Recently police said. Now one suspect is in custody after being arrested nearby in beltsville, but investigators fear the second suspect has fled the area and may be long gone. Again yanes has given a confession in this case and according to his story, there is no apparent gang motive in this. It was simply an argument between roommates that turned horribly violent and gruesome in. Laurel scott broom, wusa9. Right now police are on the hunt for a man who sexually assaulted a woman. Prince William County police say it happened last night around 10 00 near lee highway and the Gainesville Square shopping center. The victim tells police some man pushed her down an embankment and attacked her. She fought that attacker several minutes and was able to climb out of the embankment and scream for help. Thats when the man took off running in the woods and heres what police say they are doing to bring this suspect to justice. We have detectives going around handing out crime solvers flyers and talking to residents and businesses and people in the area to try to get some leads. The victim says her attacker was a male about, 5 6, muscular, thin build, crew cut, dark hair, clean shaven and please call prince William County police if you know anything about this case. Closing arguments are set to start friday morning in the corruption trial of former Virginia Governor Bob Mcdonnell and his wife and today we learned mcdonnell forgives the prosecutions star witness Jonnie Williams. Peggy fox has been in trial in richmond. You spoke to the governor today. Reporter yes. We asked him questions every day. Today i asked him two questions he answered in ways we have not seen before. The exchange happened just after the final witness testified in day 24 of this corruption trial. The government has rested. How do you fare you think . Im glad theyre resting. Reporter on his final day of testimony former governor Bob Mcdonnell was surrounded by his children. My son got back from duke last night. My other son is anderbilt. Reporter mcdonnell said he accepted many of the gifts from Jonnie Williams such as golf outings and vacations to spend more time with his family. He testified that he didnt know about other gifts to maureen and could not have conspired with her because the two were barely communicating. The final witness was fbi agent Katherine Weber who analyzed the couples time together and found in the 22 months covered in the charges mr. And mrs. Mcdonnell spent 90 of their nights together, but the defense poked some homes in her testimony. Homes in holes in her testimony. That argument was drawn to the fact they didnt take it to scale. Reporter political analysts say it will come down to who the jury believes. Williams certainly initiated her a bargain. The question i think that will be in the jurors minds and will be interesting to see how the judge instructs them is did Bob Mcdonnell commit any official acts on behalf or you might say to complete his part of the bargain that Jonnie Williams thought he was initiating. Reporter mcdonnell testified that he thought Jonnie Williams was a friend but misjudged him. After this whole ordeal are you less trusting of people . No. No. I mean all human beings are fallible. Thats what the good book says and im one of them. Reporter do you forgive Jonnie Williams . Sure. Thank you. Reporter after testimony concluded today the jury had the rest of the day off. Right now all sides are arguing jury instructions and there is a very strong debate going on about the term official acts. The prosecution wants to say an official act is irrelevant, that we dont really have to show Bob Mcdonnell did anything official. However, the defense wants to say it has to be a specific official act. Well wait and see what the judge finally decides. Everyone is back tomorrow morning for closing arguments. It is Bob Mcdonnells daughters calins 30th birthday today. We want to bring in white collar criminal defense attorney ted kang. He used to work with the Public Integrity section which is one of the sections currently prosecuting Bob Mcdonnell. I want to ask you about this fbi agent who testified they spent 85 of their nights together at the mansion or on a trip. What does that matter . Why is the prosecution falling into the trap of the defenses narrative at this point . The prosecution brought on this witness to try to knock down the defenses claim that the marriage was broken and the mcdonnells could not have conspired with each permit they put on evidence that during the course of the with each other. They put on evidence that during the course of the period of time they spent 85 of the nights together. At the end of the day, im not sure this was particularly compelling. All the charts and graphs this agent presented speaks nothing about during those 444 nights whether bob and maureen shared 444 nights whether bob and maureen shared a same room or even talked together. You can run a business and still not conspire, right . Thats absolutely right. I think that might have been a better way to go to take it out and say you know what . Were not even going there in terms of playing on your field. Broken marriage or not, there was still a conspiracy. Walk us through tomorrow. We know closing arguments will begin and the jury will deliberate on this 14 count indictment. How important are the jurys instructions . Thats what theyre doing now spending the better portion of this afternoon negotiating meeting with the judge in terms of exactly what the instructions to the jury will be. Its not very sexy, but its extremely important. Keep in mind that one of the key disagreements in this case is whether or not the governor took any official act to benefit star scientific. The prosecution is saying yes, he did. He set up meetings and attended events at the governors mansion. The defense is saying no, that interpretation is an overreach and for it to be an official act the governor needs to actually g a contract or job or other concrete benefit to Jonnie Williams and star scientific. So at the end of the day the question is whether or not the governor crossed the line into criminal conduct, but where is the line . Its the capriciousness of the judge at this point. Its what the judge decides to give to the jury for instructions . It needs to still be based on Legal Standard and law because if the judge issues jury instructions that are arbitrary and capricious, he could get overturned on appeal. So there still needs to be a basis and the instructions need to be grounded in well settled law. Thanks for coming in. Police arrested 145 people out in front of the white house today after an immigration protest. According to casa de maryland the activists were calling on president obama to enact legislation that will help undocumented immigrants. The demonstrators were arrested for civil disobedience. Joan rivers is reportedly in the hospital in critical condition. Sources say the 81yearold comedian was rushed to mount sinai in new york this morning after she stopped breathing. Hospital Officials Say she was unconscious and unresponsive and enews reports rivers daughter melissa rushed to new york to be with her mother. Will a new stadium be enough to bring the super bowl to wash . Redskins owner dan snyder tells come washington . Redskins owner dan snyder tells Comcast Sports the redskins have started the process of exploring a new home for the team and doesnt know if that new home will be in d. C. , virginia or maryland. The redskins have been playing at fedex field in landover, maryland, since 1997. Wusa9 sport anchor dave owens joins us now. What are former players saying . Strong comments from these guys. We talked to several today. Around here comparing rfk to fedex field is sort of like comparing the prom queen to quasi moto. You get me . When you think prom queen, you smile, shes beautiful. We wanted to find out how former players feel. We hooked up darrell grant, remember him . Famous for this play in the 1982 nfc championship, this high stepping pick against dallas leading to a super bowl berth. We caught up with grant today echoing what many have already said, comparing the old bowl in southeast and fedex field, well, its night and day. That would be fantastic. I havent talked to one person yet that likes fedex field. Everybody is always reminiscing about rfk and the feeling and the memories obviously that came through that stadium. So i think it would be great if they built another stadium. Im sure he wants to get a bid in on a super bowl at one point and where that stadium is now i dont think hes going to have a chance. The lease to own that stadium at fedex field runs out in 2027, so were still a ways away, but certainly trying to get a super bowl bid is part of this no doubt. Well hear from lawmakers in d. C. About this potential new stadium. The nfl announced its going to get tough on players and Domestic Violence before i let you go. This is something they had to do. Theyve been catching a lot of flack on that. Commissioner Roger Goodell responding to heavy criticism after his two game suspension of ray rice for domestic assault. From this day forward any conduct that violates the personal conduct policy regarding assault, battery, Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault involving physical force will be subject to a six game suspension. A second offense results in a lifetime ban, the commissioner referencing that ray rice case saying, i did not get it right. We have heard the criticism of that the last couple weeks and i think the commissioner manning up today saying he did not get this thing right. If he didnt think he got it right, a whole lot of people would agree with him at least at this point to say the penalty needs to be harsher for this kind of crime. We reached out to the ravens as well. Again ray rice only a twogame suspension. They said, we respect what the commissioner said today and what he will rule on in the future, but certainly theyre glad ray rice only got the two game suspension. Thanks so much. Im first alert meteorologist erica grow. Boy, it was just a Beautiful Day in the d. C. Metro area. We had all that sunshine, low humidity and comfortable temperatures. We get a repeat performance tomorrow. Right now its 86 degrees, dew point 57. When the dew point is in the 50s and the low relative humidity at 37 , its nice to be outside. Wind out of the north at 10 Miles Per Hour helped to pull in the cooler drier air behind last nights cold front. Well continue to enjoy that overnight with clear skies dominating. It will be a great night to open up the windows and let in that fresh air and give the ac a rest. Beautiful again friday and as we head into the Holiday Weekend, thats when well see the heat and humidity return. The threat for thunderstorms should hold off till sunday for most of us, but there is the chance for a storm on saturday. Youll see that in a minute on 9 futurecast, but the most likely timing for the storms will be both sunday and monday. Sorry about that. 84 degrees now in manassas, 82 in frederick, 83 at bwi, 82 at andrews. On satellite and radar you can see how clear it is, most of us looking at beautiful sunshine, just a few sprinkles in southern virginia. On 9 futurecast it is because of that area of High Pressure bringing us the drier air, north winds around that starting to become more easterly and south easterly as we head into the day friday. Were also tracking an approaching frontal system that will bring us the next chance for showers and thunderstorm. Saturday we start out dry, though a few more clouds drift in overnight and then that potential for a few showers erupting, maybe even some thunderstorms west of the blue ridge. 5 p. M. You can see the thunderstorm activity up toward cumberland and hagerstown potentially as you head into saturday afternoon, but sunday well start out dry again. The heat and humidity in place, thats for sure. That approaching cold front will bring us the potential for showers and thunderstorms throughout the entire metro area, but now how its scattered in nature. So were not looking at a washout or an all day rain event. As of now sunday is still a green alert day. You dont have to cancel plans. Clear and comfortable, beautiful tonight with lows between 56 and 65. Tomorrow morning looks great, too, temperatures in th
