Was bleeding from the nose hours later he was dead. Now a neighborhood is looking for answers tonight. Good evening, everyone, im chris oconnell. Im dawn timmeney its just a tragic scene that played out in southwest philadelphia. Fox 29s dave kinchen has more on this heartbreaking story. Dave . Reporter just a devastating story and the details are still developing right now. Police say right now the parents are being questioned. I just feel sad that it happened in this neighborhood. Its a baby. Its a child. Its another child that is lost. Reporter dr. Caroline in a harris waits for answers as crime seen investigators work an apartment on the 5800 block of willows avenue in cobbs creek. This after police say a six week old baby boy was found by his parents bleeding from his nose and somehow died. We as neighbors, we have to be more cognizant of who is in our block. Reporter detectives spent hours investigating the upstairs apartment where sources say the baby lived with his parents. I feel sorry for the mother honestly. All she know and all the lord knows what happened. Reporter Philadelphia Police say the newborn was found by his parents who took him to mercy fitzgerald hospital. From there he was airlift to do chop and pronounced dead. First responders reported the child having internal bleeding on the brain, lungs and Blunt Force Trauma to the head. Details that leave neighbors speechless. Wow thats all i can say. Reporter well, we do know it was chop who called the police and thats when the investigation started but again were told that the parents are being questioned by police as this story develops. Police say two officers are now out of the hospital after another car slammed into their cruiser earlier tonight. This hammed in the wissonoming section of the city. Torresdale avenue and robbins street just before 5 00 oclock. Police were responding to a call at the time of the crash. On your radar tonight, traffic is flowing smoothly across the ben frankn. Lets start with meteorologist hi there, dawn. We are expecting comfortable temperatures for the entire Holiday Weekend, but heres the bad news. Not completely dry but the g nd. A beautiful weather though down the shore right now folks kind of enjoying things if youre grilling for tomorrow, were talking about clouds on the increase by noon. 69 degrees. Low to mid 70s in the afternoon. But dodging some scattered showers. So heres the bottom line for the kick off forecast. Saturday a 30 chance for those afternoon shors 74 degrees. By sunday, low 70s. Reporter yeah little breezy out here but you can see over my shoulder you guys mentioned what good timing. The fireworks are going off. Now its a little bit calm out here. Not the hustle and bustle were used to during this time but everybody is who we talked to out here they could not wait to get started on the summer. It would have been nice to officially kick off summer with a swim if the ocean was a little warmer or less rough. But for diehard shore goers who flocked to Atlantic City for memorial day weekend, everything was still picture perfect. I am from louisville, kentucky we dont have a shore. So i love the shore, and i try to get up here as often as i c can. You have the boardwalk. You have the shops. You have the beach. Reporter shops are ready for a banner start to the summer season. Ten minutes later the pie is ready. People are cramped all winter long and ready to get down here and have some fun. Little windy but family is enjoying it. Have some neighbors from home and, you know, just having a good time looking forward to nice weekend. Reporter rain holding off on friday but that wind coming off the water meant sweatshirts and jackets for many. It also made for a perfect weather to fly sky high at wildwoods kite festival. Every year this is my favorite part, guys, of the start of the long weekend, of course, we are expecting many more people, many more crowds out here throughout the weekend starting tomorrow. The military times reports that a pentagon internal memo shows a mortuary employee at Dover Air Force base offered inspector as chance to look at glenns remains before he was buried. Military mortuary chief is denying allegations of improper behavior to the associated press. The chief acknowledged if they wanted to see the remains but it was purely in a professional sense and says glenns remains were treated quote with impeccable care. John glenn died back in december. The air force cared for his remains until he was buried in april. A philadelphia family in shock and spooked after vandals desecrated a loved ones final resting place. They say someone spray painted what theyre describing as as satanic or voodoo images by their mothers gravestone and they dont know. They dont have no respect for the dead, you know. Once a person die, its if peace. Whatever place they are, i dont know, but whatever god take them but please let them be in peace. Reporter iris roman mother was buried at Green Mount Cemetery 12 years ago. But this week, her family had a rude surprise at the gravesite. It was scary for me because i believe that symbol has to be something related with the devil. Reporter this make shift pentagram was spray painted just inches away from her mothers headstone. It scared us. We didnt know what to do. It made us feel more sad than anything. She was more of a christian woman. So to see some symbol thats very very close to voodooism. Reporter family members took pictures and contacted the cemetery management asking about security on the sacred grounds. They keep the gates open 24 hours. Its like no protection. The problem is this gate stays open 24 hours, seven days a week, anybody can come in any time of the night or day and do whatever they, are they going to do in here. It appears it was isolated act in green mount but nonetheless upsetting for the family. We just want everyone to come and check and see if anything anyone elses graves. Reporter we tried to contact the management here. They left at 3 30 today and they wont be back until tuesday after memorial day. Now the family says it was fortunate that they had all the rain this week. The rain washed away most of the spray paint and the grass was cut around the gravestone. Chris, dawn . Joanne, thanks. Police not exactly saying why he was arrested, only saying this investigation is moving fast. That man is one of nine people being held for questioning. Also, today, Ariana Grande announced shell return to manchester for a benefit concert to raise money for the victims and their families. Suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured dozens of others minutes after the singeroncert. Leaders at the g7 summit showed a united front pledge to go Work Together to fight terrorism. Man tries to pull off a robbery using a hypo derr mick needle it happened this morning on aramingo avenue at the wawa in port richmond. Police say the man pointed the needle at an employee and demanded money. After not getting anything he took off. Fortunately no one was hurt but if you know who this person is police want to hear from you. A terrifying start to the Holiday Weekend for dozens of people inside a coach bus traveling along the new jersey turnpike. The bus collided with a tractor trailer in gloucester county. And passengers were hurt sent to hospitals all around our area. Fox 29s Jennifer Joyce has the story. The bus just flipped. Out of nowhere everybody money, everything went up in the air. Reporter chaotic moments after new Jersey State Police say a coach bus packed with passengers hit by tractor trailer early this morning. The bus veered off the southbound lanes of the new jersey turnpike between exits two and three and flipped on to its side. People was panicking but, you know, we was able to get everybody calmed down and we got out of the bus. Everybody was screaming. I was stuck in the chair. The chair broken up once it flipped i went in it i sat in the third row. Reporter wanda davis manhattan showed these photos of the crash site she says the panda new york bus left Lower Manhattan around 10 00 oclock last night. It was headed to charlotte, North Carolina when the accident happened. Another passenger captured this video of the aftermath which shows dozens of people standing on the side of the road next to the toppled bus as emergency crews arrived to help. Im just in a state of shock. My back, my neck, everything. Reporter more than 30 people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. The bigger issue, confusion. Victims stranded at the hospital say they left their belongings on the bus and didnt know how now theyre saying like we have in way home period. They got our money and everything, and luggage still on the bus, credit cards everythi everything. They saying theyre not helping us leaving us in the middle of nowhere. Reporter victims huddled together out the hod wrapped in blankets feeling abandoned and frustrated. Rick jones of at at a told me even before the crash happened he had a bad feeling about the trip. I did notice he was swerving. I can feel the swerving, yes. Reporter he was swerving ahead of the crash . Yes. We had lot of incidents before the crash. Reporter jones says this isnt the first time hes a bad experience with the bus company but he keeps going back because the price. Reporter its cheap . Yeah, its cheap. You know what i mean, i guess you get what you pay for, you know. Reporter that man was headed home to atlanta. Other people say they were trying to get down south to visit family. Not a great start to the Holiday Weekend. Reporting from outside of cooper hospital, im jenn for joyce, fox 29 news. Fox 29 has reached out to that bus company for comment on the crash. So far we have not heard back. Just days after days died in north philadelphia house fire the Fire Department reminding people about the importance of smoke detectors. Firefighters and the red cross going door to door along the 5400 block of diamond street to install those alarms this morning. That is the same block where three victims house fire on sunday. Fire investigators say there were no smoke detectors in that home. No if you do not have a smoke alarm, you can call the citizens 311 hotline to have one installed for free. More than 300 new Police Cadets are ready to hit the streets of philadelphia. Graduation ceremony held this morning at temple university. 380 officers were a part of the graduating class mayor jim kenney addressed the graduates say hes grateful for their service. Public service in the form that youre going to perform it in is the highest level of good. The highest level of decency. You are putting yourselves out there for us and we truly truly appreciate it. This is the 2017 scripps National Spelling bee. And young lady from Delaware County is among the top performers ready to duke it out. Bruce gordon spoke with her about her amazing opportunity. Outside on this beautiful spring day, the birds were chirping. But inside 11yearold phoebe smiths aston home its all about the bees. More accurate the bee as in scripps National Spelling bee. Phoebes interest in the conquest was born three months at her middle school where shes a sixth grader. Our teacher told us we were going to have a class spelling bee. I got real excited. I know i did well in spelling tests and im a competitive person. Reporter she won the class contest. And then the School Spelling bee. And after that, the Delaware County competition. Mom a film maker and dad College Professor had no idea what they had gotten themselves into. Its been five, six hours a day, you know, melt downs every other day. Reporter this is intense. Its intense. She doesnt go out with her friends. Her friends call. Com out, hang out with us . She didnt want to. She wants to stay home and study. Repor dr like it. Sometimes it can get a little bit tedious i like languages and i like learning about the different rules for languages. Reporter on thursday her classmates lined the hallway to give phoebe a proper send off to the nationals. A lot of people are more concerned about sports and activities outside of school. But i think this is cool because other kids will learn about this and maybe be encouraged to it next year. Reporter t
