Erin como has traffic. We have heat today, some scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon but heat does break for the weekend. Much cooler weather in place. Er are eerin. A deadly hitandrun has two lanes of 210 shut down. Residents at a Prince Georges County home awake concerned by flames ripping through their home. The home is not far from the university of maryland. Our Melanie Alnwick live in University Park with more. What happened here, mel . Reporter hey, good morning, guys. Want to let you know first of all that baltimore avenue is back opened now but you can see here just the complete devastation. Watery and smoky mess left behind here. The orange tag on the door showing that this place is condemned. It was about 2 oclock in the morning when the fire started. Firefighters tell me that when they arrived the fire and the flames were shooting from the basement to the center of the house and all the way through the roof. This is the kind of fire that went u this video here provided to us by katie barr one of the students that was inside this house. This is a rental home. Everyone who lives here is a university of maryland student. Theres about five students who live here. They told me that just a few were home at the time. Katie said that, you know, they were awokenned by one of the friends that was staying at the house, told there was a fire. They went to go look. They opened the basement door. It was just so much smoke they couldnt even see in front of them. Heres what she said they did next. I got my laptop on my way out just as like a College Student instinct. My dorm had a fire one time and i get the laptop and go. But i mean, i lost my clothes i guess. I dont know, my rooms the middle room so towards the back of the house, thats gone. Towards the front of the house, thats more intact so i dont know what im going to have and what im not. I want to show you here, you see that large piece of piping, it looks like the duct and the roof vent here. One firefighter was injured because that piece of roof fell on top of him. He was taken top medstar hospital but we are told that he is supposed to be okay. Fire officials do tell me that there were working smoke detectors in this house. A section of indian head highway is closed in accokeek after a deadly hitandrun. It happened around 12 45. Officers responding to a report of a woman struck. She unfortunately died at the scene. The striking vehicle and driver did not stay on the scene. And we have more breaking news from Northern Virginia. An 18yearold man has been shot by police in manassas after a chase. Prince William County investigators say around 12 40 this morning manassas see officers responding to reports of shots fired. The officers spotted a vehicle that may have been involved in the i they tried to stop it but it took off. They chased the car into hell wig Memorial Park on bristow road where the 18yearold driver was shot. Its unclear why officers opened fire. The man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. There was a juvenile passenger in the car who was not hurt. Breaking overnight this time in montgomery county. The search for an elderly woman who has dementia. Now take a good look at your screen. This is not the picture that we need to show you. The picture is of 92yearold chun lynn choi. Her family says they last saw her on red line lane in calverton. All right, lets tell you about this developing overnight. The city of new orleans says they will take down a statue of confederate general robert e. It comes after the citys removal of the statue of another confederate general along with jefferson davis. Another city making the same move orlando florida. There was a decision last week to remove a confederate statue there. Each removal has sparked heated protests both for and against. We are following a developing story this time out of the district. New concerns this morning about speeding in a southeast neighborhood where a sixyearold boy was killed in a hitandrun accident. Xavier luckey was hit and killed while crossing the street with his mother. Witnesses say a car came speeding through and he was hit. Mayor bowsers administration sent out a statement saying they will review and implement Safety Measures in that area. As for the driver who hit xavier, no charges have been filed against him. Not too far from that deadly hitandrun a man was shot late last night at a temper7eleven parking lot aroud 11 30. Witnesses told fox5 they heard about six gunshots. No word on what led up to that shooting. The victim was taken to the hospital. 5 05 is our time right now.
