Reporter well, dawn and chris, police say it was neighbors stepping up on their own and giving up information that led to police making arrest very quickly. It is very scary. I live right here. So i am scared. Reporter she lives right across the street from the darby borough home where young mother of two was shot and killed on the 100 block of Spring Valley road. I was like so shocked because ive been living here for over a decade now, and i never have seen anything like this. So it was like so surprising. Reporter police say early this morning, 26yearold crystal lynn thomas was shot once by her boyfriend, 31yearold edward moses, jr. She didnt get into anything around here. She was just basically kept to herself. Reporter cops say Thomas Little girl and little boy were in the house at the time of the murder. Sources say moses is the father of the boy. Im just glad he its senseless you should shoot your childrens mother and leave her in there to die, and leave her kids in there. Its outrageous. Reporter neighbors would see moses at the house from time to time but never saw trouble with no sign of a killing coming overnight. There was some noise in the breezeway and his car was parked in the back and he got in the car and he left. But at that time no one new he had commit add crime. Reporter investigators say Family Member entered the home and found thomas fatally wounded in the bathroom. Police were surprised to see that neighbors volunteered information on their own. They cant say enough about the people in Lansdowne Park in the Spring Valley and weymouth road area. We would not have been able to do this. Im glad that the community did speak to the police. A lot of wuss interviewed, and reporter the suspect is facing numerous murder charges. Were told by police hes expected to be arraigned tomorrow. Police sources say a 45yearold south philadelphia man stands charged tonight in the Drug Overdose deaths of two Queen Village residents. Its the first case of its kind filed in philadelphia under a new state law. The two victims died of a Drug Overdose in early april in an apartment at fourth and bainbridge. Joseph massimino, jr. Is now charged in their deaths after detectives linked a unique drug concoction, phone messages and drug containers to massimino. Police found more than 200,000 in heroin, crystal meth, bar bitch wants and marijuana inside his mountain street home and also found more than 7,000 in cash and two guns. Massimino is being held on 750,000 bail and sources tell fox 29 he is the son of jailed mob under boss joseph massimino. Attorney for mass nino, jr. , greg pagano released a statement saying this is uncommon charge and will review the evidence and fight these charges. Police say that driver tried to bass two tractor trailers carrying oversized loads and their escort car. The driver clipped the escort car crashing into the schoolbus. In wilmington, a toddler is recovering tonight after she was struck by a car not once but twice and the driver then took off. Police say the bullets hit a young boy four times hes in the hospital right now in critical condition. It all happened on the 3300 block of malta street about 9 15 tonight. 25yearold man was also shot in the knee. Hes in stable condition. So far police havent made any arrests. We do have a crew on the way to the scene right now and we will have update as soon as we can. Investigation is underway into what started a fire at a Fast Food Restaurant in the citys mayfair section. You can see lots of crews on the scene. Employees there evacuated. It can cause significant neurologic problems some people estimate that 50 of people that get infected with this will have longterm neurological side effects. And about 10 of people that get it will die. Reporter dr. Mike says it is rare that people will contract from it a tick bite havent those severe side effects. He says most will only get flulike symptoms. But in some cases it will bring on seizures and encephalitis and inflammation of the brain and no treatment for vaccine. Its a combination of warm weather. Its a combination of changes in the dynamics of field mice, dear and then us. Reporter her fouryearold nephew. He was such a beautiful little boy. He was a happy boy. Reporter fiveyearold neighbor both children struck and killed here back before there was a traffic light. It was protest then to get this light. Reporter penndot now plans to remove it. Protest now to keep this light. Reporter penndot is in the midst of a four and a half mile upgrade to allegheny avenue. A 7 million project paid for with federal money. And with it, federal rules. Three of the 18 intersections along the stretch dont have enough side road traffic to meet the requirements for a traffic light. And the feds say it would actually create a traffic flow danger. Instead these intersections will get yellow flashing lights, pavement and street signs and wider sidewalks to slow traffic. No one here thinks thats good enough. Its not right. That Task Force Wants city officials to consider the implementation of save sites thats where users could epp correct heroin much these sites have operated for years in places like the netherlands and australia, but they face significant legal and political challenges here in the united states. As well as criticism that the amount surrendering to an epidemic that should be fought with prevention and treatment. This is a big problem and it affects everybody. It affects rule areas. It affects urban areas. It affects rich and poor, male, female, republicans and democrats young and old. So we need to do something about this across the state. Overdose deaths in philadelphia surged over 900 in 2016. A 30 increase from the year before. A local student is quite the star at his high school and i know dawn every time you talk about him a smile comes over your face. He is inspiring fellow students and teachers in a big way. This young man and his positivity bringing out the best in everyone around him. Kevin luzinski is an enthusiastic competitor. Go, kev. This day, the 18yearold is getting pumped for unified sports Special Olympics track and field meet at souderton area high school. The Program Brings together students who have intellectual disabilities with those who dont to compete on the same team. One, two, three souderton when you have a child with special needs you worry more. Youre not so sure how theyre going to fit in if theyre going to fit in. Unified sports helps build bonds. Its about fitness, friendship and social inclusion. Of course, kevins mom is a fixture on the side lines. But this guy has an even bigger fan club. The Souderton High School Lacrosse Team. Hes just phenomenal presence and just always a source of positive energy. A great guy to have around. 21 now. Souderton head coach mark, sees kevin in act just about every day. Kev is the team las cross manager. The teen is at all the games and all the practices working with the players and encouraging th them. How do you help the guys . Do you boss them around or what . No. Help coach. Feels like one of the brothers on the team. Like just feels part keeps us up and gives us something to play for. Kevins love for the Lacrosse Team and his loyalty has not gone unnoticed. This is video of the players cheer him on every step of the way as he gives it all his at a [ applause ] we can learn a lot from him. To see him cross the finish line and compete the way he does, it means everything. Hes an example of how we should all act day in and day out. [ applause ] the connection between kevin and the players is genuine. And mutually beneficial. I just see true friendships being made there. They dont really see him as being any different than anybody else. Hes just one of guys. Kevins parents couldnt be prouder of their son and the community that has embraced, loved, nurtured and accepted h him. Kevin is a gift. Hes a blessing. And hes helped all of us become better people and a lot of people. He touched a lot of lives along the way. Plainly clear kevin loves life he wants to get the most out of it.
