Heres one type of insurance you may not know about. Volunteerism insurance basically came into play after the 9 11 attack because that was such a huge loss for the entry. Terrorist attacks of september 11th, 2001, the terrorism Risk Insurance act or tria was born. The government had to step in and help Insurance Companies cover terrorism for those businesses that obviously needed it. Reporter over the last 14 years or so, insurance policies have been required by the act to offer terrorism insurance built in. As the years passed, the government has been responsible for less and less of the damages. The trigger right now is at 100 million. So if you have buildings like the world trade center, those buildings are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Terrorism insurance, thats really what the tria act is meant to pay for. Any damages up to 100 million are to be covered by the insurance company. Theres another caveat. The tria act actually only covers acts by terrorist attacks from foreign governments. Seem slim for most businesses in new mexico, its really not a major concern. Reporter for some like don kauffman, the chance of a terrorist attack actually affecting his business isnt one he wants to take. Somebody comes in, gets mad, blows the place up.
