After fielding several complaints for more than a year over services provided by the company the county hired to handle building code issues, commissioners started looking at options. About 19 years ago, the county hired South Central Michigan Construction Code Inspections of Athens when the decision was made to privatize building code inspections due to the expense to the county to operate that department. County Controller-Administrator Clayette Zechmeister presented a rough draft of the RFP at the last county meeting. She asked for guidance from the commissioners on what they thought it should include.
