Following breaking news on the road ways. State police are on the scene of a three car crash in chesapeake. It happened on interstate 64 east of great bridge boulevard just before three o clock. Officials say a van traveling westbound sideswiped a tractor trailer that was stopped on the shoulder of the road. This caused the van to strike another tractor trailer traveling in the same direction. One of the tractor trailers lost its load and has blocked the westbound lanes of 64. This is a picture of the crash. We are told the driver of the van was taken to the hospital. Right now the roadway is shutdown until debris can be cleared. Taking a look at the back ups is causing. Severe storms can bring flooding in Hampton Roads but we all know it doesn t take much for roads to become impassable. Today the city of norfolk and the army corps of engineers joined forces on a study to combat flooding. Todd corillo was there and joins us now live in norfolk. Ladies the hague here is notorious for Flooding Issues we could see problems tonight with storms rolling through but now the city of norfolk is partnering with the army corps of engineers to find some Permanent Solutions to live with the water. Take much for norfolk to flood. From heavy rain storms making intersections impassable to tidal flooding sending the hague flowing over its banks norfolk has a flooding problem. In fact the city has one of the highest sea level rises on the coast second only to new orleans. Wednesday morning the city and the norfolk District Army corps of engineers signed an agreement to split the cost of a major flooding study it s needed in order to qualify for federal funds for projects to today s signing set into motion the study which is expected to take three years to complete. Big developments in a Virginia Beach case a woman who was charged with killing her boyfriend was free to walk out of court today without any charges against her. Newcshannel 3 s Gabriella Deluca has the story. Megan dejesus wipes her tears away as she learns she will no longer be charged with killing her boyfriend 23 year old terrance covington. Today the commonwealth s attorney dropped her voluntary manslaughter charge after prosecutors determined she acted in self defense. The commonwealth s Attorney S Office issued a statement saying prosecutors were notified very early on that this may be the outcome and there is insufficient evidence to prove that dejesus in court today dejesus and covington both had family and friends there. As dejesus walked out she was surrounded by supporters and didn t want to comment to newschannel 3. But covington s family did. They also say they don t believe the commonwealth s evidence is accurate and that dejesus was not acting in self defense. The charges could be brought back if the commonwealth finds different evidence that shows dejesus committed a crime but a spokesperson says it isn t likely. Seven year old keion was in a crash with his best friend in norfolk on monday. His beest friend nine year old Lucas Ballard didn t make it. Since the crash keions sister says her little brother has been sedated and on a breathing machine after he suffered from bruised lungs and a swollen brain. But this morning his sister tells me keion has had since last night. His sister says keion is now walking and talking and could be going home as soon as tonight or tomorrow. It happened at the store on they tell us the man walked in, got some cash and took off. No one was hurt. Police spotted 26yearold Gregory Jones a few blocks from the store, where officers arrested him. He is charged with robbery and providing a false id. Jones is being held at the Virginia BeachCorrectional Center without bond. A house caught fire on marlboro avenue in norfolk early this morning. We re told the home was under construction and there was no one inside. It all happened around 130. Crews had it under control in just about an hour. No one was hurt. Today was the last day for hundreds of workers at the Newport News Shipbuilding yard. More than sevenhundred workers were part of the second wave of layoffs. The first wave in september saw 480 workers lose their jobs. This comes after an announcement late last year that the shipbuilder would cut more than one thousand workers over the next couple of years. The Company Blames the layoffs on a workload valley. Steven wright was allowed to walk out of the jail in Downtown Los Angeles saturday afternoon due to a clerical error. In a recent court hearing, wright was held in contempt of court and sentenced to five days even though he was already in jail. He served his contempt punishment and was supposed to remain in jail on his murder charge, but wright s paperwork was improperly labeled leading to his release. Wright is a known gang member and is considered armed and dangerous. There is a 20 thousand dollar reward for information leading to his arrest, but so far police have no leads.
