Net so they can corralled and then taken out of this pond. And then moved over to the back to the Crystal River. What we know right now theres at least one more maam and calf combo possibly another manatee in addition to those two. This rescue effort has going on since early this morning theyve stuck in here since hurricane hermine they were washed over bridge that separates this pond on golf course that a canal that connects to the Crystal River were at the plantation on Crystal River. This massive team involving volunteer an experts throughout region. This really does take a lot of work. We think there might be about 17 manatees in there, at least six the biggest ones weigh 1500 pounds. And all of these animals have literally be carried out on a stretcher placed into a truck. And then taken down the road and released back into Crystal River down a boat ramp. That. Carrying these manatees takes about 20 people. Especially when were talking about the a largest of these 1500 pounds. Those stretchers they are massive stretcher theyve handles all around them really manpower how it was explained to me. A spokesperson for plantation says these manatees have really been in really good shape since theyve been stuck in this pond. It might sound like a very serious situation this this pond here is filled i dont know if you can see where all kayaks are, those kayaks are surrounded by weeds. And it is a food source for manatees theyve what amounts to a buffet for them for last couple of weeks since hurricane hermine came through here. Like i said, these volunteers are they are focussing right now on getting that mom and calf. The mom and calf have to be kept together. Im tolded that if they are separated sometimes, the mother manatee will abandon the calf and that can be a dangerous obviously for the calf. So thats the effort right now. Linda, were going to be out here and keep following this see how things go from here. You know, aaron in all years ive lived and worked here i dont think ive ever seen a one. See whole lot of people behind you, are those all volunteer has this kind of become a show and people are showing up to watch . Well, a little bit of both. But most of them are volunteers. I mean right here behind me, you can see they are holding on to a line here. And then across the pond, those are all volunteers on the other side of the pond there. Like i said it takes so many volunteers to corral them. All of those people on kayaks those are volunteers not only are they trying to help corralli p to keep alligators away. Im told al gairts have been cooperating. Ing there a 7 or so alligators. Were talking about six baby alligators and one large or 7 or eight foot alligator. It takes lot of effort just to not only get these manatees out of pond to keep everybody safe in the process. Yeah alligators are cooperating. I love that. Thanks aaron i know you will keep us up a dated right. Appreciate it.
