Six officers have been suspended, and the mayor is demanding more transparency from a Police Department under growing scrutiny. Chip reid is covering the investigation. Reporter Baltimore Deputy Police Commissioner kevin davis confirmed today that freddie gray, who was taken into custody after fleeing from police, had already been injured before he was carried to the police van. And quite frankly, thats exactly where freddie gray should have received medical attention, and he did not. Reporter he may have been further injured during a circuitous 30minute ride to the Police Station. Police commissioner Anthony Batts we know he was not buckled in the transportation wagon as he should have been no skewses for that period. We know our Police Employees failed to get him medical attention in a timely manner multiple times. Reporter the commissioner says his injury may also have been aggravated at three stops along the way including the first one where gray was taken out of the van and placed in leg irons, or it could have been happened at the third stop. Mr. Gray is talking there they pick him up off the floor and place him on the seat at that time. He says he needs a medic, i think is the terminology. Reporter his request was denied. By the time he reached the Police Station he was no longer breathing. Officers called an ambulance. Batts said they cant reveal everything theyve learned. What you see us tap dancing on and balancing here, is if somebody harmed freddie gray were going to have to prosecute them so giving out too much information on the front to you now may jeopardize that prosecution. Now the federal government is joining the investigation of the a tulsa oklahoma, reserve deputy who accidentally shot and killed an unarmed man. 73yearold robert bates who has connects in high places, is now facing manslaughter charges. Omar villafranca has the new developments. Reporter cbs news has learned the f. B. I. Has interviewed several current Sheriffs Offices employees about bates as part of a preliminary investigation into possible public corruption in the tulsa county Sheriffs Office. On april 2 bate was part of the gun sting which ended ended with him shooting 44yearold eric harris. Bats says he thought he was using his taser. Since then, questions have been raised about his qualifications. The Sheriffs Office has insisted bate was well trained, but an internal review by the Sheriffs Office in 2009 concluded bates received special treatment, that supervisor pressured training officers to give bates credit for training he never received. The report said when other deputies voiced concern, bates told them go see the sheriff if anyone had an issue. Insure Stanley Glanz has been friend with bates for more than 25 years. Bates even served as chairman of glanz Reelection Campaign in 2012 and was his number one campaign donor. Late this afternoon, the tulsa County District attorney, stephen kunzweiler, issued a statement saying i am highly concerned about recent allegations that have surfaced, and i have been in contact with independent Law Enforcement agencies regarding further investigation into these matters. We just received this statement from the tulsa county Sheriffs Office. Scott, it says, we intend to fully cooperate with any legal investigation. The primary threats with these storms on deck mostly hail wind but we cannot rule out tornadoes and maybe targeting some of our Southern States known as dixie alley. I got you i got you reporter this is just the first week of a 62 day course designed to replicate the constant stress lack of food, and sleep deprivation of combat. Less than half the men can be expected to make it all the way through. No one knows how the women will do.
