Angelina over here doing well in school but they noticed problems with vision. We want to make sure shes not nearsighted. Nearsightedness is one of the biggest problems that we have in the United States today in terms of kids and vision. Myopia is an error in the eye. Close objects appear clearly but distant objects appear blurry. An estimated 30 of the u. S. Population suffers from myopia. The exact kaumkpakexact causes t there is genetic components and there is Research Whether the scen computers and tablets and tons of near work they are doing and also after school, they are doing a lot of homework and using their near devices up close whether its a tablet or a phone. Dr. Andrew started tree house eyes in march land la and virginia to deal specifically with childhood myopia because they have seen an uptick in children. There is no conclusive evidence that links screen time with nearsightedness in children, he says it makes since it may interfere with longdistance vision. I think the kids arent getting outside enough and the lack of the outdoor sunlight and the lack of the outdoor targets, creates a strain for the distance vision and puts more demand on the near and thats what effectively is one of the theories. Were putting a lot of near demand on young kids at an early age and this is part of our society. The American Academy of pediatrics discourages screen time for children under the age of two and recommends no more than two hours of screen time daily over the age of two. In addition to straining young eyes, the academy says increased screen time can contribute to sleep and social disorders. It turns out angelina is near and farsighted and the best treatment will be monitoring vision and screen time as she continues to grow. She will also change her glasses prescriptions over time to accommodate her vision. And if myopia does run in the family, parents, you can watch your kids closely for signs and as the doctor said, doesnt hurt to send them outside to play. Imagine that. Imagine that.
