It will be cold and windy today particularly this afternoon with some afternoon sunshine. Tommy wells says he is going to get the ball rolling on monday with an Exploratory Committee and as you said, he made that big announcement last night right here on fox 5. I want to talk a little bit about wells. In his early days on the school board, he pushed for immunizations for all d. C. Students. He also fought to clean up the Anacostia River with a bag tax. And most recently, wells announced he would call for hearing into allegations that d. C. Police are not investigating sexual assaults properly. Mayor vincent gray has not yet announced whether he with will republican again. If he does choose to do so, he has a lot to boast about. The city has one and a half billion dollars in the bank. There is Development Across d. C. And more than 1,000 people moving into the city each month. But ethics likely going to be a big role in the next mayoral election. Two councilmember have resigned, charged with felonies. Several of mayor grays come pain workers pleaded guilty to campaign crimes and mayor gray himself under investigation from federal prosecutors. We talked about all of that with tommy wells last night. As but the thaipg that will derail it for the city a government that has a crisis in ethics and certainly a government that loses the confidence in people we govern. That is something that we cant have happen and that is why im exploring a run for mayor to be sure we keep the progress of our great city going. The child was taken off his school bus tuesday after his kidnapper came aboard and shot the bus driver to death. Neighbors have identified the captor as 65 years jimmy lee dikes. Police say the two remain in a homemade bunker equipped with tv and electricity. Negotiators were able to get medicine to the boy who is said to have aspergers syndrome and adhd. Neighbors describe the man as intimidating with strong Anti Government views. A judge in Northern Virginia is today expected to rule whether to declare a mistrial in the case of a former Culpeper Police officer. Daniel Harmon Wright was convicted of killing an unarmed woman last year. His attorneys claim jurors used a dictionary to help them define the word malice them argue jurors were confused about instructions given to them. Thank you. A new documentary is sharing the storive of a Legendary Club that showcased some of the biggest names in rock, pop, blues and jazz before they were even famous. So it is hard to imagine bands like u2 and kiss called up and coming but at one point they were. Somebody has to start somewhere. When they were, they performed a bayou in georgetown. It has been closed for 15 years now and some film makers are helping to make sure its story is not forgotten. Paul wagner has more. Reporter the bayou was in an old red brick building underneath the whitehurst freeway in georgetown where it began hosting dickey land dixie land jazz bands in the 50s. It was like no other place. It was dark, cavernous, it was raucous. Reporter bill scanlon, a former dy at d. C. 101 loved it there and when he heard the place was closing, he got inside with a camera. I think the film captures a piece of washington Music History that is little known and certainly isnt spotlighted and yet was pretty vibrant, brought in national acts as well as very, very strong local players. Reporter the bayou is long gone. It was torn down years ago. In its place now is the lowes theater where the documentary will have its premiere. In the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, if you wanted for see an up and coming rock and roll band being the bayou was the place to be. You could have seen duran duran for 3. 50. The british band dire straits played the bayou just as cul ton of swing was beginning its run up the charts. U2 hit the stage as well opening for the slicky boys. They are nice guys. They were all just like real young irish guys, hard to understand. Mark noone loved playing there. The statement was comfortable and great. Spring steep played the bayou once. From that one, no video but there are some great photographs. Reporter the film is a labor of love for scanlon who put it together over the last 14 years or so, the funding coming from mainly donations. Im very proud that we stuck with it and really happy so many people supported us. Our kick start came in with over 30,000 in funding and made it possible.
