The construction on the schuylkill today. A problem, then all the sudden you come to a halt. Then wait, hold on, not supposed to be happening. Did you listen to the traffic guy . I didnt. Thats the problem. Were on the second day two of tennis in a. Right. I think that you are going to love today just as much as you loved yesterday. It might be a smidge more humid. But who cares . It was beautiful yesterday. We will love today. Weve got an offshore storm. Nothing bother us right now with precipitation, so lets talk temperature, now, it is a little milder than yesterday, just little bit. 69 degrees, 64 , with sunrise 6 08. I think the temperature will go down an agree or two before the sun comes up. Lets check some other regional temperatures, strasburg, 63 degrees, coatesville is 59. We have bear, delaware, at 65. Voorhees, new jersey, 60 degrees. Toms river, coming in at 57 to start. Weve got sunshine, another bright and Beautiful Day, did not even need to change the words on this graphic, because it is just as beautiful as yesterday. But things will change just in time for the weekend. And that forecast is coming right up. Glad you got here on time, bob kelly, what you got . Why dont you just take the rest of the morning off . Just re rerun from yesterday. Good idea. Good morning, can we mix it up a little bit. Lets get her working. 4 02, working on the schuylkill this morning, traffic moving again, i just got stuck in one of those brief ten minute stoppages that makes you think like oh, whats going on . You know, and my traffic guy, i had to call my personal traffic person here. But eastbound, down to one lane from 476, all the way into belmont avenue. There is no blockages, just theyre moving the construction around, be out there until about 5 00 this morning, so just be ready for that, here is construction everywhere, especially on the overnights. The vine expressway still closed here, between the schuylkill and broad until 5 00. Nice and quiet on the talcony palmyra bridge. No problems at all into or out of talcony or palmyra. They are also working out here along 422 again, this is westbound, between first avenue and trooper road. One lane is open. So again, be ready to hit the brakes as you roll through any of the construction zones. Same thing here in delco. I95 southbound, slow from 420 down to 476. And within the city limit here, sue got stuck in this this morning, paving callowhill, spring garden, girard, a lot of cross street, construction crews are out there. But mass transit off to a good start, karen, back over to you. Bob, thank you. We begin with this break news from bucks county. Crews finally are getting a handle on fire burning all night long at a scrap Metal Recycling yard. We have steve keeley there with the latest and whats happening. Steve, good morning. Well, karen, as you start a six hour anchor down at the desk i found crews are working longer than you straight without a break. This is seven hours plus and counting for the firefighters who got called out here in prime time. You know, you see all of these guys every day who drive around with these old beaten up pickup trucks collecting scrap metal. This is one of those companies that buys it from them. And we are in Lower Bucks County here in falls township, and there is the name of the company. This is an old u. S. Steel plant area here, it is now an industrial park, and you can see, smoke still billowing up in the lights there, and you can make out firefighters, were back from this. Chris will walk to the left now. Give you look how the smoke is going left. When we were on route one, we saw flames and smoke from miles away. So some of the drivers on the highways, bob kelly, will see this for sure. Because it is still lighting up the sky with all of the protection light. Now, chris will go to the left. Show you, follow this fire host, one of the problems they had, because this is such an isolated area, was getting water here, thats why these flames were shooting so high for so long on this big scrap pile which is everything, even shredded car board boxes and stuff there is company collects. So who knows what was burning, and thats why it is always good to stay far back, especially, when you dont know whats on fire for sure. Now, here is some video that we obtained overnight thanks to philly fire news. Com. Ryan, good video, you can see, he got fairly close and was shooting for over a half hour. And the longer he stayed, it seemed, the worst the fire got. And very visible, for miles around, since 9 00 last night, in prime time, were told. Then they called in whole lot of extra fire companies, a lot of volunteers, so theyve been here all night. We just got word, veronica manually, our excellent intern back there, just got official word they got this thing finally officially under control around 3 30. And to the right as we come back to a live picture in this booth, the first thing this guy yelled at us from the company we are not putting out any statement. Okay, thats fine. So the only statement so far is that theyre if the going to give us a statement. But as far as we know, no one got hurt by this. And well stay here all morning and see if this thing eventually gets completely out. But we just want to alert everybody in this is the area. You see this from miles around, karen. Thank you as always, steve, we appreciate it. 4 06. We know multiple people are recovering after being shot. It happened in bridgeton new jersey late last evening about 10 00 the 300 block of north pearl street. Several medivac choppers whether called out there to the scene. Were still trying to gather some more information about the victims conditions, as well as the possible shooter in this case. Well stay on top of it. Nearly five months after police found a mother and her little boy stabbed to death in burlington county, investigators are making a new plea. They want to figure how the did this. They dont know. They want people to come forward. If they know anything, have any suspicions, have any information about this case, those are our victims, 38 year old and her six year old son, found dead in their maple shade home back in march. Prosecutors have reached out to the Indian Cultural center of south jersey for help. We really need is information, if anybody saw something that, you know, on that night, and they have been reluctant to talk to law enforcement, we ned them to be comfort tonight talk to us. Investigators said at the time that her husband found the bodies in a bedroom after first not finding anybody when he came home that night. The Prosecutor Says his office has spoken with family member, but they still need some more information. And a police chase in northeast philadelphia last night of a man caring two automatic weapons, big ones, police say they found a ar15 and an uzi in the car after man who led them on a car chase from philadelphia into bensalem. Officials had responded to reports of gunshot few hours earlier at an industrial complex. When police got there, the guy tosses a gun into his truck, and drives off. Officers pursued that suspect, then he drives into a ditch. Thats where they catch up to him. Ran off the road right there. They took him into custody about an hour later. Definitely a concern, ar15, major focus right now, especially with all of the crazy lunatics out there shooting up people and stuff. So, yes, scary. Police are still investigating the gunshots at that complex, that started the whole thing. And there was really tense standoff with swat Team Negotiators in Delaware County ends with a sheriff deputy now in the hospital. Man allegedly through molotov cocktail at police and baricaded himself in a home in collingdale, police had to come thereto serve arrest warrant. Ultimately the suspect gave himself up, arrested on attempted murder charges, explosive hit a deputy returned to the hospital with burn wounds. He is in good spirits, for what he went through. His birthday is tomorrow. So this probably isnt what he was expect to go do the night before his birthday. Oh, my. What a birthday. Investigators later found more molotov cock tames in the suspects home. And it is a day in court for the Penn State Fraternity brothers accuse in the that deadly hazing ritual. Todays hearing is to determine whether 16 young men will stand trial in the death after student from new jersey, lets get right to jenny joyce with more. Good morning, karen, so today Defense Attorneys will be crossexamining the lead detective in this case, as part of day four of the preliminary hearing to determine, again, if this case will go to trial. Heres a look at footage from Previous Court appearance of penn state student charged in connection with the death of their classmate, timothy piazza. Piazza, a sophomore, engineering major from new jersey, was a pledge at Beta Theta Pi, and he died in february after a hazing ritual gone terribly wrong. All right, well stay on top of it, thank you, jenny, right to the latest with the situation on north korea north korea not scared of our president s respond of threats and fury, in fact they have threats of their own. Coming up next on good day, firefighters come to the rescue of an underground fire, but they ends up need to rescue themselves. Plus normally somebody who is commit ago crime goes the other way. Ya, no, he didnt go the other way, he went right to the police statio, then what does he do . He says you know what, im hammered. Bob kelly, thats an unusual one. Over to a check of the weather, no matter where you are in the delaware valley, it will be fab, sue. Yes, one more sunny day, High Pressure in control. Were still watching this system down to our south. Thats staying nearby and probably going to come back and visit us as a warmfront. But as we go through the rest of the day, High Pressure will get closer to the coast. And eventually, we will switch to southwesterly winds. Eventually, that means, the humidity will come back. But for most of the day today i think it will remain pretty comfortable so we dont have any rain to show you, even close to us, and nothing in our area. So we jump ahead to friday morning. We see that it is probably going to be cloudy when we get started on friday, which is by the way tomorrow, and then in the afternoon, weve got some rain rolling in. Probably in the overniht hours. It picks up in intensity. Heres saturday morning, with unfortunately a chance of some rain, maybe some thunderstorms popping up in the afternoon. Thats when the rain is most likely over the weekends, although we have a chance on sunday, as well, what can i do . 69 degrees in philadelphia, 53 mount pocono, 63 in wildwood, and 62 degrees in lancaster. Winds are calm everywhere. Lets check yesterdays high temperature, and compare to the average, 86 is the average, we got right there, and we will probably be around 85 today. So, another ten, we will gave you a eight for tomorrow. With increasing clouds, and i dont think well see too much rain, if we do, it is very late in the day. Chance of thunderstorms on saturday, and the humidity comes back even though it is cooler, and then it will be a little warmer on sunday, with some clouds around, another chance of showers on monday, and then, by the middle of next week, it is looking beautiful once again. Speaking of beautiful, you get some good music, you get your forecast, all on 101. 1 more fm. You said beautiful when i was coming in. Oh,. It is bb, beautiful bob. Good morning, everybody, were in rare form today. 4 17. No problems on the major roadways, a lot of construction out there, the turnpike, boulevard, 95, but lets zoom on in to that fire location, that steve was just talking about the scrap yard fire here along steel road in morrisville, right here, on basically what you could look almost like an island, tyburn road the only road to get in you there. But again, you are going to see that glow from south jersey, the bucks county side, even coming over the turnpike connector bridge, again, thats whats burning right here in morrisville, to kind of give you an idea almost like a Little Island there along steel road. So, i dont think it will impact traffic a lot this morning, other than the gaper delays, as we roll out of the driveway. Crews working on the schuylkill from conshy all the way into belmont. Only the left lane is open. So just be prepared for. That will theyve been out there until about 5 00 the last couple of days, then youll have one even nice smooth surface in the left lane, and the right lane will be a little rock i. Theyve been paving, seems like, every single street here, in the fairmount section, callowhill, spring garden, girard avenue, a lot of the cross streets, as well, theyre still out from last night. Theyll take a little bit after break. Then another crew will come back at about 7 00 this morning, in west philly, chestnut street. Get ready for the new traffic pattern in the bike lanes between 34th and 45th. So see some delays with construction crews out there today. And then, that water main break from monday, down here in south philadelphia, three lanes block on the southbound side of broad street. Just off of the broad street exit for the schuylkill. So, that could cause some delays for the gang headed to the phillies game later on tonight. Karen, back over to you. Thank you there, bob. This was very dangerous situation in west chester. The problem all started underground. But then quickly became an issue for all of the people that were above grounds, and in the neighborhood. Some really tense moments for firefighters, some who ended up needing rescuing themselves, as Shawnette Wilson report. It escalated very quickly. Fred lives nextdoor to a home 200 block of west gay street. Im evaculated the entire block i live on is evacuated. Turns out when west chester firefighters turned out to put it out quickly found out the fire actually started nearby on darlington street. Flew over the chaos, peco called in, and found a problem with a underground cable causing smell to spew from a manhole. Fire chief explains what happened. What happened, fire underground, in a transformer, electric wire, so they feed all of the homes. So it went down, you know, the conduit whatever went into the panel box of the basement of the house and caught the basement, the panel box on fire. The cleve says the combustion underground sent high levels of Carbon Monoxide through the area. It sickens five firefighters, one assistant fire chief, mark scanlan, who sent out a distress call. It was actually came out of the building, and collapsed. To update him he did not have a cardiac issue. He lost his consciousness just a little bit, currently being treated at the hospital for possible co. The other four firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Maria roughin was walking by, took pictures of a firefighter being examined. They started giving him oxygen and treated him. They wont let me walk by, but i work down the street, they said the fumes were too much. Peco cut off power to homes in the affected area while crews made repairs underground. It was re store late this evening. I was very shock, you know, this is usually quiet town. You know, nothing like this usually ever happens. Peco had to cut off power to some residents while repairs were being made. Power has since been restored. Resident evacuated have
