The ravens and the nfl claim theyve never seen it until this morning. Soon after, the ravens released rice from his contract and the nfl suspended him indefinitely. Carol maloney is here with new reaction from the ravens and the mounting criticism for the nfl. There, there were a number of questions tonight if there was an nfl coverup, or if it was incompetence. Ray rice was suspended for two games. But the new video today, showed what happened inside the elevator, and it did not take long for the ravens to change the punishment. Coach John Harbaugh addressed the media tonight. Its something we saw for the first time today, you know, all of us. And it changed things, of course. It made things a little bit different. You said it changed for you. How did it change after seeing it . I dont know if i want to get into all the details about it. I think its pretty obvious. And pretty apparent. Everyones seen the video. Well leave it at that. Meantime the league is now under scrutiny on how they failed to view the video until now. We need to warn you that it is quite disturbing. The video shows right and his then fiance, now wife, janay palmer, entering an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. Rice punches palmer in the face twice, knocking her unconscious. Hes later seen dragging her into the hallway. Harbaugh declined to respond about whether he was misled by rice. His locker room reacted with shock and sadness. Thank you. Coalition against Domestic Violence is a safe haven for victims. The organization educates and helps women find shelters. She said the ray rice controversy has brought the issue to the national spotlight. 1 in 4 women across the nation are impacted by Domestic Violence each day. Here in the district, 30,000 Domestic Violence calls to the police every year, one every 17 minutes. The nfl initially suspended right for two games. Today came the news that three families have been waiting a long time for. One for more than a decade. A suspect finally charged in three high profile murder cases in alexandria. Today Police Confirmed that that suspect is Charles Severance, the man theyve been investigating since his arrest on an unrelated gun charge six months ago. Jackie bensen is in the neighborhood where one of the murders took place. This is a dramatic development. Reporter three unsolved murders. Nancy dunning in 2003, rob kirby in november of 2013, and ruth an lodado in february of this year. An indictment now formally names 53yearold Charles Severance as a suspect in the shocking crimes. In each case, the victim was shot after answering a knock at the front door. But police refused to detail the evidence against severance, an odd man who once ran for mayor of alexandria. The cases and the quality of the evidence, i really cant comment on. Reporter after the police press conference, members of nancy dunnings family spoke briefly to reporters. Nothing can bring her back. Were hopeful that todays indictment is the beginning of a process that will offer our family and the other affected families some small amount of closure. Dunnings husband was alexandrias sher ifr at the time of her death. He died of Natural Causes in 2012. At that time, police said he had never been cleared as a possible suspect in his wifes murder. The police department, theyre experts, professional, dedicated, committed, and they continue to work not only that case, but they worked expeditiously on the two recent cases. Department of corrections official. He lives in the building next door to crosss. Another woman in the building said shed seen him staring at women in the gym. Police arrested her last month, but the investigation is continuing. Police say scammers are using stolen pay pal mastercards at several businesses along georgia avenue, sometimes making off with thousands of dollars in merchandise. Theyre exploiting a feature on the cards that allows offline transactions without the cards being activated. She was detained and transported to the hospital center. When the subject claims theyre having suicidal thoughts or makes threats to another person, we can transfer them to the hospital for service, but thats all the authority we have. Theyre working closely with local Law Enforcement on the criminal investigation into this terrible tragedy. Seventh graders in Montgomery County will be kept out of School Starting next week, if they dont show proof theyve met new immunization irmts. News 4 has learned the school still needs proof from thousands of students. Whats being done to keep them from being sent home now. Thousands of students here in Montgomery County could be forced to stay home monday if they dont get these required shots. Did your child get these shots . Yes, she did. Rose has a seventh grader in middle school and made sure her daughter got the vaccines . Most of the Health Care Providers are making sure that kids do get their immunization. But between 2 and 3,000 seventh graders still havent got the shots which protect them from whooping cough, meningitis and other illnesses. Just please get it done. The doctor says the vaccines are for the safety of everyone. Its a new requirement this year. Maybe parents have neglected all the information thats been coming out all year long about this new state requirement. Or they may have had it done, but they dont have the documentation we must have. School officials have been doing a lot to get the word out, starting tuesday, free shot clinics will be offered in the evenings at several county middle schools. They could be kept out of school. They have to go home until they have the requirements met. We work with parents, we want kids in the school. School Officials Say theyll do everything they can to work with parents to make sure students will be able to go into their schools on monday and not miss any time in the classroom.
