The reasons for that is, obviously, it will put our officers at a extreme tactical disadvantage if the suspect knows what our folks are doing. And. For five days and sounds like and can you give us the feeling amongst the officers now that it looks like he may be caught . Everyone is hopeful this ends without further bloodshed and hope to take him into custody and that he doesnt hurt anyone else. We hope none of the officers were seriously injured, which we dont know at this point. The best thing would be for him to surrender and allow us to take him into custody. There is a tremendous sense of apprehension concerned about the officers up there. Until hes in handcuffs and custody, none of the people in our department are going to rest. What about your manpower . What kind of resources . I cant give the specifics. We sent resources and theyre waiting at the airport in San Bernardino now, and were waiting to be called in by the commander if needed. Right now, were not needed and people have been asking if the chief of police has gone out there, he has not responded out there. Wheres still here. [ question indicernible ] and i dont have any information about the vehicle that the suspect allegedly took and i have seen videotape. If he is watching this, what message do you have for him . The message is enough is enough. Its time to turn yourself in and its time to stop the bloodshed and let this event and incident be over. Your First Priority is to take him alive and to put him under arrest. The safety of the community. I am sure the San Bernadino sheriffs are evacuating people and making sure the citizens are safe and once that area is locked down and all the citizens are safe in that area, then well let the San Bernadino s. W. A. T. Team go in there and do what they do best, to get this guy. Hopefully in custody and hopefully without further bloodshed. One more question and i have to go. The county sheriffs are in our jrick, and theyre imbedded with a team of officers working together to solve this and they have been there since the beginning. We sent one of our assistant chiefs to San Bernadino and he in their command post. Were getting realtime updates and we know what is going on up there and probably a Good Exchange of information. We work really well with our Law Enforcement partners throughout southern california. Okay. [ question indicernible ] i dont know what the weapons are that he had. The edge on maryland where police are investigating an apparent murder suicide, involving three university of maryland roommates. The suspect was a 23yearold grad student recently diagnosed with a illness. Bob barnard has the latest developments. Bob. Reporter investigators say the suspect didnt leave a suicide note. Therefore, they have no idea why he allegedly opened fire on his roommates. The house where it happened on 36th avenue and college park is walking distance to the university of maryland camps. The murder suicide involving three of five roommates. We heard about 10 shots fired. Reporter green, an engineering grad student and intern at nearby nasa goddard set four fires. One inside, three in the backyard before turning on his roommates who had been awakened by the commotion. One of the students noticed the suspect reaching into his waistband for a gun. 45 student then that student then began to run away from the home. As he did, he heard gun shots and then very quickly realized that he had been hit. Reporter that 22yearold student is expected to survive. The murder victim was 22year old undergrad steven alex reign of silver spring. My thoughts are this is a great tragedy for the rest of maryland entire community, and our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. Reporter police say greens family told investigators that he had been suffering from a Mental Illness for a year and was predescribed medication to treat it. When i met him, he was a nice guy, you know, very well spoken. A january win nice guy. Reporter investigators say the murder weapon was a legally purchased. 9millimeter handgun. The investigators say a bag that had a machete, a fully loaded semi automatic weapon and lots of ammunition was found with green who shot and killed him in the backyard after gunning down his friends out front here, brian.
