Reporter but you got a lot of no, i didnt. Reporter but you got a lot of water. Yes. I stock up for tennis. A victory today for same sex couples who want to get married in virginia, a federal Appeals Court refused to delay its ruling that struck down the ban on gay marriages in the old dominion. That ruling requires virginia to start recognizing same sex marriages from out of state. Now gay couples will be able to legally tie the knot in the opened dominion as early as next wednesday. Opponents say theyll go to the Supreme Court to appeal the decision. They had piled up more than 90,000 in Credit Card Debt. In court today we learned just how big those financial problems were for former Virginia Governor Bob Mcdonnell and his wife maureen. Peggy fox has been in the court where those numbers were just g . Ealed. Reporter oh, yes, it was bad. The defense has claimed that the mcdonnells were not awash in debt. Moments ago an fbi agent blew a huge hole in that claim. He analyzed the mcdonnells seven cards and said in january of 2010 they had a Credit Card Debt total of 75,000. That ballooned to 91,000 by september of 2010. Then in april of 2011 it dropped to 30,000. Thats the same month Maureen Mcdonnell met Jonnie Williams. The testimony, you all heard it and now its for the jury to make those decisions. Reporter Virginia Beach mayor and townebank president William Sessoms answered questions about a loan application that Bob Mcdonnell filled out that left out a 50,000 loan that Prince William county made to his wife. To tell it all out loan that Jonnie Williams made to his wife. To tell it all, get it out there. Reporter the mcdonnells applied for two refinancing loans to cover the losses. Concerning another 50,000 Jonnie Williams loan, this one to mobo, sessoms testified because its a corporate entity and does not have a personal guarantee from Bob Mcdonnell he did not need to disclose it. In redirect the prosecution asked sessoms have you ever done a handshake deal with a corporation to which sessoms answers no. All loans had to be disclosed and werent and the defense position is there were various reasons why loans werent disclosed, either because they didnt need to be, because they were loans to a corporate entity not before the bank or because the loan application that weve seen in evidence and testimony today were preliminary and not the final loan application that was ultimately approved. Reporter other Bank Representatives were called by the prosecution, nan bolt from Penfed Credit Union testifying about another refinance application in which Bob Mcdonnell added the 120,000 in loans they received from Jonnie Williams only after his wife was questioned by state police. Now the prosecution says it will rest its case tomorrow. Prosecution rests tomorrow and then friday is a motions day, looks like the jury has friday off and the defense begins on monday. Were not sure when Bob Mcdonnell will testify, but that testimony will be critical. Peggy fox, wusa9. Joining us now with more insight on the mcdonnells corruption trial is matt kaiser, a d. C. White collar criminal defense attorney and Founding Partner at the kaiser law firm. You just heard peggys report today and today was really about the two ls, lies and loans. It was. When i think the big thing to take away from todays testimony is the part that looks worst for the governor is where he didnt report the loan and then after his wife was investigated and talked to the investigators he went back and did report the loan. The defense has a decent story there, that he wasnt obligated to report these but that hes changing his story, changing his mind after his wife learns about the investigation. That strikes me as a really bad fact for the governor. It casts more suspicion on intention, doesnt it . It does. This case is really about whether there was an agreement between the governor and Jonnie Williams to do things that are official acts. There are two parts to that and what that goes to, if theres an agreement to do official acts in exchange for money, rolexs and ferraris, youll want to cover that up. This is really a question about the coverup. Theres an fbi agent on the stand detailing some details about the case, the scope of the investigation, more about these 90,000 in loans. You say this person is crucial because they give sort of the prosecution an opportunity to have a last word before their last word. Thats right. Whats going on now is theres an fbi agent who is the case agent. Hell testify the rest of today and probably much of tomorrow. Hell summarize all the governments evidence for the jury. What happens after this, the defense will put on a case. It will be a couple weeks where the jury isnt hearing anything for the government. Right before the defense starts talking they want their strongest best case to go to the jury so theyve got something to remember. Well see what happens next week. Thanks for coming in.
