Chris . Yeah, were getting some new reaction, jim, to House Republicans plan. They will hold a News Conference tomorrow morning to lay out the details. But here is basically what weve learned so far. The two bills that are working their way through the house would repeal the fine for people who dont buy health insurance. But it would still impose a 30 surcharge if you have a gap in coverage. And to buy insurance, the legislation gives people tax credits of 2 to 4,000 based on their age. But it 75,000. Four republican senator threatened to vote against any bill that didnt protect lowincome people who are covered under obamacares medicaid expansion. The bill would preserve that for another three years. Democrats say you can expect to pay more for worse coverage. And tonight, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi tweeted, the gop plan makeamericasickagain will do massive damage to millions. Members cant vote on the bill until the Congressional Budget Office scores it, which will tell you say of us exactly what it will cost. At the live desk, chris lawrence. The Trump Administration rolled out the second edition of the travel ban executive order. The press secretary tweeted out this picture of President Trump signing the order. The original order, if youll recall, was halted by a federal court. Iraq is no longer included on the list of countries of banned travelers. It goes into effect in ten days. It blocks only people who did not have a valid visa as of january 27th. And it does not apply to green card holders. The changes obviously not enough for protesters outside the white house tonight. Again, that new ban does not go into effect until march 16th. With hundreds of employees planning to take the day off, alexandria is cancelling class this wednesday. Its International Womens day, and the organizers of the womens march on washington are calling for a day without women. They from work and school to demonstrate how important women are to the country. Alexandrias schools say their decision to close is not political. Dc and Fairfax County plan to be open. Prince georges county schools said they had no information to share. Dozens of rockville residents packed the City Council Chambers tonight for a public hearing on the role of the citys Police Department in immigration enforcement. News4s Jackie Bensen is live for us in rockville tonight where there was some sharp disagreement, jackie. Reporter jim, this the Council Chambers packed with passion and emotion. Our police force has the most important job in this city. They keep us safe. Reporter the dozens of people who signed up to testify packed the Rockville City Council hearing room and quickly outgrew the overflow room set up in a nearby conference room. At issue, the role of Rockville Police in enforcing immigration laws under the Trump Administration. A petition in favor of making rockville a formally declared sanctuary city now has more than a thousand signatures. No formal legislation has been proposed. President trump has proposed stripping funding from sanctuary cities. I heard third hand of a little girl who was afraid to go to school after the election because she was worried her parents would be deported by the time she got home from school. Herself as an owner of a business in rockville. I would sell my house immediately. Why . Because i know for sure the house value would go down and the property tax will go up. Detectives served a search warrant at his home in gaithersburg last month. They found a fake Baltimore County police badge in his car. Hes never worked for that department. Detectives also found a loaded handgun and Tactical Gear in the car, and nine dre Police Believe he may have represented himself as an officer in other cases. But offpeak rail service, originally up for cuts, will not be included. Metros board will give a preliminary vote thursday. A teen gang member is among the suspects linked to the abduction and murder of a maryland girl. News4 learned the boy began wearing a Court Ordered gps ankle bracelet four days before 15yearold Alexandra Reyes was killed. Her body was found in springfield last month. The news about the ankle bracelet raises a big question. How was that teenager able to commit a new crime while being monitored . Although Court Officials cant speak about the specific terms of supervision, they tell us there was no violation before the murder. I have no indication in this case that we have any dysfunction in the gps system. There was no formal violations filed with the court in the supervision of this case. The teen suspect was arrested earlier this month. Detectives say he admitted his role in the abduction. A total of ten people are the districts top cop tonight says hes focused on cracking down on crime in one community in southeast. Six people shot along wheeler road in a oneweek span. I dont like the fact that these shootings are happening right here on wheeler road. Reporter tonight, a councilmember organized a town hall meeting with the dc police chief. There have been six shootings in seven days near ecology academy. We should not be losing our young men to gun violence in our city. Video from one of the shootings. Police are looking for the car here. They believe the driver has information about a shooting that happened on february 23rd. Take a look at this camera angle. It captures two men walking to a store. We believe those two adult males have significant information about this shooting. Reporter police also released video related to another shooting, this one on the 4100 block of wheeler road. A black suv shows up at the top of your screen. Police are looking for the driver. The victims in both shootings refuse to cooperate with police. The chief says the Community Needs to help solve the shootings and people need to call police when they see illegal guns. Every single time that we have a young man thats killed in washington, dc, i see that picture, and a pieces i would like the guns to be taken off of the streets. Grimm is suing a school board in Gloucester County for the right to use the boys bathroom. He was born biologically female but identifies at male. Earlier on msnbc today he said he will continue to fight. Im as determined as ever to move forward and work through this process like i have been up to now. The lower court will now evaluate the federal law known as title 9. How do we get o it is something local districts have been wrestling with for years now, some even changing school start times. But several high schools in new mexico are taking a new approach. As nbcs katie beck explains, theyre letting kids get a quick snooze between classes.
