Happening right now, another change for septa Regional Rail riders. With many trains already burstinbursting at the seams yot might what ton leave yourself extra time for your commute on monday. Septa will no longer allow passengers to pay on trains leaving center city. Good evening, everyone, im chris oconnell. Im dawn timmeney. Yet another complication for the transit agency. Since it removed a third of its Regional Rail cars due to a defect in its silver liner five fleet. Fox 29s brad sattin live outside septa headquarters with what these changes will mean. It only impacts the five center stations beginning on monday. That is august 1st. And only during the afternoon rush hour. Septa says its a matter of efficiency but the passengers we talked to arent so sure. How to describe riding on septas Regional Rail this past month . Its been terrible. I mean, its really been bad. Busy, crowded. Disgruntled. Reporter big problems when 120 cars a third of the fleet were suddenly taken out of service due to a defect. 28 cars since have been added but people are still packed in and many trains are late. I always have to wait 20, 25 minutes. Reporter result ridership is down and passengers have been able to avoid paying during peak volumes the conductors dont have enough time to assist passengers at each stop and check for all tickets. Sometimes they dont. Sometimes they just will they just dont have the ability to move through the train to take tickets or passes and theyll skip it. Reporter starting with monday afternoon rush hour each weekday from 3 00 to 6 30 tickets will have to be shown prior to entering the platform at all five center city statio stations. No more buying tickets on the train. If you dont have a ticket or pass, you can go to the sales office at the stations and do your purchase there then youll have ticket and youll be validated at the top of the stairwell before you go down to the station. Reporter septa says it will improve operations but some passengers are left wondering how will adding another step prior to boarding speed things up. Going to create timetable issues with people being late and the trains being backed up and delays will be greater because trains are going to leave without the people waiting for it. Septa urging passengers to arrive early and laura for one is still hopeful. Im a dedicated Public Transportation rider so im hopeful things will work out and i think everyone will have to allow little more time and be a little flexible. Reporter some good advice for sure. Again this is not going to impact any of the stations outside of the center city area. Again, there are five win center city. Especially bucks county. But heres the bottom line. Mid 80s for highs but you can see scattered showers and thunderstorms both saturday and sunday. So what about saturday morning . Patchy fog out there. Some cloud cover to start. Mild and muggy. And then look at the clock. By lunch, were already looking at some scattered showers across the area. Heres two, three in the afternoon especially north and west. The pocono mountains big nascar weekend. Timing some of those showers and thunderstorms there as well. Just over a hundred disorderl dy conduct citations issued to protesters, 98 went to out of towners. The seven people who made headlines breaking through the dnc security gates theyre all from out of town, too. I guess it doesnt really surprise me. Very peaceful experience with the police here. Speaking in an Afternoon Press Conference kenney says the convention was a big success. Kenney says there were no arrests made by city police during the dnc. The first term mayor says philly cemented its reputation as city that does big events like the pope or the dnc pretty well. Were ready for anything that can come our way they can fill our hotels and restaurants and make the city look good. In north philadelphia, a 10yearold little girl is recovering tonight after she was shot in the arm. Caught in the crossfire of flying bullets. Fortunately, that little girl is okay tonight. But her community is not okay with the violence. Tonight Philadelphia Police philadelphia cease fire held a rally calling for peace. Our Shawnette Wilson joins us live from Police Headquarters tonight. Shawnette, police are still looking for whoever shot that little girl. Reporter they are, three people theyre looking for dawn and chris. Meanwhile that little girl is out of the hospital tonight but she still has bullet lodged in her arm. This evening she attended to rally in response to the shoo shooting. I feel a little better report roar this pretty little girl amazingly has the strength to wear her dimpled smiles a day after she was hit in the arm by a stray bullet. Said they cant take it out because they might damage the inside of my arm. My skin got to push the bullet out. She was treated and released from saint christophers after she was shot in the left arm 6 00 oclock yesterday evening. Two men were shooting at each other on rosewood street in north philly where she lives. I start feeling it and saw all this blood coming down my arm. I look at it and started crying. Reporter her mother didnt want to us give her name but visibly overcome with sadness. There was nothing i can do to protect my child. Reporter she says its the third shooting on their street in a week. Im just tired of the violence. Like, its not okay. Kids to not be able to play outside. My daughter there was no reason for her to be shot. Reporter her grandmother had just gotten out of the car and were crossing the street to go in the house. We heard shots popping out of nowhere. Now on to developing story out of california. Investigation is underway in san diego after a routine traffic stop leaves one Police Officer dead and another hurt. Investigators say the two officers were members of a gang suppression unit and stop at least one person on a city street. Police say the shooting started almost immediately and fatally wounded officer jonathan de guzman is 16 year veteran of the force. Police chief Shelly Zimmerman said both officers were wearing bullet proof vests and had at least one body camera. To have this happen to our Police Officers, we have seen this happen way too many times just in these last few weeks across our great country. It is tragic for everyone. 52yearold jesse gomez was taken into custody and is in Critical Condition from a gunshot wound but is expected to survive. Another possible suspect was captured after an hours long standoff. Physical police have arrest add man who they say assaulted and kill his girlfriend in germantown. The victim a 24yearold woman. She was found dead inside a home on the 4800 block of green street about 10 30 this morning. Police arrested a 47yearold man at that home. Authorities are not commenting at this time on a possible motive for the murder. A boil water advisory continues tonight in the city of camden. All because of a water main break. That advisory affecting camden neighborhoods west of the cooper river. American water says Water Service and pressure has been restored to all customers but as a precaution residents should continue to boil tap water for at least one minute and let it cool before using it. You can also use bottled water instead. It was an up usual rescue for philadelphia First Responders tonight. The dangers they faced as they tried to pull a man out of the sewer. Really the News Health Officials were dreading. How four people in the United States recently contracted the zika virus. An brutal beating caught on camera. An Ice Cream Truck driver hit repeatedly with a baseball bat. How that bat helped Police Nab One of the suspects. We have developing news tonight out of center city. Thats where authorities tell us a pickup truck drove through the doors of magee rehabilitation hospital. Take a look closely much theres a truck through those doors. It happened around 8 30 tonight. We are told five people were taken to local hospitals. That includes the driver. One of those people a man in serious condition, of course, as we get updates, we had bring them to you. Tense moments in the citys hunting park neighborhood after man winds up in a sewer pipe. It sent First Responders racing to that scene to try to get him out. Luckily he made it out but Officials Say it could have been a whole lot worse. Fox 29s Joanne Pileggi live in the newsroom with this story. Joanne . Chris, dawn a low frequency but high risk event. And that is how the fire commissioner characterized this rescue tonight. It definitely involved putting Emergency Personnel in a dangerous situation. Skyfox above this rescue effort at ninth and russ pike in hunting park. At ground rescue one and other responders trying to get a man out of the sewer below the street. This is as dangerous as it gets doing this technical rescue work. This a very challenging and difficult job. Somehow he wound up in the sewer hole. Whether or not someone removed it or he was we dont know exactly how he wound up. Cover was removed. We dont know how. Reporter but responders had to figure out how to remove the man from the 18inch diameter sewer pipe as quickly as they could. Youre concerned about Hydrogen Sulfide and methane. Methane because of the explosive nave and hydromine sulfide gets high enough a concentration it can kill. We were able to bring the Water Department resources here. Water Department Member actually go down first to do recognizan recognizance. Had their maps and their plans our folks mater in went in and made the rescue. They pulled him up from this this sewer hole right there. Reporter fire Officials Say rescue one personnel trained for all types of events. Their goal to safe lives. After Great Team Effort we were able to bring him out and rescue him. Reporter he was not identified at the time was taken to the hospital to be checked out and evaluated. Health officials believe four people in florida have now caught the virus from mosquitoes in the sunshine state. Its the scenario doctors have been dreading. The zika virus is being actively transmitted by mosquitoes in florida. But officials there are quick to point out that this currently only affects a one square mile area near miami. Experts say just because mosquitoes carry zika in the state is no cause for panic. Mosquitoes not migratory. Theyre not going to all of a sudden pick up from broward and move to orlando. Theyre hopper. They dont fly very well or far. Researchers are actively working on a potential zika vaccine but warn its unlikely any vaccine would be ready for distribution until 218 at the earliest.
