There are new concerns tonight about the terrorist group known as isis. The fbi has issued a warning about the terror group, trying to use western recruits to target current and former members of the military. Nbc news chief pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski joins us now live. Jim, thanks. And first of all, why are Service Members now being told to watch what they post online . First, i think, jim, its important to stress, this is not based on any immediate or specific threat against any u. S. Military personnel here in the United States or anywhere around the world. But because isis has been so aggressive in trying to recruit terrorists, self radicalized terrorists in other countries to go after targets here in the u. S. , the fbi and Homeland Security thought it was important to put out this warning to u. S. Military personnel and their families, just to be careful, be cautious, be walk aware of a potential threat when they post things online, facebook, twitter, that could give away a persons identity, location, family members, in an effort to keep them safe. Was this inspired in any way, jim, by what happened in canada to the Service Member there recently . Absolutely. In fact, in october when those two canadian soldiers were killed by two separate selfradicalized jihadists there in ottawa, the pentagon immediately put out a reminder to all u. S. Military personnel, much like the one from the fbi and Homeland Security, hey, use some common sense here, and what they call operational security. Dont let potential enemies know who you are and what youre doing. Finally, jim, does the advisory go in any way beyond the recommendation in terms of what to do online or what not to do . At this point, no. Of i mean, officials here acknowledge that its impossible to control every soldier, every sailors activity on social media, particularly their families. Theyre just putting out the best guidance possible in an attempt to keep them safe from any terrorist attack. All right. Thanks, jim. Jim miklaszewski, pentagon correspondent for nbc nightly news, which will go deeper into the isis warning coming up tonight at 7 00, right here on nbc 4. Detectives testified in court today at that he was waiting in the laundry room of cross Apartment Building when he heard her in the hall. They say he confronted her, he had with him, according to police, a wrench, duct tape and a plastic bag. They say he attacked her several times in her apartment, and when she was unconscious, police say he covered her head with a plastic bag and secured it with the duct tape. Police told the court later that afternoon, he called 911. They found him inside his apartment bloody. Officers say he tried to take his own life. At the hospital, police said he opened up. He said he did something bad today, officer james young testified. He said, i may have murdered a woman today. But why . Thats what cross dozen or so supporters want to know. Police said he told them he had gotten into a fight with miss mother. He said the next person that intimidates me is going to get it. Prosecutors say for some reason cross was that next person. Attorneys for him pointed out he was hearing voices around the time of cross murder. Its likely that could factor into their defense. Ultimately, the judge decided the case will move on to a grand jury, which is likely to meet sometime next week. In alexandria, im david culver, news4. Now to a symbolic tribute in honor of world aids day. The white house and other landmarks around the globe are draped in red ribbons to remember those who lost their battle to the disease and the ongoing fight to find a cure. Pretty scene at the white house. I see a lot of scenes a lot of reporters look like were unprepared for the cold rain. And i can understand why. It was so nice today. Well, and thats really what happened. You go outside on a day like today, you dont take your coat. No matter what the expert meteorologist said, it just seemed so nice. Thank you. Or what the app from storm team 4 says. Thats right. We have had some of the rain come in, colder temperatures are on the way after what was a simply beautiful, beautiful day, but look at that shot. Anything but beautiful. Weve got the rain, weve got the wind. And weve got temperatures falling, and they are falling dramatically. Already down ten degrees from where we were earlier this afternoon. Now 59. And look at those winds, north winds at 21 Miles Per Hour. Were seeing gusts over 30, even 35 Miles Per Hour with this colder air, and it sinks in across our region. Look at the temperatures. 70 in fredericksburg. Near 40 near 30 degrees colder back towards cumberland. And thats the cold air thats coming in. Were at 50 degrees right now in manassas. That is a 24degree temperature swing over the last couple of hours. Not in the last day, in the last couple hours, and its all because of the system we have now. The rain making its way in here through parts of maryland, Northern Virginia all seeing the rain and just about everybody seeing at least some rain today. Heaviest rain now through crofton, bowie, clinton, maryland. Upper marlboro, waldorf, la pla plata, towards woodbridge, manassas seeing some heavier rain. Weve even heard a couple rumbles of thunder during the day and more shower activity around gaithersburg, mt. Airy and frederick this. Is all rain. Temperatures well above the freezing level now. But back to the west, notice around cincinnati, notice this Northern Branch here, this is where were starting to see that colder air transition from rain to snow and into some sleet. And thats what were going to see tonight. 11 00 tonight, notice were on the drier side here. But here comes wave number two with some rain and then a mixture of rain, sleet and snow towards the west. Some of the areas could see some snow. But tomorrow morning well wake up to a mixture of snow and sleet, back toward the west. Around harrisonburg, shenandoah valley, winchester, its rain and really just showers from d. C. Down to the south. Fredericksburg, parts of southern maryland, tomorrow mornings rush will be on the wet side. Tomorrow afternoon, around noon, notice only a couple showers. Back to the west, that these are showers too, but snow and sleet showers. Maybe sleet around the d. C. Metro area. And, again, sleet is the one that bounces on your car as it comes in. Far different than freezing rain which comes down and freezes on the surface. Good news there, freezing rain much worse than sleet. Well take sleet over freezing rain any day. Even 5 00 in the afternoon. Just showers. So dont expect to see a washout tomorrow at all. And dont expect to see too many problems. Heres where the Winter Weather advisory is. Frederick county, maryland, virginia, and areas west of the blue ridge. D. C. Metro area, what do we expect . Showers likely, but nothing heavy. Cold again and may mix with sleet. But roads just on the wet side. To the west, may see some slick roads, but not a whole lot. 40 degrees tomorrow for a high temperature. Most of you in the 30s all day. 57 on wednesday. 50 degrees coming up on thursday. And then we move back into an unsettled pattern with rain showers likely late friday into the weekend, as well. Not a huge washout on saturday and sunday. But yep, expecting rain. All right. Thanks, doug. Still to come tonight, janay rice talking candidly about that now infamous attack in an elevator. You know, im not going
