Both curb side lanes and four feet of the adjoining sidewalks across the bridge are close. Crews will fix corrosion problems on the bridges support beams and these closures will be in place until that work is done. Theres also a new ten ton load restriction which eliminates most bus traffic indefinitely. These repairs come after an inspection revealed load bearing support beams that no longer meet standards. Significant deterioration was also found on the concrete deck of the 83yearold bridge. And as you can see traffic is pretty light right now. But its expected to pick up throughout the morning. And more repairs will be on the way coming in july. Thats when crews will add new support beams, smooth out the roadway surface, and strengthen those sidewalks. Those repars were originally scheduled for september, but again, they have since been moved up to july. Reporting live, vanessa herring, wusa9 news.
