe feldman, and welcome to washington, dc. Today, were gonna have a look at a beautiful victorian style townhouse that i designed. I believe good design always has an element of tension. In this case, we had a classic georgetown townhouse and a client who wanted to modernize to make it feel a bit more relevant and a bit younger. Im gonna show you how you can use very basic Design Elements to make any space more modern, chic, and even a bit edgy. So lets have a look. This is the gallery. Its the first thing you see when you walk into the house, and serves as a bridge between the living room and the dining room. I always like to create a big visual impact right away. It gets people excited for whats to come and entices them to want to see the rest of the home. In this case, we reupholstered a very portable vintage bench in this vibrant yellow. I love to add unexpected color that doesnt necessarily show up again in the house, but doesnt also compete with the room. Its a great way to add some personality and punch. I also love a large console. It provides a great opportunity to showcase your personality, your objects youve collected over the years. We created interesting tension in the living room by combining classic silhouettes with a more monochromatic, textured pallet. One of the most important things to remember when designing your living room is the amount of people who can be seated in your dining room also need to be accommodated in the living room. One of the bigger challenges in this living room was its size. We wanted to accommodate the maximum amount of people, so we had to incorporate what we call occasional seating, like the bench seat over the radiator, and this ottoman thats on castors and can roll in and out of the room. I always like master bedrooms to be a bit softer, and maybe even a bit feminine, yet whimsical and playful. We found this great suzani bedding, and its natural bright colors kept it from feeling too traditional. Again, we used a lot of texture in the room. You enter the master suite through a vestibule that weve papered in this beautiful, organic grasscloth. I hope youve enjoyed seeing how you can easily blend traditional and modern elements to get a classically relative space. Thank you. Thats all for now. You can head to openhousetv. Com if you wanna see more of these amazing homes and design ideas. And if you need more inspiration for the holidays, heres a tip. If you put up a fake tree, but you really love that fresh Christmas Tree smell, put up some fresh garland on your mantle and around the house, and thatll do the trick. If you have a decorating hack, share it with us at open house tv. Well be back next week. Thanks for watching. She was very carefree, loving. She was amazing. I just cant tell you the feeling went through my mind. I couldnt think of anybody that would ever want to do what they did to her. Amyjane was an angel. Traveling the world with her church to help children. We loved amy. They loved amy so much. But back home something sinister lay waiting. It was a pretty horrific crime scene. A bright young life snuffed out. Who would do that . It doesnt make any sense at all. Months later a mom out for a walk vanishes. Karens gone. I dont know where she is. I just cried. One murder, one disappearance in the same small town. But soon police would discover a creepier connection. One of the detectives had gotten his hands on an image of Amyjane Brandhagen and karen lang together. Oh, my god. The dead teenager and the missing mom arm in arm. In that moment most of us knew that that wasnt coincidence. Was someone stalking the women of this tightknit church . This sounds more like a zodiactype killer. Absolutely. A race to connect the dots revealing a truth darker than anyone imagined. I dont get that. I mean, its just evil. Im lester holt. And this is dateline. Heres Keith Morrison with someone was out there. There are children born into this world for whom the dance never ends. For whom joy seems uncontained. For whom exuberance is uncontainable. Amyjane. What are we doing right now . Were riding on the roof of a car. There was this young woman, a sprite really in a young womans body who loved adventure and people and who danced to music no one else could hear. Which is why it haunted me. This case haunted me. Haunted the police. Haunted the whole town. Is there a serial killer around . A serial killer with plans for two women in one particular church in one particular photograph . I was like this is insane and Everybody Needs to find this person. Yes. But it began with that girl, that sprite. Just the freest spirit that you could think of. Like literally not having a care in the world. Kate cook is talking about her friend and fellow missionary Amyjane Brandhagen. Talking about her now that its happened, that its all over. Kate and amyjane went to india and nepal together back in 2012. Small town girls, kate from wisconsin, amyjane from oregon. Shes always ready to give and pour her heart out to people and just give everything she had to offer. They were there three months for something called youths with a mission. Or ywam for short. Like tourists they went to the taj mahal. Like preachers, they spread the word. To children, mostly. For whom amyjane was magnetic, irresistible. They would see her and run up and say the word that means sister, sister. So excited. When the threemonth mission trip was over. She hated it. She was like i dont want to go home. Home for amyjane was a universe away from vibrant teeming india. Here it is. Pendleton. Safely tucked into a small valley on the vast rolling flanks of eastern oregon. Cowboy country. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the pendleton roundup home to one of the nations biggest rodeos, the pendleton roundup, which each september celebrates the towns rough and tumble past as a brawling and bordellofilled cow town. And then good conservative citizens wave goodbye to the parting cowboys and settle into a safe and predictable life and fill the pews every sunday morning without fail. People like bill caldera, who was like family to amyjane and her parents, jim and kathy brandhagen. They brought amyjane home when she was three days old. And they brought her home. Bill and knew the remarkable little girl from the very beginning. You watched amyjane grow up. Yes. And saw what sort of girl emerge . She is very carefree, loving, didnt know a stranger. The brandhagens asked bill to speak for them after what happened when they sorely needed their Church Family at pendleton free methodist. Like youth minister jeff hummel and his wife lisa who encountered the dancing sprite when she was in middle school. If she got the feeling that you were left out, shed find you and make sure that you knew you had a friend. Little bit like pippi longstocking. I always remember she knew everyones name. She was just fun. One year when she was far away in india, the people who loved amyjane worried a lot. And didnt breathe easy until she returned home to the safety and security of pendleton. Where she was waiting for god to tell her what to do next. Whether it was going to be to travel the world or go back or go to school. She wanted more freedom too, so she moved out of her parents house and got herself a little apartment in downtown pendleton. Worked two jobs to pay for it including a job cleaning motel rooms at the travelodge across from city hall. She was excited to get this other job, but she wasnt so sure about working at the hotel. She was a little nervous about it. After all shed never done that sort of thing before, or answered to a boss who this one sounded gruff. But she went. And she scoured and scrubbed those little rooms that looked out on downtown pendleton. And then it was august 14th, 2012. 911, what is your emergency . I am calling from travelodge, theres a girl dead in the bathroom. I dont know. A girl dead in the bathroom . I think shes passed out. Okay. Im going to get the police and ambulance headed that way, okay . In his office down the hall from the 911 operator, bill caldera listened and felt the dread flood in. Just gave me a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was not good about this call. Bill, r
