Because ive been saying this for a long time. I dont think that people have been really listening. But the fact is there were a lot of people watching and ltening last night. Weve had a president for seven years who was the first United States senator who never managed anything in his entire life anan our government is unraveling. We have the russians and ukraine in crimea. We have syria falling apart, libya falling aprt. Our economy is growing at. 7 and middle class wages are going backwards. We dont need another on the job training in the white house. We need someone that has done this stuff and ive done it. I felt that and im glad the American People are getting to see this before they make a mistakes. According to the real clear politics average of the recent polls here in New Hampshire, you are running sixth at this point with less than 5 support. Observers who watched last night and said, you know, you really hurt rubio but did you help yourself in a p position that youre in now which is not too good . None of the polls were taken after last night, were they . And what people saw last night, millions of people saw last night was that im ready to be president of the United States. And how do you show that . I know youlshowed the flaws in rubio. How did you show your leadership just because you took him down . He tried to come at me. I answeredhim every time because ive been tested. Who do you want on that stage against Hillary Clinton . Do you want do republicans want to see someone who can absolutely answer secretary clintons every question in a debate in september so that we actually win the presidency . Or do we want to see someone who clinton . That is extraordinarily important. There is about the america people, chris. President. We need a successful presidency. The American People desperately and i have been tested, whether it is rebuilding my statete after Hurricane Sandy or standing up to the Democratic Legislature or teachers union, im tough to take on Hillary Clinton and tough enough to takeke on the problems that face the United States. In fact, shes the primary bread winner in the christie family. Major industry donor to the Christie Campaign and superpac and the financial industry. So what is wrong with wall street. My wife isnt running for anything. I know. M wife is not running for anything. And what that points out is that governor kasich, what the superpac says he was there when lehman went down. He was the managing director whether it went down and he voted congress for bailouts to the banks and special interest loopholes. Its not about how much money he made. I know you hope it will be you. But coalesce around one of you to take them snon. All week the media is trying to make that we coalesce around marco rubio. After you saw that performance last night, do you think they should be coalescing around marco rubio . Is that leadership we want to see on the stage againin Hillary Clinton . With all the fuss over marco rubio last night, you said sosething big that seemed to me kind of flew under the radar. As president , you will submit a comprehensive Immigration Reform plan to congress including a path to citizenship. No, no, i didnt say that. What i proposed is, look, first of all, were going to freeze all federal regulations for one year and have a Vice President begin to deregulate, look at things that dont make sense, get rid of them. Number, two well have tax cuts for businesses and for individuals. Number three, were also going to restrain government so we can get to a balanced budget. Number four, lets get the border fixed. 0number five, lets start working on social security. Lets go to number four. You didnt say get the border fixed, you said comprehensive Immigration Reform including a path totolegalization. Right. For those that look, heres the deal. Finish the wall. Have a Guest Worker Program where people can come in and work and go home and for the 11. 5 million who are herend not committed a crime since theyve been here, then a path to legalization. This is not the same thing as a pipeline or a bridge or interstate highway. How bad a night for your former pro Shea Marco Rubio . You know, he is so scripted. Hes so gifted. Hes a great speaker. But he came across as totally scripted and robotic. And he just missed the sense of leadership. Can you make a tough decision . And marco is gifted. But hes ner had the chance to actutuly make a tough decision like governors do. Every time i think about it, i four tropical storms and 16 months. You cant script. That you got go out and be all in to help people and we did. Now, your superpac spent 20 million attacking rubio. Here is a clip from one of the ads. Marco rubio ran for senate saying he opposed amnesty, then he broke his promise joining with liberal democrats to coauthor the path to citizenship bill. His fingerprints are all over that bill. And while you dont control the superpac, your campaign ran a fullpage ad this week in a local paper. Eight republican speakersst Florida House they say, while senator rubio is a tremendous political talent, he is not the best choice to serve as ommander in chief. Exactly. There are other people that are focused on him. Other than the fact that hes beating you, why go after rubio so hard . That an important point. Like marco and they pick me. All speakers prior than one that served prior to him and after him, a majority of the house and majority of the senate, theyve had a chance to work with both of us. They pick me by, like, three quarters to 90 of them. The mple fact is im a leader. Marco is a gifted, young n. And theres a big difference. Were running for the presidency of the unit states here. At the same time, a lot of those voters want somebody who is a good communicator, who is able to maybe bring more people into the party. But the challenge for him is there are a lot of undecided and if this is a really tough night for him, they could lose to one of the governors. Y yve been all over the state the last few days. Take big picture. Your sense of this race and the degree to which last nights debate reshaped it . Does shuffle the deck. I think donald trump is a beneficiary. Going in, he has a big lead. I talked to him last night after the debate and he said ways just looking for the clubhouse in golf terms. You know, he was just playing it safe. And i think hes finding the clubhouse. And well see how the rubio moment changes things. I do think it was nice that governor christie welcomed you your show. The key thing in New Hampshire is the 40 undeclared here. And they can either vote in the democrat or republican primary. They can decide that day and youre talking about a lot of people that can shift just for that day. John kasich may benefit that way, too. James, youve been following this, you know, except for governor sununu, we come up heree before. Youve been following this for months. Your sense of the race, your sense of the debate is Trump Holding on to thelead . Which of the four boy they hate it when we say the four socalled establishment candidates is gaining traction here . There are a couple things. Number one, all week, the question about trump is whether or not he will take himself out by something he says or some rival will take him out. Its a queststn about the ground game. The same question following eye to vote . Now we put a lot of effort in the last month. But how efficiency and how and look, when you go to the rallies, a lot of the people are not from New Hampshire. People are working in the call centers are people who are so devoted to him, they moved up for the last thhe weeks n terms of that establishment lane, we saw one key thing flip this week. This has been about the anger of the base and whether or not the candidates get it. Right now were starting to see a flip among them. Who can actually beat hillary and bernie . They ride that wave earlier this week. Now there are questions about it. I dont know how many people watched the debate last night. But the News Coverage that marco rubio had such a bad night will have an imimct. You got to think that this oh, yeah. It is good to have a impact. Onethird of Republican Voters say theyre still making up their minds. This is about the independent voters right now. They have a number of different yes, donald trump is winning them on the republican side. John kasich is doing well. But there is a question about Bernie Sanders. His lead here is base ond three things. Were going to hold that thought for the next one. Governor sununu, i think its fair to say, ive been reading your clips, you are not a fan of donald trump. I got to say, i thought he had a good night last night. I thought he didnt. He flubed badly. I thought his answer on conservatium might get him a c political science. And i really do think he made a hk. Hes going to put a program in and keep people from dying in the streets. There was nothing there. I think that he had a good night for two reasons. One, he started right off the top reminding voters of some of the things he said in the campaign that got him a lot of support from the beginning. His positions on immigration, position onz blocking muslims and then the focus on marco rubio took a lot of the attention away from him in terms of direct attacks from his rivals with the exception of governor bush. I think emerged relatively unscathed f you look to go after him and try to knock him down in New Hampshire, inl not sure that many rivals accomplished that. Were not talking about somebobo here, ted cruz who for ted cruz, i dont think het best debate night. He is obviously really good in that environment. But bececse the rubiochristie exchange at the beginning, ted cruz. And he probably benefits in the lonon run. Because all of the governors had a good night, that dilutes the fact that rubio had such a bad night and trump, you know, kind of sails towards the front. Let me b bng that up with you, jim. What we were seeing going into that debate was that trumpp lead, still sizable but it was slipping away. And it was slip o way to rubio. So if trum Health Care Plan a sununu to the contrary notwithstanding, doesnt that and trump in good stead . This was a good night for donald trump for those reasons. This is really confusing week in terms of that establishment lane. Rubio rose. That made sen. The other three did not go down. Just Chris Christie went down. Kassh and bush held their own. Every time that Bernie Sanders brings that up, it reinforces a narrative about her but also a narrative about him. Do you think because it came up in the debate whether she would release the tranxipts and the pollsters said i dont think do you think she can make that stick not release the transcripts . I think the question that has been asked, i think it becomes harder for her not to release them. At the same t ne, we have no idea what is in the speeches. So there could be a reason they dont want to release them. Brett, what struck me watching that really interesting democratic debate this week and even in hilly clinton wins the nomination, its going to be half a long, bitter ttle with bernie handers that is going to keep pushing herfurther and further to the left. Thats right. I went to the event this w week with the chief strategist for Hillary Clinton. They said that the poll is an outliar and they think by the time they get to South Carolina everything is going to get back together for Hillary Clinton. The problem is that momentum meaea something. And movements mean something. And if Bernie Sandersp has a huge win here in New Hampshire, hes going to haha a bounce thats going to, you know, give him a second look by all kinds o different parts of the in addition to which hes got millioio of dollars in the bank. There is nothing thats going to force him to get out of this race. Exactly. That is a problem for Hillary Clinton. If shes vulnerable, i agree. I think this wall street thing is a big vuerability. And what is in that transcript, maybe its warm and fuzzy language about Goldman Sachs. But the email thing, lets not forg about it. It is serious. I want to get to that. Because i i the debate, clinton was asked how confident she is th fbi investigation will turn up nothing about her private emails and classified information on that. Im confident this is a security review that was requested. It is being carried out. It will be solved. Governor sununu, how serious do you think the clinton email scandal is and what about clintons defense which is, well, some classified information turned up on colin turned up on the emails of some ofondee rices aides, in effect, everyone does it . Six months ago i wasorried about her coronation. Now im worried shes not going to get the nomination. The emails are a serious issue. Bernie has not used them aggressively. She got a free ride in that whole process. And i dont think she understands how close she is to real political and legal trouble with whats coming through the fbi. I thi the behind the scenes activity of the Democratic Party in trying to keep joe bin propped up and ready tells more about what her situation is more than anything else. How do you see i think theyre hoping that joe is ready to jump in quickly. The big donors are making commitments to him that if he does have to do it, theyll be there. Theyre just getting ready for plan b. James, your sense, are voters following the email scandal specifically or does it show up issues of honesty and trustworthiness . Obviously, did it impact her trustworthiness. You saw the numbers die since the spring heading into that 11 hour testimony. But in terms of democratic primary voters, jewel sli right. They dont care. This is a general lection issue. And how that flips into you dont see its a problem at all in the primaries . I think it adds into this idea of the clintons. Are there question marks that we have in terms of the democratic primary voter versus the enthusiasm you have towards Bernie Sanders . The two questions is sometng that we know and something that we dont know. Something we know is that Bernie Sanders raised a lot of money. That is a very probably the most important met rick. He raised more money than Hillary Clinton did. That is a really important metric. That means he can blast on. We can focus on the polls, but if he does really well here, i dont know. What is really well . Is really well winning by ten points . That sounds pretty good. There is a perception that lead here is not that big inside both campaigns. Bret, after watching the democratic debate and seeing how he argued with her on even terms and seem to really get under her skin and after watching him draw even, not in New Hampshire but on the National Poll should we start taking Bernie Sanders more seriously as a potential democratic nominee . Listen, its easy to buy into the clinton argument that a number of states dont line up for Bernie Sanders. And in the africanamerican community, so far he does not have a lot of support. Th can change. I dont think its a fantasy to believe t tt Bernie Sanders could win other states. I also come back to here in New Hampshire the undeclared voters. And they could shift for Bernie Sanders in a vote against Hillary Clinton. pthey could decide that day or that is what is so fascinating about this state in particular. Julie, 30 seconds. I want to see how zuin the south, if he can stay competitive with clin in the delicate gounlt, i think we need to take him seriously.
