That 26yearold Police Officer is stable tonight here at Jefferson University hospital but he is suffering from very severe injuries after being struck by a hitandrun driver in south philadelphia and police say that driver is still on the loose tonight. Shattered knee. Broken leg and the laceration to his head. Reporter broken windshield of the chrysler 200 is shattered from the body of a philadelphia Police Officer. Hit by a driver trying to run from police. The officer hit the parked unattended vehicle with such impact he put a whole a foot long and 2 feet long in the front windshield and you can even see some of the officers scalp and hair on the broken front windshield. Reporter police say the 17th district officer with just two years on the force was responding to a weapons call near the 2700 block of zero street in point breeze when this Volkswagen Passat sped the wrong way down a oneway street. The car struck the officer and kept going. Leaving the officer bleeding in the middle of the road. Police say Good Samaritans came to the officers aid. They did really good job. One woman applied direct pressure using a towel from her home on the officers head. They actually collected the gun and the radio that fell off the officers belt from the impact. Reporter police say while the suspect took off, he left behind an 18yearold woman and an 11yearold boy who were being questioned by detectives. Meanwhile, on sears street my car. My car. Reporter owner of the chrysler came out of the her home to see her car the center of a crime scene. I hope the officer is fine. All i can say i hope the officer is fine. He is suffering from a broken leg, shattered kneecap and head injuries. He is expected to survive but certainly a long road ahead for recovery. I was scared gunshots flying through here and the kids running and its very scary. Reporter this heroic store clerk doesnt want to reveal her identity for fear shell be targeted but she described to us the moments after she heard four gunshots ring out just outside this corner store in hunting park 3 30 monday afternoon. One of those bullets striking a young girl walking home from school. They was running very fast and very scared and crying. Reporter the clerk says a pack of seven schoolgirls ran into the store to shelter themselves from the spray of bullets. One of them was the 11yearold who police say was shot in the foot. I was checking her body and take the shoes off and gunshot in her shoes. Reporter little girl was able to give the clerk her moms phone number. They only lived about half a block away and the mother came running. She grabbed a Police Officer and the two rushed the child to nearby saint christophers hospital. Authorities say the grade schooler was struck by a stray bullet and they dont believe she was the intended target. Kids they go out to school this time. Its not the first time. This happened a lot of times in here. We scared. Were about to move from here. Reporter very very frightening situation there. But again that clerk sprung into action helped that little girl. Now, the suspect is described as a man between the ages of 25 to 30 and police say he was wearing a distinct dragon shirt at the time of the shooting. Surveillance cameras captured the crime west Park Apartments on the 4400 block of hole den street in powelton. Investigators say when the elevator stopped on the eighth floor the man block the exit you can see it there. Got into a scuffle with the victim and stole several hundred dollars. He was a real team player. And im going to miss him so much. I thought he would just walk during the school day and everything would be okay but he never came. Reporter when College Student Shane Montgomery disappeared in the Schuylkill River in manayunk last year, volunteers with the garden state underwater Recovery Team spent days looking for and eventually finding his body. Nobody expects tragedy to strike in that way and when it does, how do you find a dive team . It was that dive team that gave the montgomerys closure. Tonight about two dozen charities were each awarded 10,000 by the phillies for their service. Awesome feeling to know that the recognition that they deserve theyre getting. Police in both Burlington City and township say a man fitting the same description has robbed three gas stations. The first at the speedy gas on mt. Holly road. Reporter shes back after several months of swimming up and down the coast, mary lee the great white shark with internet following of nearly 100,000 people was recently tracked about 30 miles off the shore here in Atlantic City. Researchers just released new video of mary lee. After seeing her, i came down the shore to see how people feel about mary lee being back in our area. Oh, my gosh. She is huge. Its not summer. I dont think theyre as concerned that theyre going to get eaten. People definitely still care. Its awesome. I wouldnt be concerned right now. In the summer i would would be. Because not too many people go down by the water. Reporter mary lee is over 16 feet long and weighs about 3500 pounds. Over the summer there was little bit of a shark hysteria that had people tracking her every move. But now that nobody is in the water any way, now what do they think . Dont mess with them.
