In the woods. We are live in woodridge where a vigil for Brendan Wilson just wrapped up. Hank . Reporter it was a pretty substantial turn out for this vigil at the site behind Woodridge High School and its a clear sign that people are really concerned about the violence in this neighborhood. Everybody up and down this street knows exactly what happened. For friends, family and neighbors sadness and anger and laughter as they talk about Brendan Wilson along with a cut when woodridge high and the oakwood drive neighborhood. Some parents say they would like to see this path only about 50yards long close down or cutoff or perhaps more Police Patrols around the times kids are getting out of school. They need to light this area 24 hours a day or close it down. Its, i mean, how many people have to get hurt before somings done . Neighbors say trouble has been building along this path for years. Close off this path because i think its well known that what goes on back here. Police were here tonight but were told they arent a common sight near the cut High Schoolers are coming here and passing the drugs back and forth and i had no idea. I live just a couple houses up. You really surprised by this happening in your neighborhood . Yes, absolutely. It totally shocked me. Three people are under arrest for Brendan Wilsons murder which police say was drug related and an assumption brendans mother says is not true. Just because they were drug dealers does not mean this was a drug related crime. I will not have my sons name go out like that. Again there is a great deal of concern about what goes on on that path and the police were there tonight but weve been told they arent there too often. In woodridge, wusa9. Com. Republican leaders and congress are speaking out about that u. S. China deal to cut Greenhouse Gas emissions. President obama says the agreement calls for both countries to move quickly to cut Greenhouse Gas emissions but Senate Minority leader mitch mccon el says it requires china to do nothing until the year 2030 and House Speaker john boehner says it will hurt the coal industry and eliminate jobs those who track the climate changes seem to think that china is behind a recent hack on the u. S. Weather system. The National AtmosphericAdministration Says four websites including the National Weather service were recently the target of an Internet Source hack. The attack took place in september and there was no indication of a problem until almost a month later. Russia announced it will once again send long rangebombers on flight patrols near u. S. Territory, waters including the gulf of mexico. Nuclear capable bomb turpitudes flew those routes during the cold war but cut back near the soviet union so the pentagon is down playing plans calling them routine training in International Air space. There are new reports president obama may be reconsidering the u. S. Strategy towards syria. Tonight we speak with someone very familiar with the situation in that war torn nation, the former u. S. Ambassador to syria. Reporter as you know, syria is a mess. A civil war with no end in sight. A dictator refusing to relink wish power. Isis gaining ground and making threats not to mention thousands of syrians dead and more than 3 million displaced. The former u. S. Ambassador not far removed from dealing with this mess talks to me about americas role in cleaning it up. Is syria. Its a terribly difficult situation. Robert ford would know having served as u. S. Ambassador from 2010 until he resigned in february. Shortly after ford said, as the situation in syria deteriorated i found it even harder to justify our policy. It was time for me to leave. President barack obama has had no shortage of critics to his syria policy which is focused more on degrading isis. Not so much from within syria but within iraq as the Terrorists Group occupies ungoverned land on the border of the two neighboring countries. The president said our goal is to degrade and defeat isis. I dont see right now a strategy that would achieve the goal of the president says. The three year long civil war produced a virtual stalemate between dictator, the moderate opposition and now isis. I cant imagine that either side is going to be able to conquer the other any time soon. Ford admits while a political solution is necessary there will have to be military practices. Just not american troops. We do need to help the Syrian Opposition and provide them the material assistance so that they can be the boots on the ground against Islamic State but at the same time so theyre able to put political pressure on the regime. In this mix of moderates and loyalistses, how do we know whose who . How do we choose . Well we have experience now dating back to 2012 working with moderates that are fighting on the ground. People who say we dont know them are simply uninformed. But one thing that does seem to be clear . This is going to be a long term campaign. They arent quick fixes involved. Were still at the early stages as with any military effort there will be days of progress and there are going to be periods of setback. Is this something americans need to get used to . You know, first and foremost is a problem of countries in the region, turkey, jordan, lebanon, iraq, saudi arabia, but they all look to the United States for leadership. That leadership ford went on to say has to come from americas leaders beginning with the president , he says. The secretary of defense and the secretary of state, ford says they all have to articulate a political solution and a vision for how to roll back isis as well as rallying international support. Jan . Thank you. The Keystone Pipeline can be pushed through both houses of congress during the lame duck session all because democratic senator mary landrew is pace a tough Runoff Election next month. Tonight a stunning cbs investigation that found rape victims being charged basically for the crime against them. Thats the case in more than a dozen states and tonight reporter Chris Van Cleve shows its happening right here in our area. I woke up the next morning naked. Reporter late last year christine was sexually assaulted and went to a suburban chicago hospital for a rape kit, a medical exam that checks for injuries and collects evidence of the crime. The next day she felt victimized all over again. I got my first bill. You kept getting bills . Correct. Lots of them and for thousands of dollars. Federal law says the victims should not pay for rape kits but there can be additional medical charges like hiv tests or er fee which is play not be covered. In some states that means victims could be stuck with the bill. When you keep getting revictimized once a month, you get a reminder in the mail that you were raped, this happened, its hard to move on. Chicagos rape victim advocates helped christine but it took almost ten months for the bills to stop. We have a full time staff person and the bulk of their cases are resolving medical bills. Our cbs news investigation found 13 states including illinois where advocateds say some rape survivors are getting billed for medical services. There have been at least two attempts to change federal law to expand coverage beyond rape kits. Both failed to pass congress. Maryland hospitals are not supposed to bill for medical costs related to a forensic exam but the state coalition against Sexual Assault says theres confusion about what costs are covered for example, some survivors have been billed for an ambulance ride, testing or followup care. A state panel studying the issue is set to have its first meeting this week. Advocates in virginia and the district did not report a pattern of billing issues. Wusa 9. One man picked a rather unique way to tell his ex there are plenty of other chicks out there by mailing a box of 15 baby chicks to her d. C. Home. The ex told the mailman she was going to throw them in the trash so mailman instead took them to the washington humane society. Nine of the chicks are now at the maryland sanctuary. They survived their trip in the Postal Service and might have saved their life. By the way its completely legal to mail baby chicks. Legal to mail them but apparently not legal to own them in d. C. Or have them as pets. But this is first we heard shes going to throw them away. I heard that before. Perhaps it was the reason that he left her or there was a problem.
